why is every eBay update so much worse?
I have been selling on eBay for a few years now. It seems like every update that they roll out with the mobile app makes it so much worse and less user friendly. They nix useful functions all of the time, tending to add three or four extra steps just to achieve the same result of the function they delete. I hate the new send offer formats. They removed "email shipping label" options. Relisting ended listings is now a pain... The most confusing thing is that I have automatic app updates turned off on my phone, but this singular app still finds ways to auto-update.
Currently, my biggest gripe is now searching for sold items. I deal in electronics often so it is common to search a model number something along the lines of "SLV-3259S", when I toggle over to sold items I have to carefully read each model number because the first suggested sold item might be "SLV-3259SU2" now, mixed in with many other model numbers that do not match the one I searched. Previously, it would say no items match your search and provide similarly named listings below, but now it just mixes in random other items without any discretion.
Why do they do this? Why does it seem like they are hell bent on going backwards and making things harder with every update? I took a few months off from reselling but it seems so much more complicated upon return that I am reconsidering. What gives?

·1 year agoInteresting to read that this is happening with the App too! It's been so bad with the website, I can hardly function & I'm a 28 year user who spent longer than that of my real life in IT. Every week some functionality goes missing or requires 10 more clicks. Making a process I do multiple times a day (SIO's) go from 5 minutes to 1/2 hour each time just due to so much additional unnecessary clicks & nesting. Then they took away the SH filter I used the most. Didn't move it, just GONE! They've driven their own customers away with the constant changes. Buyers hate it as much as sellers.
But, I had no idea it was happening on the app too. I only use the app for some light functions when I'm not home. So frustrating, esp when 50% of my buyers still use desktops! I have no words of wisdom for you, except to click on those 'what do you think' & tell them what you think, b/c they do read those, but those of use who use the web version are in the same boat. The hits come almost daily!

·1 year agoSome features on my seller hub have disappeared. I don't know whether it's a glitch or an update. It's now very hard to select the buyers that I want to make offers to. Either make offers to all eligible buyers at once or none at all. Also, I could earily see value of my total listings in large print and that is gone. Need to write 300 page book to list all glitches and bad up dates in past 20 years. Ebay needs to hire the best developers it can find.

People don't like change.
Every single change, no matter how minor, people complain.
They eventually get used to it and some may even like it.
I don't know of you were around for the GTC (good till cancelled) implementation?
The way people were complaining it was like the end of the world.
There was literally an uproar.
People were vowing to leave the platform.
"I can't do business like this."
Now sellers don't give it a second thought.

·1 year agoAgreed. I wasn't in charge of this account at the time, but I remember the change and being worried about how it was going to affect us. It's actually turned out great, so much less time spent per day/week/month worrying about what is/isn't still listed, but I know it was the cause of much concern at the time.

·1 year agoI disagree, I've been using ebay for years and could easily find what I wanted with the side filters giving fine control. So for instance, I could search for a car I wanted by fuel, mileage, proximity, transmission etc by checking the boxes and then look at the results to actually give me some ideas before honing in on the type that looked best.
Now you are presented with big pictures of types of car, brands, or whatever, none of which I want to select and lead nowhere. After thousands of purchases and only admiration for the site and database, I now rarely use it except to remind myself that things don't always get better.

·1 year agoI agree. 90% of eBay updates are useless for sellers or buyers. They do it to for their own pockets. I guess they feel like the more items that are shown the more conversions there are. Instead of the old model of showing buyers what they actually want, they just show them everything.

·1 year agoThis is what people in boardrooms do. They constantly come up with ideas to make changes that are only to aid in the profits of the company. They have zero experience with how the business is constructed & have no idea what it takes for sellers to use the site & gain their own profits. Every change isn't sending eBay into the future, it is simplifying the website, so it is less expensive to maintain. I worked for a winery for 8 years. Every year, they were tearing sections apart or relocating. None of it helped employees. Each one made little change to how the products were produced. It just annoyed the employees & made their jobs more difficult. I was in an overflow warehouse where I worked alone. Eventually, I was laid off because they changed the function of the warehouse, so the orders were pulled from there. This change made absolutely no sense. This meant the drivers spent an extra 40-50 mins in travel time to pick up & deliver. All of the money spent on relocating & fuel. Meanwhile, I had taken the course to refresh our forklift training & came away with the best score. Also, in 8 years, I never missed a day due to sickness & no accidents. Yet - I was the only 1 laid off who drove a forklift. lol Another smart more by them.

·1 year agoUnfortunately I agree. I've never seen a company make so many changes that do not help and take away actual features that do. The changes to promoted listing traffic only showing 2 days instead of every day. Now them changing the entire traffic page to make it more difficult to determine your actual store traffic. They continue to fix things that are not broken. It's honestly sad, eBay used to be a great platform now it's a shadow of its former self...

·1 year agoeBay is only generating profit in advertising. Their revenue was down 50%. Meaning they're only making money from promoted lidtings and advertising. The bubble has burst, you can only squeeze sellers so much before they're not even making a profit.
