I submit for community approval a third entry to the things that are guaranteed in life.  The previous classics of death and taxes are forever firmly situated in the one and two positions.  I believe we have room for a third:

People who sell on ebay without reading any policy whatsoever and are completely taken aback when policies are enforced which, of course, is no fault of my own.

I realize its a bit wordy so I need help on finding the word that means all of those things, much in the way 'infamous' meant to the Three Amigos.  Please help!

Time changes every thing.  When you keep up with the changes  your eBay life ain't all that bad.

In high school/college I had no issues with algebra up thru calculus.  When my  daughter asked me for help with the NEW MATH way was lost but I still could solve the problems my way - but that was all wrong .  She worked at it and graduated in the top 16 of graduating class of 522.  Go figure....

How long has it been since you sold.  The fees have had little change in the last 5-6 years.  The rule for holding funds on new sellers has also been around for a long time.

You aren't stuck.  The holds don't last that long, then you are free of them.  You just need to get a dozen or so things sold, shipped and received.  Shortly thereafter if all is going well, Ebay will likely stop holding funds.

All sites have rules.  And they always change as time goes on.  The world changes an so do sites like this to accommodate the changes.  If Ebay stood still they wouldn't last long in a competitive market like this.

Get used to the holds. I just got rid of mine, and it took about 6 months, and 350 sales totaling $11k

I'm still upset about GTC (good till cancelled) on fixed price/buy it now listings.

How are we supposed to operate this way?

I'm going to start looking for another platform.

They have the audacity to carry over all of the information and pictures over to the new listing too.  Robbing me of the joy of handling my precious items over and over and leaving me with nothing to do.

All of the marketplaces I sell on require use of their payment processor. However, none are as ridiculously complicated as ebay just in general. Ebay reminds me of those old, slow companies that have accreted so many rules on top of other rules, and rules to fix rules, and rules to back out other rules that were created to fix rules that were created to fix older rules, that it can barely move forward.

I think it could be simplified.

No No NO we  don't want another round of "simplified".

In July 2020 eBay made a big thing out of their new "Simplified" fee structure. This is when they moved sales tax from a separate line item at a reduced discount rate (2.9%?) to being mixed with item+shipping with fees calculated at the  much higher Category Rate.

"Good News" or "Simplified" two things you don't want to hear from eBay.

I'm thinking of real-world simplification, not whatever kludge that was. It's not something I think we need to worry about, though. 🤨

I sold here for years but quit last Spring. I'd not want to be a new or returning seller here now for anything, either. Godspeed.

You can cancel unsold listings any time you want.  Auctions with bids have some conditions and your charged the selling fee so, it's best to just let those sell.

Holds are a different thing than back in the days of the "fronted" PP money (that could be snatched back as fast as it was paid) but as eBay now has their own payment processor, they choose to hold the "payouts" for new or infrequent sellers to cut eBay losses in the event of problems.

If desired, you can end listings that have no bids without any fee.

Your 4 sales payments will be released after bit, and if desired you can then just walk away.

The total fees have not changed much in the past few years. If you previously sold when PayPal was the money processor, it can feel like a big change, but the total paid is very similar.

eBay has changed, but I would not say it’s worse, not by a long shot.
