Would you ever respond to a positive feedback?
Summary: The discussion revolves around sellers contemplating whether to respond to positive feedback that includes complaints about shipping costs. inhawaii shared a feedback experience where the buyer appreciated the item but grumbled about shipping fees, which was already below the seller's cost. Many participants, including twyngwyn and sin-n-dex, suggest ignoring such feedback to avoid drawing unnecessary attention or stirring potential issues. Others, like mam98031, view a polite response as harmless but understand the argument against highlighting the issue. The consensus leans towards not responding, citing that the feedback would soon be buried among other positive comments.
Feedback left:
Great buy! Not a fan of the shipping cost but they got it to me quickly and I sincerely appreciate that!
How I would like to respond (but not going to):
I'm not a fan of the shipping either. I charged $15 shipping. My actual cost was $17.

·3 weeks agoThey always have to get their pokes in somewhere guess it makes them feel like they "won" in the transaction against the evil ebay seller ripping them off when in reality we are just scraping by keeping up with all the insanity and then USPS drama. It amazes me the amount of people who still think this is 2003 and we can ship your 2 pound box for $3 .

·3 weeks agoCan't this FB be removed by eBay under the policy of disallowing a negative comment under a positive FB?

·3 weeks agoI do. I probably shouldn't lol, but I do. Haven't had one in ages, the last one I remember complained that about the item & the specific thing they complained about was in my listing 4x. I want a people to know that I listed it correctly.
The argument against is the it highlights the reply, which it does LOL.

·3 weeks agoNah, I wouldn't reply. It would only draw more attention to their FB left.

·3 weeks agoI used to respond to things like that, but I realized it was a form of poking the bear. If you ignore it then likely nothing happens, a response could lead to a claim, complaint or would draw attention to a feedback that would soon be buried.

·3 weeks agoI wouldn't bother responding. In two weeks it will be buried on page 2 anyway, and responding just draws attention to it, instead of it sitting in a sea of green that no one is going to read.

·3 weeks agoI rarely do that. But I don't see the harm in responding respectfully and professionally. Maybe something like this.
I'm not a fan either!! Unfortunately recent USPS price increases has brought us here. Sorry!

·3 weeks agoI think I would only respond to positive feedback that I wanted to be highlighted. I would not respond to those types, even though it would bother me, because if I don't, it just blends in when someone scrolls through our feedback.

·3 weeks agoI ignore soft positives like that since I wouldn't want to draw attention to any dissatisfaction. I get that many customers don't know just how expensive shipping is today, but that has always been the case on Ebay.

Detrimental is Detrimental.
You don't get a 2nd chance with me.

·3 weeks agoThe support from ebay and slim margins makes you feel minded to it, this stance is the best way to prevent reputational damage.

·3 weeks agoAh, one of my few pet peeves; people crying about shipping price in feedback after willingly paying for an item. They talk like we have control over the shipping prices or get a cut of it or something.
Definitely not worth your time, but man is it annoying; sorry you got a buyer like this.
inhawaii
OP3 weeks agoI agree.
It''s bad enough that they complain about something they were perfectly willing to pay.
What makes this one worse is that they paid LESS than what it actually cost me! LOL

·3 weeks agoNo need nor is there any reason to respond. Heck, I don't even respond to the rare negative comment. Let this sleeping dog lie.

·3 weeks agoI actually replied to a similar FB one time, just to make me feel better, but we both know it's a waste of time, the FB will roll over soon, the buyer probably won't even see it, and neither will anybody else since nobody reads positives.

·3 weeks ago · EditedIf this is true, then @inhawaii you might as well let ‘em have it with a “How oblivious are you?! I charged you less than the actual price I paid to ship it you ungrateful dimwit!”
inhawaii
OP3 weeks agoI would love to leave your reply .... verbatim. LOL

·3 weeks agoYea you don't hear the word dimwit enough these days. I also like nincompoop.

·3 weeks agoYes, I responded to similar with…you actually got discounted postage, with a smiley 🙂

·3 weeks agoYes it doesnt hurt buyers to have a reality check now and again.

·3 weeks agoIf I was wanting to reply, I would send the buyer a message and not do it in feedback. I have replied to feedback before when someone complained about something (in a positive).
