Your account was found to be linked by to another account
I got an email from eBay stating my account is linked by similar contact information, and/or financial information and/or account behavior to another account. I have no idea what they are talking about and I have no such other accounts or any business with any other accounts, and I am completely confused.
Whenever I contact Ebay, I am given these evasive and elusive responses. I have no way of proving that I have nothing to do with that other account because I am not given any information about it, other than a username. I feel completely powerless, because I am accused of something I have no knowledge of, and I am unable to prove. Has anyone else had this situation resolved?
Not sure what steps to take

They will not tell you exactly how they link accounts, because that would give away information about how to avoid detection. It could be that someone else is using your contact information, and/or financial information.
In s there anyone else in your household selling on eBay?

·2 years agoHow are you approaching ebay about this? Trying to find more info about the account?
If you do not know, have them close that account if they claim its yours. you have no idea and you do not want to know more about this account as your identity could been compromise.

·2 years ago@adlibra1I have seen posts from people whose accounts were limited or deleted because they shared an IP address, email account, or physical address of someone who had an ebay account that was in violation of ebay rules. For example, some parents were shocked like you are. It turned out their son had been selling stolen or counterfeit items years before. The son had moved out and the parents had no idea that he had even been doing that. The IP and physical address were both flagged. Ebay refused to let them sell and wouldn't make an exception, even though they hadn't done anything wrong. So if you've had family or roommates and any of them had an issue, ebay may be tying you to their buying or selling behavior. Can you post the username? Or do a search on it? It might tie back to someone you know.

OP2 years agoThanks so much for responding.
I have no idea who it could have been, but people in my household may have had access to my ip address or wifi.

·2 years ago@adlibra1Maybe you had a shared bank account with someone? I searched that username on ebay and google, and came up with nothing. You could reach out on social media and ask an ebay employee to review your case. Maybe they could shed some light on what the problem is so you can address it. It's weird that ebay gives a username that is not active now and show no sales under the Advanced search option. Maybe ebay wiped the entire history of that username. I would ask them if this means you can never buy or sell on ebay, but you're not allowed to know why. Best of luck.

·2 years agoThat other account that is linked to you shows as having been suspended, which is why you got the notice.
It appears to be an account that sold various highly faked sneaker brands - Nike, Adidas, Yeezy, Jordan, etc.
If it was found they sold fakes, that explains the suspension.
What type of items are you hoping to sell?

·2 years agoNot forgetting the neg for not sending a $6,500 Rolex. Lots of expensive items. I expect eBay did the usual supply receipts/proof etc with them.

OP2 years agoSo I reiterated to Ebay that I have no knowledge of that other account and asked for steps to appeal the decision, then later got a message that my account has been reinstated after 2 years. Not sure what happened.
Thank you!!

OP2 years agoThanks so much for the responses. You've all been wonderful with all this support. Thank you.
I've had my account since 2006 and I buy more than I sell. Occasional if I have a thing or two to sell I post them, otherwise I buy more often. But I don't use eBay as a business or anything like that.
The first response from them occurred after I tried selling a watch. They ask for the receipt, and I provided one. Since then whenever I wanted to buy and sell watches I used Chrono24.
So I was totally confused. But based on what I'm seeing in the messages I may have slipped up and used a public/work wifi to access my account in the past.
Thanks so much again, everyone

·2 years agoIt can be from your ISP address. Maybe a friend or an adult kid came over and connected their device through your Wi-Fi? EBay security will connect the two.

·2 years agoDid you do a search of that other user name?
Is it possible you opened another account many years ago and forgot about it?
Do you have roommates or family members that you live with? Is it possible they use the same computer, accounts, address, etc.?
ETA: It's allowed for members to have multiple accounts. It sounds like a disallowed activity (shill bidding, feedback padding, previously naru'ed account) was done that showed ebay a connection to the other account(s).
