"Your refund did not go through because we could not verify your payment option. Please change your"
eBay won't let me refund the buyer!
I cancelled the order which was agreed with the buyer. I had already purchased the label, so I voided that first.
and on the refund page, it won't process the payment. And, it is not a bank or my error - IT IS EBAY BUG. I have tried 3 cards over 2 banks and even the bank account that eBay uses to pay me and it just won't do it. And, when I call eBay, a stupid bot tells me "there is nobody to help" - so what do I do?
"Your refund did not go through because we could not verify your payment option. Please change your payment option and try again."
It just won't let me add a card!!
Is there any solution from this?!

OP1 year ago4 days have passed.
eBay did not do anything about this problem, nobody has followed up and I am still unable to refund the buyer.
I am left in limbo.

It's a long shot but...
Try logging out of eBay.
Clearing your cache'
Logging back in and trying to add a new card.
OR
Have you tried doing the refund from another device?
Like from your phone?
If you don't have the APP download that and try from there..
If you do use the APP, try the phones browser or a computer.

·1 year agoContact your bank and see if they have Ebay blocked.
Every time I get a new debit card, I have to call and have a couple sites unblocked.
I can make a purchase just fine, but if they go to verify the card, it fails.
The regular clerks at the counter probably won't be able to help, you need to talk to someone in the safety department.
Last time when I was talking to them, they said a lot of banks have Ebay on the block list when it comes to verifying a debit card.

OP1 year agoI just spoke to an agent over the phone at eBay.
After many different attempts, we came to a conclusion that this is a technical issue at eBay and that they will resolve this within 24 hours.
Hopefully, they fix this.

·1 year agoDebit card has the same routing number as your bank checking account.
Yes, your debit card has a routing number...
Not credit cards.
Refund comes from 'available funds'...and can be negative for 3 days before eBay takes it from your checking account(debit card) if there is not enough in available funds.

·1 year agoI’ve had that happen more than a few times on this disjointed website. You have to add your debit card info into the refund back up payment method despite them already having the direct access to that same bank account through direct deposit. This place is nuts.

OP1 year agoActually, it says "Please check the use for your debit card and try again."

·1 year agoGo to the bottom left of this page https://www.ebay.com/sh/fin/summary
Do you see a preferred method for selling costs? If not, set one there.
apts69
OP1 year agoMy bank account is set as preferred - but that won't go through on the refund page.
I can't select any of my cards either as preferred.
When I try to select my cards it says: "Please ensure that the billing address you entered matches the address on the card." - while the address is **bleep** correct. Same address I used to add the card as a checkout card.

·1 year agoWhat about name? Middle initial? Street vs St? 5 digit zip or 5 digit + 4 zip? Check all those details.

·1 year agoNobody from eBay monitors the community. FYI, it takes about 2 weeks to receive a refund from a voided label, not a couple of days.

OP1 year agoPROBLEM
at https://ppcapp.ebay.com/myppc/wallet/list, I can add the same card for checkout, but not for selling costs, with identical billing address! This is to show that this is a BUG with eBay!
Is anyone from eBay even monitoring this community?

Nope.

·1 year agoSounds like you're missing a step.
Did you:
1. Go to the new card or your bank, click 'manage' and make that the option preferred for selling costs?
2. Go to the expired card and delete it?
You can also go to the bottom left of this page to manage the process: https://www.ebay.com/sh/fin/summary
But I think you still have to go to the wallet page to delete the expired card.

OP1 year agoWhen I press 'manage' and try to switch on 'Preferred for selling costs', it starts loading, and nothing happens. It never turns blue.
Expired card is deleted.

@apts69
Generally speaking when you "cancel" an order, it initiates a refund to the buyer from your proceeds. .. Did you try and refund AGAIN anyway in addition to the cancellation process?
If you are a "returning" seller your incoming funds may be "on hold". Held funds under these circumstances cannot be used to refund manually, or automatically even if they are from the same sale you wish to cancel.
Are you under the "held funds" mandate? and thus have to fund the "cancellation" from your bank account or credit card?
Was there a notice to you that the sale was cancelled?

·1 year agoYou can see in the screenshot the refund is mostly coming from their available funds with only a small portion coming from their backup payment method. They probably didn't have enough available funds because they had already purchased the shipping label. @ittybitnot
The problem is the expired card. Once they change their default to a non-expired card and delete the expired card there shouldn't be any problem.

OP1 year agoI bought the shipping label, so I have to pay for the shipping label in the refund process, as it is in my screenshot.
I have now voided the label, but that's another thing - it will be refunded directly to me in a few days.

·1 year agoAre you adding the card on the refund page (in your screenshot where there's a change link) or are you adding the card on this page under selling costs at the bottom https://www.ebay.com/sh/fin or are you adding the card on this page https://ppcapp.ebay.com/myppc/wallet/list

Random thought... have you already tried using the Debit card attached to your Payout account?
apts69
OP1 year agoUnder Seller Costs, I have a bank account and two cards added - one expired, one good.
When I check for options on the refund page, only the bank account and the expired card come up.
If I try to add more cards under the refund page, it's not letting me add any card - and I repeat, billing address is correct and I am doing it with 2 different bank cards and they both fail. The bank account that's added and working also fails! This is nuts!
EBAY **bleep**?
