Your listing was removed: Product safety policy
I am a US based seller. I received this message today from ebay and they removed my listing for a vintage financial calculator. The removal was due to an Australian product safety update that was done today, that said those calculators didn't ship with a warning label about the button cell batteries.
What I don't understand is my listing has been removed without a trace. I can't find a reference to it anywhere on ebay or in MyEbay but there are still many listings from other people with that same calculator. Also if the product recall is in Australia, why not just give a notice that the listing has to be modified where it is not available to be sold to someone in Australia? If one country can dictate product safety for everywhere what's stopping a tiny country from issuing product safety notices on just about everything? Would that mean all of those items would have to come down off of ebay? This situation and how it is handled just doesn't make sense to me.

·1 year agoHappened to me today as well. I don't sell item internationally and haven't for over 10 years. I did an appeal however it was denied.
There are many items that are banned in the EU however can be sold in the USA. Little Debbie Oatmeal Creme pies is an example. There are many listings for items like this that are banned in the EU but are allowed. This does not make sense.
The product safety issue is from Australia NOT the USA.

Officeworks an Australian retailer was selling it with out warning customers the calculator had a battery

·2 years agoMy listing was just removed because a product similar to mine was banned in Europe 11 years ago. Not the same product and I was only selling it in the USA. Top that!

Probably because too many sellers were simply relist items that were taken down without correcting them.

Either eBay has not gotten to them yet, or they are not offering shipping to Australia. And eBay policy enforcement has never been 100% accurate, 100% complete, or 100% timely.
Also if the product recall is in Australia, why not just give a notice that the listing has to be modified where it is not available to be sold to someone in Australia?
Because if you ignore the notice, the item is still available for sale to Australia.

Once country cannot dictate safety notices for other countries. Australia issued a safety notice for Australia, not for anywhere else. You completely misunderstand how this works.

They don't have to come off eBay. They simply cannot offer shipping to the countries than ban them. This has been going on for decades now - you fundamentally misunderstand the issue.
This situation and how it is handled just doesn't make sense to me.
It makes perfect sense to me.

OP3 years agoI understand most the points you are making there but the difference is why doesn't ebay take the item down and then have you correct any rectifiable problems before it can be relisted just like if you are newly listing an item but forget a required field? This is the main problem.
With the current method, the detailed description that was written and pictures are gone and you would still have to relist it and make sure you fixed any offending problems. Oh well.

·3 years agoWas international shipping a shipping option for that item? I would contact eBay to learn more and appeal their decision. They do get things wrong sometimes.
