Why is eBay overriding my Buyer Rule?
I had 3 auctions close pretty close together in the past hour. The first one was paid within 10 minutes or so, while the other 2 are not yet paid. But I see very different messages from eBay about their payment statuses. One is what I am used to and expect: Buyer has 4 days to pay. The other says it's an Auto-pay transaction, with the standard 1-hour latency for that. But I should not be having ANY such transactions, because I don't have it checkmarked in my Preferences.
As much as I dislike slow payers and deadbeats, I DON'T use the autopay option with payment method required before bidding, because so many buyers hate it enough that they won't buy from sellers who require it, and it's even worse with auctions because there's no way they can do a snipe bid in time. When I run auctions, snipers can make a HUGE difference in the final winning bid amount, especially when there are multiple snipers. Case in point: the first auction. Its bid more than doubled from the $61 it had before the final few seconds.
And that is how the fountain pen should have gone too. It had 917 views and 67 bleepin' watchers!!! But it had only one measley sniper try to win in the final seconds, leaving the zero feedback winner's proxy bid high enough to win.
I have no idea how many of those other watchers might have TRIED to snipe, only to run into that *&^%#%@ payment method popup window! I DO NOT WANT THAT, so why the heck did eBay make it happen for this one auction??

·6 months agoEbay makes the rules, If sellers have their own rules such as no returns etc., It doesn't make a difference to Ebays rules.

·6 months agoI was thinking that as well. Guest buyers will show 0 feedback and don't have a good way to return and find their buys again. I think they are set up to auto pay.

·6 months agoI don't think this is what's going on. It used to be that guest buyers could not bid on auctions, and I don't think that has changed.
I just tried bidding on one of @gurlcat's auctions while I was logged out, and it would not let me continue without logging in. So I could not place a bid as a guest.
Once I logged in, it would have allowed me to bid without providing a payment method, but I didn't want to risk messing up the auction.
