Why am I receiving a package from ebay shipping supplies
I just received an email from FedEx that I am receiving an 18 pound package from eBay shipping supplies in Las vegas. I looked up the address and it just doesnt make sense. Has this happened to anyone else? Yes the tracking number is real. I have no activity that could correspond to this.

·3 years agoOn March 23rd , I received a very large FedEx 18 lb box from eBay. Labeled FREE shipping supplies. It was filled with a wonderful variety of boxes, bags, padded envelopes, tissue paper, thank you cards and packing tape. The cardboard insert indicated that this is a promotional incentive to sign up for International Shipping. It's a nice gift and starter package for anyone who is just beginning to sell on eBay and is in need of a variety of packaging items.
I did not fill out a survey, or any other marketing offer. I had opted out of International Shipping and used to be a Top Rated Seller, so I'm guessing they are trying to entice me to increase my business again.

·3 years agoThis is my first experience seeing eBay GIVE something. But of course, by using those shipping supplies, eBay gets their money back. So back to eBay never giving anything to anyone.

·3 years agoI searched this for this thread because I had a fedex message saying I had a package delivered. Just got it and it’s a lot of shipping supplies. Everything from padded envelopes to tape.

·3 years agoI just got a similar notification from FedEx via text. I was too nervous to click the link in the text so I logged into my FedEx account and there was in fact an item with the same tracking number identified as coming from Ebay Shipping Supplies in Las Vegas, 18lbs just like the OP in this thread. It's scheduled for delivery day after tomorrow. I never made a request or got any notification from Ebay regarding this.

·3 years agoWhen I open my email inbox, there is the list of emails. On the left is the name of the sender, on the right is the subject of the email. If I use the mouse to hover over the 'sender' the email address it's sent from is shown in a 'flyover' text. SO, if the sender name is "Lowe's", the subject could be, "You've won our million dollar sweepstakes", before I open that, I place the mouse over the sender name of "Lowe's" and the flyover text box will say the email is something ridiculous, like "jashgfyjegscbasdyjrgh@eemike.com" or "my own email name @ trcchikki.lives".
I check the box next to these and report them as spam. They then go automatically to my spam folder. Yahoo also gives me the option to unsubscribe. I don't do that, because then the sender gets an unsub notice from me. To a scammer, all that does is let them know it's a valid email address.
I also don't open them. Some emails can have attachments that let the sender know that emails have been opened, which also allows them to know the email is valid.
You can also forward emails like this (without opening) to the company involved, that email is usually 'spoof@companyname.com" In this case, spoof@fedex.com. If the email bounces (comes back as undeliverable) just delete it.

·3 years agoI received a package also! It is a big 18 lb. box! It states from eBay Shipping as return address. I have never gotten one before. I was Googling to try to find out why they sent it to me. I'm glad someone else got one!

·3 years agoI received the same 18 lb box today, delivered by Fed Ex from eBay Shipping Supplies in Hebron, Kentucky. For all those who are wondering, check the photo above and you can see what's inside. It's a sampler of many different eBay branded shipping supplies which include a significant amount of various padded mailers, waterproof mailers, shipping boxes, envelopes, tape, tissue paper, thank you cards and a few other odds and ends. The same card soliciting enrollment in eBay's International Shipping Program from earlier in this forum post was sealed in the plastic window on the outside of the box as well. My name and address were all correct and the only weird part was that my phone number was listed as (999)999-9999.
I do ship internationally but not through eBay's program and I recently achieved Top Rated Seller Status. As some others have theorized, my guess is eBay is sending these "gift" packages out to randomly (or not) selected sellers. Maybe it's Top Rated Sellers who get selected, maybe it's Stores that ship internationally (most sellers do not) but haven't yes enrolled in eBay's Program, who knows?
I called eBay Customer Service and they had no clue since they only deal with Account issues, but the rep said to keep the package. I also tried calling the phone number listed on the mailing label for eBay Shipping Supplies but that is a dead end with a recorded message that says, "this call cannot be completed as dialed", so I have to assume it cannot receive incoming calls. I have no definitive answers, but the package it totally legit and trackable back to eBay so this is no scam. It's a generous amount of supplies, all of which I can use. I'm going to let it sit for a few days and see if I can get a definitive answer from eBay, but it looks to be a promotional gift from them, and who doesn't like free stuff, especially when it's useful stuff? Thank you eBay!

·3 years agoI recieved one today. I have not completed any survey and didn’t get any fedex tracking. I received mostly small items mailers while I sell heavy large auto parts that can’t be mailed internationally anyway per Ebay policies.
i was like are they trying to tell me to switch product line or maybe they need to empty their warehouse and are getting rid off excess stuff?

It's nothing I signed up for but, hey, not gonna turn down free mailers, tape, etc. Most of what's included is stuff I actually use, which is great. Surprises from eBay aren't always what we want. This was a good one! 😄

I Guess Christmas came early this year.

Well I guess I stand corrected then. Just because this case has turned out legit please don't let your guard down.
I and others here have been bombarded with emails involving free drills, Ace hardware gift cards, Home depot tools, gas cards and more. We had the right to be suspicious and I don't think anyone here on the boards gave wrong advice.
You did the right thing coming here and giving us a heads up. Always be careful from clicking on links via text messages or email. Just be aware that somewhere at anytime there is a scammer waiting to make you part with your money.

There's an article there about these 18lb packages, and a couple of quotes that I'm pretty sure came from here. I've enjoyed eCommerceBytes newsletter almost since they first showed up online. They started out eBay-only but soon expanded to all venues. Good articles and generally a quick and easy read - less 'jargon', more facts.

Which program? There is the new eBay International Shipping (EIS) which is replacing the current Global Shipping Program (GSP) or the eBay International Standard Delivery (EISD). You would have thought eBay could have done a better job of naming the two programs/methods so as to avoid some confusion.
The programs are vastly different in some respects and while the EIS claims to offer better seller protection that program is also more restrictive with regards to what you can use it for and there have been some transition, from GSP to EIS, issues reported.

Hovering shows that the email is from the same place that says I have won an iPhone 14 Pro Max, and a $100 Costco-Gift-Card .

to Click on a Link and give out some personal information.
Happening a lot these days. So I am suspicious of that message.

·3 years agoIt's clearly not a scam, as the OP was on the Fedex website. Plus, someone has now confirmed that's a huge box of shipping supplies for marketing of EIS.
@wastingtime101 I'm guessing that those of us who already use EIS won't be getting it LOL.

The last time they sent out swag, it was completely unexpected & I only guessed what was in my box, b/c I had seen some posts here already. If you want whatever is being sent, you won't get it. If you don't want it, you probably will LOL.

·3 years agoYou'd think so since I put so many hours into it and helping other sellers get past some of the early day hurdles and putting together that beast of an FAQ @simply-the-best-for-you. But I'm waiting for:
1. Ability to turn off EIS at the listing and/or biz policy level without changing country exclusions (which they confirmed is being worked on) and
2. Combined shipping (which they are working on but haven't promised it will become available)
When that happens I'd consider using it for all countries where I don't ship direct on my main selling account. But since I do ship direct to a decent amount of countries I'm assuming I will not get one of these shipping supply packages.
If I got one of these supply packages I might take the bribe and sign up my other account for EIS (that account doesn't ship international) for a trial run even without combined ship and ability to turn off at the listing level.

·3 years agoThis keeps getting "curiouser and curiouser". Some say a scam, others say it's legit. If it's legit, too bad eBay doesn't notify a person about this before sending sending unsolicited emails or merchandise. I remember many years ago when eBay made sure every I was jotted and every T was crossed so their customers wouldn't have to guess about things or be left in the dark. Seems like those days have been eroded and replaced with unsolicited surprises -- IF this is all legitimate.

it is full of packaging material ... padded envelopes in 2 sizes , cardboard mailers, small cardboard boxes .. ebay tape (6 rolls) .. stickers - 3 varieties ... thank you postcards .. ebay tissue paper ..
it is to encourage sellers to ship international ... tho none appears to be marked "international only"
the box is big and pretty dang full 🙂

When I buy eBay supplies, it is just when you buy on eBay. There are no e-mails. Just tracking /status of what you bought.
Our information is being sold at a ridiculous rare these days for scammers. The less apps and website accounts you have, the better.

·3 years agoGood heavens! There's no clue in the "FedEx" email I got. Usually there are some misspellings or bad English to give you a heads up. This one showed up in my inbox with only the nagging idea that there shouldn't be any package coming...

There is no package coming, only there might be an attempt to deliver notice coming thru, that's when they want info. Don't open anything, dangerous links will be included.

It reminds me of a time when I was a 4-year-old not getting any sleep on Christmas Eve, hoping Santa would get me a sled for Christmas... He never did... my first experience with a Santa Delivery scam...

That is a scam called smishing.
Do not open any more emails, no clicking on links, report it to FedEx also. This scam is making it's rounds again and it can fool someone into giving out personal information.

Just confirming that you went to the FedEx website by typing fedex.com into your browser's address bar--not through any links in the email, right?
There's not a tracking number on the snippet you posted. How did you find information on this package on the FedEx site?

This'll blow your mind, @theteamsetguy. I got that 18# box today, too. Well... not addressed to me, but to my daughter. She is an avid buyer here but doesn't even sell... hasn't since flipping her toddler's wardrobe well over a decade ago.
I think I conjured it up when I finally posted - "I envy you." 🤤 - on a similar thread posted earlier today.
About a New York minute after I hit 'Reply', my daughter texted... "Did u send me some boxes?" 😲
I consider myself lucky, grateful and quite possibly magic. And I stand a full inch taller now that I'm off my knees. ðŸ™

Here's one even odder... I read on a similar thread from a seller here (who also hadn't received supplies) that her sister had received the 18# box. The poster's sister hadn't ever even bought or sold on eBay and the worry was, "Where did eBay get her address?" The poster's sister (just like my daughter) had received no advance notice it was coming.
That poor poster was 1,500 miles from her sister. I only have to travel 15 miles to pick up my daughter's goodies. 🙂

·3 years agoI got the same FedEx message today for an 18 lb package from eBay Shipping Supplies, 1081 Aviation Blvd, Hebron, KY, US, 41048 . I don't do international sales. I didn't attend any eBay event. I can't think of any package that I should be getting - return or otherwise. Although the number tracks through FedEx, I'm always suspicious when I get strange emails. The message says the package is to arrive Monday in Michigan. Very weird that we both got the same message and can't think of any reason why we should be getting a package. Thanks for posting.

·3 years agoMy vote is an international return or item that could not be delivered. The 105-107 suites at that address are currently rented by a logistics business with ties to Hebron KY, a stones throw from Erlanger. Never pay attention to the weight of packages from FedEx or UPS. They have reality check issues.

Dimensions 24x16x16 in.
the item I sold internationally was about 5 by 5 by 4 inches so I cant see it being returned in a box that large

OP3 years agoI resist international sales, perhaps they are trying to encourage me by sending supplies to sell internationally, that would explain the international shipping description in the invoice field

·3 years agoSame here. Sometimes international shipping is a hassle. Ebay sent me a huge box a couple days ago full of ebay branded mailers, boxes, tape, stickers, etc.. and there was a message encouraging international selling, which I recently opted out of. There isn't anything on the mailers that indicates international shipping, so I assume the supplies can be used for any sale. Ebay didn't let me know they were sending the stuff, though, so now I have to find somewhere to store it all, because I already have a ton of shipping supplies. Not that I'm complaining, definitely cool. Was just odd to receive it out of the blue.

·3 years agoHmmm, I did go to the event & got the supplies & they were nowhere near 18lbs. It was just a smallish sample pack.
Ebay does occasionally send out swag as thank you's to long time sellers. That could conceivably be in the form of shipping supplies, though I personally haven't seen it.
You'll have to let us know when you get the pkg. If they legit ARE shipping supplies, they could easily weigh 18lbs.

·3 years agoThat 'invoice number' and 'reference' look a lot like you are getting a return from an international sale? The eBay Shipping Supplies could just be from someone selecting the wrong account to generate the label thru... it is eBay after all.
Maybe it's the missing evidence from that lab in Wuhan, China!! You could be famous!! Unless the package handlers between here and there damaged the contents... then you could be.come very sick. But still famous!!

PS: at work, we get packages headed to a local returns center for a massive national online business. We've called them time and again -- they say thank you, just keep it - we can't resell it anyway. So we've stopped even calling - they've made their position very clear and it's fun to have a drawing among the employees to see who gets to open it and has the option to keep it or give it to someone else! Ya gotta make the best of an annoying situation!

OP3 years agoI checked my international sales and I only have one and the item only weighed about 10 ounces not 18 pounds. Also I never got a case opened against me

BUT
If the sender's address is not US based, FedEx might try to charge you import fees, even though Americans have a duty free allowance of $800.
And the carrier on the doorstep may not charge it, you get a bill in the mail later.
FedEx is evil.
