Wont let me send offer of $5 less
UPDATE TO THIS ORIGINAL POST. I was not trying to send a percent off. I was trying to send a dollar amount and no matter what first number of the offer I typed in, the red letters would pop up saying the offer had to be at least $25, which my offer was. So as recommended I switched it to percent off and was able to send an offer and yes..human error I failed to post a pic of the Ford logos on the backs of the cups and will be editing the whole listing today so hopefully it will stop the red pop up when I want to send a $ amount offer to soneone. Thanks.
have an item listed for $100 that has a watcher so I'm trying to send an offer of $95 but Ebay keeps telling me my offer has to be below $25. Can anyone tell me why this is happening?

Just a suggestion: instead of selling these four sleeves to a lot, why not sell them by the sleeve and show that you have a quantity of 4 (or whatever quantity since you say you have more) so that someone could buy however many sleeves they want. There might be some people who could afford $50.00 for one sleeve but can't afford $200.00 for four sleeves or they might not want or have room for four sleeves.

OP8 months agoBecause it's super hard to find a box to ship a sleeve in. The sleeve is not sturdy enough to survive shipping.

If you have any electrical repair or lighting fixture places or commercial builders (of buildings) in your area, check with them to see if they have any boxes that long florescent bulbs come in. Floral shops sometimes get shipments of flowers in long boxes , and Valentine's Day is coming up so they should be getting lots of long-stem roses in those long boxes. Or to buy new boxes, it might cost you a little money but you might find some mailing tubes that would work (if you buy boxes, build the cost into your shipping cost).

·8 months agoGood to see that you got past the problem. Showing the Ford logos will also be a major boost in appeal to Ford collectors and restorers so you might not even need to discount it after that. I would fix the photos first and leave the price where it is for a while.
Speaking of discounts... offering 5% off is a bit insulting - it makes it look as if you are being forced to offer a discount that you really do not want to do. I have sent offers in my selling account from time to time but never for less than 10% off.
I find that 15% off works well because I think a lot of people see 15% as a profit margin and so taking 15% off makes it look like I'm just selling them off for what I paid for them. (I am not. 😉)

·8 months agoThe minimum offer amount you can send is 5% off which is what you are trying to do, So it does not make any sense.

Are you talking about the "Ford Auto" paper cups?
Is there Ford branding on those somewhere that I'm missing?
Asking because those might make a fun gift for a Ford devotee in the family, but I don't see Ford branding anywhere on the cups or the box.

OP doesn't show the back of the cups in her listing which she should have. There is a Worthpoint listing for some of these cups which show the backs and those do have the Ford logo on the back.
@bearmom465
You really need to have a photo of the back of the cups which shows the Ford logo. Otherwise, no one knows they are actually Ford. Also, if I may suggest, it would be better if you would put "Safety Slogan" in the title instead of Continental Can.

OP8 months agoAh...I looked up that Worthpoint listing and it is my Ebay listing from a long time ago that I had on Ebay.

Oh, thanks.
Yes, Ford is the big draw for these so it should be shown, otherwise they are just random cups. 😂

·8 months agoAs @wastingtime101 suspected above, this IS user error.
In order to send SIO (seller initiated offers), you can only select percentage off or dollar amount off. (You cannot send an offer for the price you want to sell it for.)
The only time you can send an offer of a purchase price dollar amount is in response to a buyer's question.
Percent off:
Dollar amount off:
wastingtime101
·8 months ago@albertabrightalberta You can send "offer amount" but only on single items not in bulk. I'm guessing you had multiple items selected when you took your screenshots.
OP needs to make sure they selected the correct offer type, and if one offer type is presenting an error then they can select a different offer type and convert the number so it's the same level of discount.
No matter the offer type on the seller's end, it appears the same on the buyer's end - letting them know it's X% off and $Y price.
Edit: typo

You are correct. I had more than one item on which I could send offers. So I didn't see the "offer amount" option.

·8 months agoAlthough not related to your technical problem, a 5% discount on a $100 item is a joke. Learn how to negotiate.
kibble-net
·8 months ago5 percent is the minimum discount. Are you sure you aren't trying to discount 95% instead of 5%?
bearmom465
OP8 months agoDouble checked it..nope it's not set to percent. As I start to type in 95.00, right after I hit 9 it pops up in red letters that it must be at least 25.00. When I complete the 95.00 the send offer tab remains gray instead of blue and won't let me send the offer.
wastingtime101
·8 months agoInstead of sending an offer amount of $95, switch it to an amount off of $5 or a percent off of 5%. See if that gets you around it.
tarotfindsandmore
·8 months agoNo idea, but have you tried sending an offer for 5% off rather than 95 dollars. Might not explain why it's happening but may get you to the same place in the meantime.
wastingtime101
·8 months agoThis sounds like user error. Check the settings - are you doing a dollar amount off, a percentage amount off, or are you sending an offer price.
Sounds like your intention is to send $5 off, but you're actually trying to send an offer of $5.
Or perhaps your intention is to send an offer of $95, but you're actually trying to send an offer of $95 off.
See what I'm getting at?
eBay has safeguards programmed in so you can't send an offer more than a certain amount off your list price to prevent you from inadvertently selecting the wrong setting and sending an offer of $5 when you meant to send an offer of $5 off.
----------
Edit to add: the safeguard is set at 75% off the current price, so it makes sense you'd see an error message saying you can't send an offer below $25.
