Why did the eBay international standard delivery charge me $41 instead of $16 for 8oz small package?
Summary: topcousa shared their experience of being overcharged by eBay's international standard delivery for a package sent to China, with unexpected charges of $41 instead of the initial $16. They expressed confusion over possible tariff charges and sought advice on how to contact eBay customer service. Other participants recommended switching to eBay International Shipping for better protection and less risk. topcousa clarified that they offer multiple shipping options and sought guidance on removing certain services, prompting further discussion on eBay's shipping programs and charges.
I shipped small package 8”x6”x4” (8oz) internationally by using eBay international standard delivery to China. It was supposed to cost me $16 for 8oz and that was what I paid when I purchased the shipping label and sent out the package on Aug 31, 2026. 2 weeks later, I was charged $41 instead of $16.
Post office Clerks always check all the packages to make sure the price and weight and size are accurate. I have a receipt from post office for that item, which shows the weight was confirmed as 8oz.
I am sure there are more cases that I can find if needed. I have the receipts from USPS to prove them. How can we contact eBay Customer service? What’s going on?
Thank you,

·1 week agoTop, your replies to Duffy, Stainless and others suggests you will not be heeding their advice; that, in my opinion, is an error.

·1 week ago · EditedStop using eBay international standard delivery. You're only opening yourself up for a lot of avoidable problems. Use eIS (eBay International Shipping) instead, and leave all the particulars and protections up to eBay.
If the shipping box you used said 8x6x4 on the bottom, do NOT use those dimensions when shipping. Those are internal dimensions, and are no longer recognized as usable with the shipping services. Use external dimensions and always ADD to the next inch to be safe.

·1 week ago@topcousa and that's the problem. STOP doing that. You are NOT helping any buyers. They will either buy or not. NOT using EIS and YOU are on the hook for Any and All issues.

OP1 week agoThank you for your reply. I was offering only USPS Ground and priority. EISD and EIS were added to my listing by eBay. How can I remove the EISD?
stainlessenginecovers
·1 week ago@topcousa EISD I believe is that 'envelope' for under $20 and just 'Trading Cards, Stamps' or something like that. What you are doing is offereing EIS and ALSO direct (YOU ship) GA and PRIORITY International, which again, puts you at risk. Stop the 'you shipping' international' and just use EIS. For Domestic, just use Ground Advantage. You don't sell anything that someone would need to pay $20 instead of $8 to get it 1 day earlier..so it only serves to confuse buyers.

·1 week agoI'm confused... I set my location to China, but in viewing three of your items picked at random, I see only USPS First Class International and Priority Mail International as options, with no eBay involvement at all:

·1 week ago@a_c_green EIS doesn't do China??; try Turkey- EIS shows and I also did a couple random.

·1 week ago · Edited@topcousa You don't offer EISD...that is a choice you make when Purchasing the Label only because it is now an eBay Program that allows you to only choose it for "USPS First Class Package/Priority Mail International" at the label stage. It is basically eBay's older International Direct program which has changed over the years (at one time you could OFFER it in Listings, but not anymore).

·1 week agoYou are correct - ebay adds the 'EISD' aka 'Ebay international standard delivery' if a seller offers USPS international shipping but doesn't use the other Ebay international shipping service - EIS aka Ebay international service? which sellers opt into.
I don't know if ebay covers the eisd like they do with the eis.
As to the price difference - we use the eisd - was the country of origin entered in the listing and auto filled when doing the label, or did you enter it on label page? - I know without country of.. it won't print label - if you entered it on label page that's why you wasn't shown real price when making listing - incomplete information.

·1 week ago@steve_stuff Ebay doesn't "add" the EISD. It is an option for a Seller at the Label stage when they are shipping International Direct regardless of eIS. The outcome is based on what service the Buyer Selects. Both International Direct Options and eIS are shown on the Shipping Screen as an option for a Buyer to choose. You can't offer eBay International Standard Delivery specifically anymore as a Shipping option for a Buyer in your Listing and was the purpose of my comment...that changed many years ago to avoid confusion with "eBay International Shipping". My Country Of Origin gets Autofilled, but i really don't forego putting it in the Listing itself so I don't have that issue. Oh yeah, and EISD and eIS are two VERY different programs and miles apart.

·1 week agoAvoid this problem and use Ebay International Shipping (EIS). You only pay to the US hub ebay charges the buyer for everything else, plus you get great seller protection if anything goes wrong.

OP1 week agoWhy should we (US sellers) pay the tariffs for other countries like China? Why does eBay charge us instead of charging them for tariffs? If the extra charge is for tariffs, they should’ve notified us before taking money from our account.
Thank you,
