why does ebay punish you for poor sales?
I was looking and i moved from top seller to above average seller as projected for 7/20. I looked at my defects and all of a sudden they went from 3 to 18. I called and they said because I was under 400 items sold in the last 3 months they will now count a years worth of defects instead of 3 months worth. **bleep** is wrong with these people. i asked why are you punishing sellers for poor sales or taking a break? I am here 26 yrs and i hate them more and more every month.

·2 years agoBack when I was a young lad of 20 or so, I went to work at a local car dealership.
Ford.
Management used to get "house deals". Friends or relatives of the owner or GM, factory connections, politicians, etc. People who were going to just pick out a vehicle and buy it. The lucky salesperson would get a 'mini-deal' fee, but it was easy money. All you had to do was the paperwork and delivery.
I hit a bad spot. A real sales slump.
I was getting low on money, and realized that I had not gotten a 'house deal' for a long time and I asked the SM ... why?
He said, "Why should I feed deals to someone who can't sell a car? I haven't seen a sale from you in two weeks."
It's a fair question.
Why should they feed you leads, when you can't close them?
Kind of a waste, eh?

·2 years agoTo have a post edited or deleted by the moderators, it has to breach one of the Ebay Community rules. @meme6253 did not break any rule by what they said, so they are fine.
Again, speaking to something you have no knowledge of @hachumi ????

Anyways glad you asked me another question, because you can answer my last one, that you forgot to answer last time.
How much do they pay you?
Enlighten me about this program that I know so little about, I may want to apply.
thanks for your service (salute)

·2 years agoOMG this has gotten ridiculous. The OP did not get punished for anything. Their status wasn't downgraded. They are a TRS. The ONLY thing that happened was the OP is now eval'd on the 20th of each month for the previous 12 month period instead of what they were being eval'd on the previous 90 days.
That is NOT being punished. They are still TRS. They are not being charged any fees. They are not lowered in the search results. There is no penalty for this change.

Getting back on topic
If it's a nothing burger
Then why does Ebay even bother?
Why would they pay for a program to monitor this?

·2 years agoI think part of the issue he is getting at is.....................Ok, he has 18 defects the past year, depending on his volume that might not be that bad, but once you get labeled as a por performer and can no longer promote your listings, your sales will suddenly plummet, so maybe instead of 100 sales per month, you're down to 50 or less, that makes it even harder to climb out of the percentage hole you've gotten into.
mam98031
·2 years agoDropping from being eval'd on the last 90 days to the last 12 months is NOT dropping the status of the seller. All it means is they are no longer selling 400+ transactions in the last 90 day period. In fact the OP is still TRS.
But 18 defects seems like a high number. The OP hasn't yet come back and explained this.
mam98031
·2 years agoIt will help to start with Ebay is not punishing you. Ebay has had rules for Seller Performance for years. They are what we have to contend with as a seller. When you drop from selling 400+ items in 90 days to a lower amount of sales, then Yes the stats they evaluate you on changes. This shouldn't be a surprise. You've been here long enough to know this stuff.
18 defects is a bit high in the last 12 months. Make sure you keep a close eye on your Seller Dashboard so you can see if you have a problem sneaking up on you. You might be able to get proactive before it creates a bigger issue for you.

·2 years agoPeople use the wrong words here.
Are you talking defect ?
They only happen from 2 things
Cancelling due to out of stock or not resolving cases that eBay has to make decision on.
Yes your low sales and sales dropping off does impact your defect % that you have to keep under 0.5%.
Just how math works.

·2 years agoYour account also gets defects when the carrier doesn't scan your package at dropoff.
Your account gets defects when the carrier is late with/loses your packages.
Your account gets defects when the carrier damages your package contents.

·2 years agoNot actual defects. Transaction defects are only from the things I mentioned.
Maintaining appropriate late shipment rate is separate from defects.

·2 years agoi asked why are you punishing sellers for poor sales or taking a break?
They are not punishing you for poor sales or for taking a break.
They are punishing you for having transaction defects.

·2 years ago@nylvseller eBay expects all its members to do their due diligence before listing or buying their first item.
It’s up to us to take the initiative to learn the rules and procedures that govern the site. eBay provides the details of all policy matters in the UA and the extensive Help pages that outline what we each need to know in order to be successful here.
Every seller here has either given their tacit approval to follow the rules that eBay sets, or has opted out. (When one chooses to opt out rather than accept the User Agreement in full, then the next page eBay shares with the recalcitrant member is the policy page on how to close one’s account.)

·2 years agoYou can read the help files and should.
You can read the Seller Level Page under performance. And you might have to click the little info dots to understand all of the numbers.
If you don't know the rules it is hard to be Top Rated, unless you are selling huge volumes.

·2 years agoIt is still a form of punishment

·2 years ago@meme6253
Would you mind being specific on this. I really want to understand your point of view. How is the OP being punished? The only thing that changes for them is they are eval'd on the 20th of every month on the previous 12 month period instead of the previous 90 day period.
There are no additional fees. They are still TRS. They are not lowered in search results. What are you seeing as a punishment?
meme6253
·2 years agoHis defects dropped from 3 to 18 as they stated, Just because their sales dropped below 400 in a month, Were all having trouble making sales!
mam98031
·2 years agoNow that is a valid point, but the OP has not come back to give any more information on it.
However keep in mind they were running 400+ transaction every 90 days up until last month. So their eval time frame changes. So they do have a large number of transactions to dilute the impact those defects might have. But without the details of the defects, when they happened and the transaction count, we can't know what the impact is if there is any negative impact at all.
It isn't 400 sales per month, it is 400+ sales every 90 days.
hachumi
·2 years agoCareful, he'll delete your comments next.
Sales transactions are counted the last 12 months.
transaction defects for cancelling for out of stock is counted the last 12 months.
Late shipments are counted the last 12 months.
Cases closed without a seller resolution is counted the last 12 months
The only defect that is counted the past 3 months is tracking uploaded and validated.
Also to be TRS you must sell 100 items or more AND earn $1000 or more during the past 12 months.
The seller dashboard shows this information, it hasn't changed in years.
Also look at your Seller Metrics it shows your INRs and NAD cases they are also counted for the past 12 months.

OP2 years agomy ebay sellers performance rep who I spoke to does not agree with you.
chapeau-noir
·2 years agoForgive me, but what is this "eBay performance rep" you speak of? If it's just the usual bee-essing front line rep, they'll tell you anything.
It's a year look-back for sellers like myself with less than 400 sales in a quarter. It sux and is a ridiculous tranch, but that's how it is.
Edited for fat fingers.
