Why does eBay not always inform you of an Offer from a promotional ad?
So when you promote an item you can choose whichever % and if the item sells FROM that ad then you'll be charged that extra %.
My problem is when a buyer sends me a lowball offer eBay used to inform me (when I click on the offer) if it came from a promoted ad or not. However, the past handful of orders or so eBay isn't specifying this & I find out upon accepting....not sure if I would've accepted the lowball offers if I knew I'd be charged more.
Other times I am notified with a pop-up saying "This offer came from your promotional listing so your ad rate of __% will apply."
Anyone else notice this?

·10 months agoI promote all my listings, at only 2% for all! And I will say that almost every offer I receive from a buyer usually includes the message that its from a sponsored listing and will include the promotional rate. But with buy now or offers I send out as a seller, its more like a third of them will include the promotional rate. I feel its worth the extra percentage, especially if it helps push older items or things that are more niche. I just always assume if I'm accepting or sending an offer, that it may include that promotional rate as well.

·10 months agoIt's possible those are being charged ad fees not because the customer got there directly from a promoted view, but from the halo effect (they viewed a different promoted item, or even that same one but at a previous time, and then ended up making an offer on the other item), and those are usually charged the ad fee at some point after the sale, once eBay has made the connection. I have no idea why that can't be tracked at the time, but I know it's been reported that it shows up after.

OP10 months agoSide question, how do we know eBay is staying truthful when we have no form of accountability to hold them to? Couldn't they just claim EVERY item sold came from a promotion to get more?

·10 months agoThe fact that plenty of sellers who promote all or some of their listings still report significant percentages of sales from organic views is good enough for me.
