I think you'd do better by listing locally in on a social website or marketplace. Someone would love to get your stuff... maybe, include a few pic's and/or description of what type of stuff. Not everything is worth selling online.

I'm sorry about the lady at the Catholic school being such a jerk. Maybe she was having an off day or had other "more important" things on her mind. But just because that lady wasn't nice doesn't mean other churches would be that way. I really think most churches are so very grateful for any donations they receive for their rummage sales and I think you should keep an open mind about donating your things to one of them. Maybe you could at least talk to a couple of them and see what they say.
I know this is probably overwhelming for you. If some of us people on this board lived closer to you, I know we would do all we could to help you but most of us live in other states, too far away. So all we can do is wish you the very best and hope you get things taken care of without too much stress.

OP1 year agoYes. I will contact some of the Churches in town and see what they say. Thank you. No matter what, the things will be delt with one way or another. That is the way of the world. I never really know the path I am going on. I just think I do. So, this will be interesting. I thank you and all of the others in other states who know about this and how they care. Most of the sellers I have delt with were very caring. Ebay is full of good sellers. If I had lots of money to start a new kind of eBay, I would do it in a pick-up way and sell from warehouses. There would be lots of people employed and many people able to do with their things what they would like. It would also be open to more buyers as I would not have any shipping costs. The company would handle that. But, the value of things is a tough one. One time a very old man told me one time at an antique sale in Iowa, "The value of something is only worth what someone is willing to pay." How wise he was! Thank you all for thinking of me and who knows, perhaps someone down the chain when hearing about me, may actually turn up. It was a chance worth taking. Thanks again.

·1 year agoPutting out a message on Facebook might help attract others that may be interested in helping. I would say craigslist as well but sometimes you don't know who you are dealing with. (safety)
Regardless of where you may find some help, it would be a good idea to have others with you when they arrive to help.

OP1 year agoVery well said. I thought about that, too. Scary. I grew up in a time where one did not have to worry about those things. We were a wonderful little community. It was/is called Surprise, Nebraska and is located on the Big Blue River between Rising City and Ulysses.

·1 year ago@gerardolsen Another suggestion would be to contact churches in your area. Many churches do "garage sales" or "rummage sales" as a way to raise money for their missions and all the things they sell are donated. A church would probably be happy to have anything you want to donate and they might even be willing to pick up the stuff.

OP1 year agoThank you for the idea, but I once brought a bunch of school supplies to the Catholic School and the lady behind the desk when you walk in, told me to just leave a few things. So I was in the process of delivering them to where she told me to and then she stopped me and said, "That will be all, thank you." So, really I don't think they do want all kinds of stuff unfortunately. And like my mother always said, "People in this area what everything for a nickel or they won't buy it." That part is very true. Oh, well. The idea was a good one. Most Churches would like things given so they may sell. I agree. Thanks.

·1 year agoOK, have to admit I don't understand your stance about this -- if you are able to get out and deliver things to the place where you're donating (Catholic school), then why can't you gather up some of them periodically and just haul them to GW, SA, other thrift stores that accept donations? And perhaps that school was not accepting donations because of storage issues.
Not all churches have periodic rummage sales. However, another option would be a church or facility that offers help to homeless people. In our town, we have FIT (Friends In Tents) where we can donate clothing and food. Do more searching for options.

·1 year agoThose companies that "haul off junk" are very expensive. You have to pay them to take your stuff and I had one guy tell me his company does dispose of the actual junk but they also keep "the good stuff" and resell it.
@gerardolsen If you just want stuff out of your way and are not concerned with a tax deduction for stuff donated to charity, advertise that you have stuff to give away on CL or FBM. If it's free, someone will take it.
A local estate sale company takes all the leftovers (including furniture) after a sale is finished, boxes or bags up the smaller stuff and puts them out on the curb and advertises on CL or FBM "Curb Alert...Free Stuff" and the time and address. He also states "no digging" or "cherry picking"; they have to take the whole box or bag. He always gets rid of everything that way. Easy cleanup for him.

OP1 year agoI am disabled and my doctors wanted that I have some hobbies. I purchased a bunch of doll things to fix. Some need very little to fix. I have almost everything anyone would need to fix the dolls up. I also have some jewelry. Everything I have was from eBay and I just don't want to complete the doll projects. Whoever would like the stuff may do as they please with them. All free of charge. I just don't know of anyone around my area that sells and would like some more stuff to sell. Am I allowed to say where I am located?

OP1 year agoDo you know that I made a comment on Facebook about the site not having "real humans" to call when there are problems and they kicked me off the site. So, they must have a computer that picks up what we say and tosses you out if you make a comment about it. And I still believe there should be humans answering phones for all businesses and sites. I do not believe in machines doing peoples' work. I tried logging in and Facebook logged me into someone else's account. I could see all their things. Now that should be a mistake not made and should be reported to a real person, don't you think? But I was kicked off for saying that there are no humans to answer any phones when something like this happens. I have to wait 186 days before rejoining. You know what? I am saving a lot of time for other things by not belonging to Facebook. So, I am not really hurt at all. Thanks.

OP1 year agoWell, my stuff is just for anyone who likes selling on eBay. They don't have to share any of the profit. They can keep all. I just don't know of anyone around my area that sells and would like these things to sell. Everything is in containers and easy to stack up and go with it all. Nothing to pack but the boxes and go. Real easy.

OP1 year agoYou mean, the person who will take the stuff to sell will charge me? I don't get that part. They can keep all profits for themselves. Everything is in boxes and packed up nicely. All they need to do is stop by and pack the stuff up and go. Done.

·1 year agoThey do one free pick up a year in my city San Francisco.
Recology is the name we go under to ask for a pick-up once a year.
They take stoves, sofas and whatever.
We have to put items on the curb for pick-up.
Sometimes, in my city there are some neat things to take for free...Pacific Heights neighbors thrown away good stuff.
We don't have alleys like other cities.
But have to list everything that is going to be picked up by 'recology'.
Goodwill won't take towels or beddings and such but they do free pick-ups and write out a
tax-deductible for customer to use at end of year...it's a blank receipt where you basically add whatever on the paper receipt.

OP1 year agoAre you joking? I would like someone who does selling on eBay more or less as a full time thing and would like some more things all free. All my stuff came from eBay and is all boxed up. Just take all the boxes and have fun with it all.

·1 year agoMost towns/cities of any size have charity thrift shops. Find one and donate your stuff there. Also, there are actually companies who will come and clear out your house.

OP1 year agoThe things I have are mostly for hobby people. All the things necessary are included. I just don't want to do the hobby anymore. Plus I have a bunch of jewelry I washed and disinfected and they sparkle nice. They can have it all. The places around where I am don't take hobby type things. They may take the jewelry. I just have not tried that yet.

·1 year agoDo an eBay search for general items such as shoes or toys and narrow the search to what's nearest you. Then try contacting some of the sellers. Look at their listings and see if they are in your town.

OP1 year agoI see. I could try that. I wish I could put my town and state on this thing so they could see where I am located. Everything is all boxed up real nicely so all they need to do is have a trailer that is covered to take the boxes out and then drive away. They may keep all profits.

OP1 year agoHow nice of you! I actually am living in my parent's home town. Well, Dad really was from Garrison and I grew up on the Big Blue River in believe it or not, Surprise, Nebraska. All my life until my first job away in Tilden, Nebraska. Life on the Big Blue River was really a treat. The little village was full of very kind and intelligent older people. And my childhood was full of excitement. K-8th in the Surprise 1-R school and then 4 years of high school in Rising City. If I had half a talent in writing, I would write a wonderful book of my childhood in that splendid village. In the past it was known for its Chautauquas and its huge river park. The rich in town had flowers all over and the fishing was much fun. The water was very clear and had a gravel and sand bottom. Now, however, the Big Blue River is more like the Big Muddy Sauce. Never eat the fish. They are not healthy now days. Nice to have met you.

OP1 year agoHi. Thanks for asking. I am located in a small town called David City. And the city is located in Nebraska. I am disabled, but I could help put the boxes into their traveling container to take away. I thought I wanted to fix dolls. Many of them are antique and all the stuff is mostly there already to fix them up. Then I have a bunch of jewelry I cleaned up and they look shiny. I also have books that are for elementary kids. Everything is from eBay anyway. But I am not interested after all to do that hobby of fixing up dolls like I thought I would. Before I just throw them all away, I thought I would ask around. They may keep all profits.

OP1 year agoWell, it was for a hobby the doctors wanted me to have. They don't care what kinds of hobbies. I was doing a lot of purchases for games so I would have them in the old folks home when I go. That may be in 15 years or so. I just don't want to sit and stare at people. Then I tried getting jewelry to clean and fix up nice. Then I love reading so most of my books are for the elementary age kids, but really good books. Most of my stuff is vintage and antique. To tell someone one that they need to stop purchasing is rude. I hope you know that. You were rude to me. So really, unless your are interested, what business is it of yours what I do. I don't go poling into your life. You sound like you have "mean person illness." Maybe you should get so me medications and stop leaving bad and rude comments to people. Have a nice day.

OP1 year agoMy stuff was for hobbies. Fixing vintage and antique dolls. Almost everything is there to fix them up, I just don't want to do it anymore like I thought I would over 14 years ago. Selling on eBay would be the best. Especially for someone who likes doing that kind of thing. One man's junk is another man's treasure, but really the stuff is not in bad condition and can be worked with if one likes to fix dolls. The jewelry is all cleaned and disinfected and the books I have are old but fun to read, elementary type books. Old. Anyone would come to take the things, they are welcome.
