Why does eBay allow 65-day presale listings?
Summary: liberty_coin_shop initiated a discussion on eBay's policy allowing sellers to list presale items 65 days before release. They expressed concern about compliance and fairness, noting personal challenges with lower sales prices compared to those selling earlier. mam98031 explained eBay's policy as actually 40 business days and offered advice on handling non-compliant listings. inhawaii questioned the policy's enforcement, and onlinecentral highlighted risks sellers face with presale timing. onefootflipper shared experiences of fraudulent practices in the presale market, adding caution about these practices.
I was curious about why eBay permits sellers to list presale items 65 days before availability. The policy aims to offer flexibility, helping sellers manage upcoming releases while buyers can secure items early. Compliance with eBay's guidelines is crucial, including shipping within 40 business days and clear listing details. I'm interested in how this works in practice for sellers. Have you listed presale items, and if so, what has your experience been like? Did the long lead time work as expected, or were there challenges in meeting eBay's requirements?

·1 week agoThose other sellers will get dings on their Seller Metrics.
1) They can create labels now to not get strikes for Tracking Uploaded Within Handling Time.
2) But those labels won't get an acceptance scan within handling time, adding strikes.
3) The USPS may reject old labels and return to sender.
4) Sellers can get tons of Item Not Received cases and issue refunds.
If you create your listing closer to or after December 3rd, you might get some buyers who were disappointed by early sellers. Maybe the price will go up. The concept of presale is more than my risk tolerance can handle.

A: They don't. I believe they allow 40 days.
None of us know why. You would have to ask eBay that question directly.

OP1 week agoWell the 2026 p 9/11 Never Forget half dollar coin wont even be shiped from the Federal Mint until Dec 3 that's 65 days from now and they have been selling the coins for 2 weeks on ebay. That's about 80 days. So yes they allow it. Don't take my word for it look it up. Im playing by the rules and the 300 that I have ordered will be worthless because ebay pickes and chooses what policies they follow. So much for them standing on there soap box and telling how we should follow there policies.

·1 week ago@liberty_coin_shop The answer is an easy one. The sellers doing this are NOT accurately filling out their listings and are not telling the truth to Ebay about handling time during the listing set up. Just report them as you find them. This is seller acting badly not Ebay. So report the sellers.

OP1 week agoI have and they do nothing. Then when they send the transcript to me it's blank. They pick and chooses what they enforce. Eday has just become a big joke. A I sends you in circles and when u do get someone on customer service they just give lip service. I see why so many people leave to go to other platforms.

·1 week agoIDK what "the transcript" is? Are you talking about reporting these sellers via the Ebay Chat option?
"They pick and chooses what they enforce. Eday has just become a big joke." Yes often those that don't have the experience to know differently feel this way, but it isn't based in facts but in your feelings. Ebay NEVERS reports back to someone that reports another member on what Ebay did or didn't do. That would be private account info that you have no right to have. Because they don't tell you doesn't mean they did nothing.
I'm unsure as to why you are contacting Customer Service to begin with.I'm unsure as to why you are contacting customer service to begin with.
On every listing you view, there is a "?" in the lower right corner of the listing. Click on that and follow the instructions to Report the Listing.
You have a return policy that isn't one you can enforce on Ebay without causing yourself issues with Ebay. "30 days returns. Buyer pays for return shipping. If you use an eBay shipping label, it will be deducted from your refund amount. " If a buyer files an INAD and you process it, then you ARE responsible for paying the return shipping. If a buyer files a proper Buyer's Remorse Claim, then the buyer is responsible for paying the return shipping. The buyer CAN get an Ebay shipping label that will be charged to the BUYER.

OP1 week agoEbay is making alot of money off of this. Is that why they choose not to do anything about it. Anyway Ebay got there money. FORGET about us that play by the rules. The 300 that I have ordered are selling for $8 to $10 each. But all the people that sold there's starting 2 weeks ago got $80 and above for each. What a joke. I see why people are moving off of this platform.

·1 week agoEbay may or may not be "making a lot of money off of these". If buyers don't get the item within the 40 days allowed by Ebay, then the buyer can file an INR for the item and likely end up with a refund. During that process the fees to the seller are also refunded as long as Ebay doesn't have to step in on the INR. So Ebay isn't really making as much as you think they are.
Two things to keep in mind. Ebay policy on presales is 40 BUSINESS DAYS, so weekends do not count.
Buyers are protected under the MBG for 30 days PAST the last estimated delivery date.
