Your most obsessive customer
I once had a customer from Europe who wanted to buy a book I had for sale. He had purchased a few books from me in the past, always a very quick and easy transaction.
The book in question was about 50 years old, one edition only and had never been reprinted. It was extremely desirable and expensive.
The book itself was immaculate, no wear, in fine condition.
But the dust jacket had some problems.
This fellow wrote me to tell me how excited he was to have found a copy of this book.
But he could not get over the fact that the dust jacket had some imperfections.
Over the course of about 7 months, he wrote me at least two dozen times asking about the DJ. Was I sure that I had taken the a photo of the right DJ? Could I take a few photos of the DJ from various angles? Was I sure that the lighting was adequate when I took the photo?
(Normally I'd have blocked someone who'd obsessed like this, but he was a good customer so I indulged him.)
Eventually he purchased the book.
Then, about a year later, I got a message from him out of the blue.
He asked me if the small tear on the DJ was on the front cover, or on the reverse cover?
I wrote him back and said I did not know; "don't you have the book now?" I asked.
He said he did but that he was on vacation and did not have it with him.

·2 years agoI had a guy in Australia message me the maximum number of characters in an eBay message every 20 minutes to tell me his life's story.
After this went on all morning I messaged him back to tell him to stop, I don't have time to read these.
He did stop, then left a similarly long winded feedback when he got his medallion.
Not quite obsessive the same way others describe in this thread, but for that one day, he seemed to be obsessed with writing to me.

Almost daily, I expect to hear from Ebay about something I will find to be unimportant.

·2 years agoAt least your customer is asking about a specific product. I had one that sent at least 50 messages in a 24-hour period. He was critiquing our listings, products (like gold over sterling), then went on to harass me and my staff that I had at the time. It got to the point where he was asking what I/we were wearing, if I was nice to work with, if I was in a relationship. What I looked like. Really weird stuff. Ebay stepped in but it was after he purchased something under new name and left revenge feedback. They removed it and blocked everything from his IP address and banned him. At least your pen pal is cordial!

I have a concert ticket stub listing that has been listed for a few years. It is listed for $7 with no 'make offer' option. The same buyer has been messaging me every month for almost two years offering me between $5 and $6. I politely reply each time saying I appreciate his interest but it is my policy not to accept offers on items.

·2 years agoYears ago, When I closed my B & M store I had a quantity of NIB
Porcelain dolls from a company called Ashton-Drake.
When I listed these on ebay I was first starting out selling here. Any doll with
its eyes closed that I listed, I had a woman busting my chops to remove it. She started harassing
me and any other seller offering a baby doll with its eyes closed.
She had lost a baby and they all reminded her of her loss. This went on
until ebay removed her. She probably messaged me 30-40 times over
a two month period.
