Winning bidder has wrong address
Summary: In a discussion regarding a winning bidder with the wrong address, jonathanbrightlight highlights the importance of shipping to the address provided by eBay at checkout. They caution sellers not to change the shipping address, as doing so results in losing all seller protection. jonathanbrightlight advises confirming that any address change requests come directly from the buyer's account and not another user; otherwise, the message should be reported and ignored. If the request is genuine, the seller can cancel the order, allowing the buyer to repurchase with the correct address.
I generate my shipping labels through eBay and now a winning bidder says the address listed is his old address. What can I do to ship to the right address and still go through eBay shipping labels? @Linkstomembers

·4 months agoI don't even dicker with the customer about this. If they tell me this then I immediately cancel the order "Problem with address." then relist the item and THEN I message the customer. "I am sorry, I cannot change the address. Your order has been cancelled, the item is back up and available for you to re-order with the correct address attached."
Nearly all of them re-order. When they don't I usually feel like I dodged a bullet.

·4 months agoeBay does allow you to change the address. Even when using eBay labels. They do limit you to changing the basic address information as long as you are not changing the ZIP Code. I’ve done plenty of times – sometimes because the buyer needs for me to do so, sometimes because there is something weird with the address and I need to split things over two lines or make a slight correction. I have never declined a simple change, but I suppose I would think twice if the item was very expensive or the buyer story seemed a little bit hinky.

·4 months agoYou might also want to mention to your buyer that:
1. He has the opportunity to double check his shipping address before he completes his transaction.
2. The USPS offers anyone the chance to enter a forwarding order.

·4 months agoSellers are not allowed to change the shipping address. Customer can claim he "did not receive item" and you would be forced to refund his money.
You need to "cancel sale" using reason "bad address". Relist this item as the price of his "winning bid" and have them repurchase item.

·4 months agoNever change the address from the one shown on the order (that does not have to be an address registered to the buyer's account, they can input any address at checkout, but you must ship to whatever address is provided to you by eBay and no other address).
If you got a message from a user asking you to change the shipping address for a recent sale, FIRST check that the message actually came from your buyer. If it is from a different user account, report the message and ignore it, and ship to the address on the order.
If it is from your buyer, let them know you can cancel the order and let them repurchase the item with the correct address.

·4 months agoJust an additional note to keep in mind. While a seller can technically change the ship to address on an order, it is NOT a good idea. When a seller does this, they LOSE ALL Seller protection on the transaction @heymissy . What @inhawaii and @jonathanbrightlight states are accurate. It simply isn't something you should do.

·4 months agoNothing you can do about changing the address. You can cancel for bad address and relist. Or ship to the address and it becomes the buyers issue. Keep in mind, this request may not be coming from the buyer, but someone else trying to scam the item.

·4 months agoCancel the sale. Reason: Problem with buyers address.
Have the buyer buy it again, this time with the correct address.
