Where does eBay even get its EDD's??
Summary: gurlcat shared an experience on eBay where they purchased multiple items from a seller, each with different estimated delivery dates despite the same origin and destination. iamalwaysright and others joined the discussion, noting similar issues with eBay's delivery estimations, and questioning how eBay determines these dates. stephenmorgan suggested differences in handling times might be a factor, but gurlcat clarified that handling times were consistent. Some participants speculated about regional differences or system errors, while others shared personal experiences with inaccurate delivery predictions.
I always advise doing some buying on eBay to get the full picture of what buyers see and experience here. Today I have a fun example of how eBay can drive your buyers bonkers without you doing anything wrong and without your knowledge. I purchased 3 big junk lots from the same seller last night, and she had them all picked up today. USPS estimate delivery date is Wednesday for all of them (if that seems unreasonable, the seller is in Birmingham and I'm in Mobile, both hub cities in the same state, so it's totally doable).
But eBay, go home Sweetie, you're drunk.

路2 weeks agoI read about this issue on these forums. I only buy and all the estimated delivery dates I receive are usually spot on. Alot of times I get a package a day or so early.
I wonder if it's a regional thing? I seem to get them early when the seller is far from me.
I'm so used to getting my packages on time I rarely look at tracking anymore.
Guess I'm lucky in that regard........................

OP2 weeks agoI'm actually not concerned with how soon or how realistic the dates are, just how disparate they are for 3 packages with the exact same trajectory as far as USPS is concerned. -Supposedly eBay gets its EDD from the carrier (I don't mean what buyers see before they purchase; that is definitely eBay making its own predictions) -I'm talking about after the first scan, when the carrier makes a solid in-house estimation. eBay is supposed to mirror that. So why they showed such wildly different dates on these 3 packages, I can't imagine.

A mystery to me.

路2 weeks agoI posted on this the other day. eBay is giving my buyers dates that are physically impossible, even if I shipped at the moment of sale.

路2 weeks ago 路 EditedCome back and let us know when and how many times ebay ends up pushing your delivery date back during transit. I used to have that happen to me a lot. Ebay would give my buyers ridiculously short ETAs then like every 1-2 days after dropping it off the buyer would get notifications that his ETA has been changed and pushed back. I think the most I've ever seen one of my buyers experience this on their shipment was 3 ETA pushback changes on the same package. A few of the buyers accused me (the seller) for pushing back their ETA so often.

路2 weeks agoI have noticed that a time spread will be shown that if you mail item same day then item is estimated to arrive on date XXX. I you have a handling time then item is estimated to arrive by date XXX. When tracking number is entered then a better estimated date is shown but when item is accepted by shipper then the most accurate date is estimated and is changed.
I wonder if your seller had different handling times for each item and that caused the different estimated delivery dates?

OP2 weeks agoGood question. I checked and she had the same handling time on all of them. But even if she hadn't, like you say the identical pickup scans should have made them all the same for eBay's display.
Which is why I titled this as I did. -If not USPS own horse's mouth, where DID these come from?
