Why does a buyer not shipping something back trigger a case?
Summary: quadcitypickers expressed concern over receiving an email from eBay that suggested a case had been opened, causing confusion and anxiety since the buyer had not contacted eBay. shire123 clarified that checking the seller's hub can verify if there are open returns or cancellations. inhawaii added that if a buyer doesn't return an item, it typically results in the case being closed in favor of the seller. hartungcards humorously asked what doesn't cause stress, to which quadcitypickers replied, 'Mini Muffins.'
What's worse is that it looks like the buyer asked for help, when in fact they didn't.
This is the email I get...
Hi xxxxx,
We'd previously contacted you about a case that xxxx has asked eBay Customer Service to review and make a final decision.
Until the case is resolved, the case amount will be withheld from future payouts.
Here's the thing..
eBay never previously contacts you.
There was never a case until this email. A return is NOT a case.
The buyer never actually contacts eBay (I've asked reps multiple times)
This email gives me a mini panic attack because I think there is an actual case opened.
Why does eBay do it this way? Seems really weird.

·1 month agoThat doesn't sound like ANY email Ebay would send to you or any seller, so it appears the buyer is trying to bully you into doing something like send them their money back. If you don't see this in your messages as something from Ebay, I would REPORT this email as a Scam Attempt. You can do that in My Messages from the three horizontal dots on the upper right side when you are in the message. Select REPORT.

·1 month agoIf a buyer doesn't send something back, it doesn't "trigger" a case, it "closes" the return case in your favor.

·1 month agoOn your sellers hub there is a box (2nd on top for all orders). One of the lines is for open returns and for cancelations. If there is nothing there then there should be no case with ebay.
