·1 year agoMost stuff on Amazon is far more expensive than eBay. Many of the same sellers on eBay sell on Amazon and charge premium prices for the same thing on Amazon. On eBay some sellers have higher prices than Amazon, but a quick search on eBay will show that there will be many sellers selling the same thing for literally pennies. Some sellers it seems list things on eBay for the MSRP (Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price) even though other sellers are selling the same item for a tenth of the MSRP on eBay.

·1 year agoI too have been ripped off by an Ebay seller who charged me over $20 more for floor tiles that are being sold on Amazon. It is the exact same product. I looked at another product that this seller was advertising and once again, the seller was charging $14 more for a storage basket that is the same exact product on Amazon. Because of this experience, I will NEVER buy another thing on EBay. Why is this allowed. This is clearly a scam! Buyers beware!

·2 years agoThis is the issue I've raised for years. They wonder why they're losing buyers, when they are no longer competitive.
Each quarter they brag about how much revenue is up from PL, ignoring the fact that the more they gain out of PL, the less competitive eBay's pricing is against others.
Nowadays it's likely that sellers still expect eBay to be cheaper and they don't know better. Because if they were comparing, they would certainly go with the cheaper prices.
It seems many people aren't familiar with Amazon, and the reason Amazon can be cheaper is if they use FBA (which all prime sales do) they are NOT paying the shipping fee themselves (they only cover the discounted shipping to Amazon). Meaning they can reduce prices more for the customer in the end as long as the items sell and are not sitting in Amazon's warehouse forever.

·2 years agoHere's a complete opposite of what you wrote. Last year I had someone on Amazon that was using me to dropship (until I caught wise that more than that was going on and shut him down.)
I have an item that is listed on here for about $50, with free shipping. The guy on Amazon was selling it for over $125 plus shipping of $20. The customer bought 3 of them. I was absolutely sick that those people paid well over $300 for the items, taxes on that higher amount and shipping to boot. I was able to shut him down because he rebranded my name as his own.
You will see it on both platforms. People do it. People pay for it because of whatever reason, even if the same pictures and descriptions are used. As someone else said it is retail arbitrage in some cases, dropshipping or just those taking advantage of people because they can.

·2 years agoThere are people who believe that if they legally can do something they should. There are others who believe that even if something is legal, they should not do it if it is not right, ethical or moral.
No one is likely to be moved by words to change their beliefs.
We see lots of threads here where buyers have taken matters in their own hands when dealing with those who do things which are not right, do something which is wrong, unethical, immoral or even illegal, and punish those who took the wrong path. Perhaps finding doing what is wrong is bad for business will change their behavior, though I doubt it.
I have no intention of wearing armor as a requirement for selling on Ebay.

·2 years agoI agree with what you wrote here for the most part - Its all opinion and conjecture based on what we know or what we think we know - Thats why we post here, to set ours forth - To balance the scales where middle ground becomes evident - that place where truth tends to be revealed.
But I do have contention with this statement:

In thought, you seem like a reasonable person, so like most reasonable people, your actions are dictated by your values and limited by the lines that you are unwilling to cross, correct? You dont need to wear armor, but profit at any expense is morally and ethically wrong, I'm sure you would agree - And that is a line that all of us should not be willing to cross. And if you get pushed out because of your refusal to cross it, then so be it - There is a world full of opportunity out there. One of the reasons for the OP is peoples fear of change to the point of detriment.

·2 years agoWhen we buy stuff online I find that most items are LESS in price on eBay than on Amazo. On a few occasions have found the same seller of the same identical item on eBay and Amazon the item would be a bit higher on Amazon. As reported by others on these boards Amazon selling fees are somewhat higher than on eBay.. Go figure

·2 years agoNot anymore. Amazon took that out of their terms of service several years ago. I am quite sure they realized it was just a matter of time before they got hauled into court with a federal price fixing charge. What they had was categorically illegal, and they knew it.
As for the OP's original question, there are other reasons. First, Amazon has no problem selling things at a loss to clear the competition. Amazon is well known to drive prices down to below cost just to eliminate other sellers of that product. They have gotten more sophisticated by their idiotic 'high price alert' system. If a seller has an automatic repricer set without knowing what they are doing they can easily drive the price into the ground without even knowing they did it. If they chase Amazon's price or get into a repricer war with another seller, a $200 item can easily be driven down to $20 in a blink of an eye without the seller even knowing it happened. It used to be a huge problem and some 'black hat' actors knew how to manipulate sellers with repricers to essentially 'steal' their inventory.

·2 years agoThat used to be the case, but is no longer the case. After the EU ruled that was an anti-Trust violation, Amazon deleted the policy on all of their sites.
There is no longer any such policy. There is a Fair Pricing Policy which suppresses listing which are above the prices on other websites, but Ebay does not appear to be a site which Amazon compares to. Amazon almost never views Ebay as a significant competitor, even in the categories which they are. That is probably because media including Books, CDs, DVDs and Collectibles are no longer important to Amazon.
I am selling on Ebay because selling collectibles on Amazon has become to hard do and the sales are too low to justify the effort. Many Ebay sellers do not realize how easy it is to list many items it is here compared to Amazon.

Drop shipping, retail arbitrage. Sellers... many international will list items for more & then purchase them on Amazon cheaper. This is called retail arbitrage and it is against eBay policies and on most of e commerce sites. It is deceitful and the customers are the ones who pay the price. If you are considering this type of selling I would re consider as you can and will be suspended for doing so. Hope this has been helpful.

·2 years agoI don't buy things on eBay I can get on Amazon, because chances are, the seller will just drop ship the stuff to me from Amazon, anyway. So far I haven't found prices for what I purchase higher here, though.

·2 years agoBuyers need to compare prices in many different venues to insure the best value for their money. No one venue will always have the lowest price every time. Prices in places like this vary as the crow flies.

·2 years agoThere are probably a lot of reasons: some people have been on eBay so long they don't know any other online platform, some will buy anywhere but Amazon although they may be doing so through a drop shipping and never realizing it. If you can figure out the consumer mindset across all the multiple factors you could write a book and be a millionaire and not have to sell on eBay.

I see the opposite on many things.
I could list quite a few things that are lower priced on ebay than Amazon and there are many things that are available on ebay that are not available on Amazon

On Amazon it is easy to sell things with UPC codes and not impossible but much harder to sell things without, this is a huge opening for ebay sellers. There are whole market segments that Amazon does not participate in, for instance used original classic vehicle parts,

As for the rest of your questions it would help to have an example.
Amazon suppresses listings for overpriced items, so sellers will avoid that. As a retailer itself, Amazon knows what many items should cost, and it also checks the prices on many items against Walmart and other mass market sites. And notifies sellers when their item is suppressed under their Fair Pricing Policy.
It costs Amazon and its FBA sellers less to ship than most Ebay sellers have to pay.
Many of those Amazon sellers are larger than Ebay sellers and pay less for NEW products.
Amazon has lost sales of many items to Amazon over the past several years - mostly NEW, In Production, Mass Market Product.
Some of those grossly overpriced sales you are seeing might be a money laundering scheme. Internet marketplace sites are used to launder money.

yesterday i saw ad on eBay for laptop hard drive 2TB ( Brand , Model , Condition , Status all what you want to say is the SAME on Amazon and the Same in our stores which is almost 60$ ) that eBay seller is listing it for 204$ plus 10$ shipping which means in total after tax around 240$ and it has great sales on it
4 times our price and Amazon price...
customers can even buy this item NEW for lower than this
All this dear and you tell me i haven't heard of comparative shopping , only if you mean it reversely that
shoppers run at the highest price not the cheapest

·1 year agoI completely agree with your post. This is the last time that I will be scammed by an Ebay seller because I will NEVER buy another item from EBay. In addition to being overcharged and on a product that was shipped to me DIRECTLY FROM AMAZON, I also bought perfume that was a counterfeit, knockoff. The seller even used the name of the manufacturer of the perfume in its listing. EBay needs to be policed.
