What's whackiest reason you had for a NAD?
Recently sold 2 bottles of Hawaiian body lotion, two different scents.
Seller filed a "missing parts or pieces" return.
Reason: hi . i receive the order today but it have missing 1 item. I wanted to have the missing 1 item . thankyou"
Of course I shipped her 2 bottles, the 2 she ordered.
I just accepted the return.
Who knows what I'll get back?

·3 years agoYears ago, one of my buyers opened up a "not as described" case on a book which they had previously purchased from me.
Reason? The ending in the book was significantly different from the ending in the movie adaptation of the book.
Where is H. L. Mencken would you need him?

My friend went to a KFC and asked:

·3 years agoThere was a thread about this in 2018 when it happened...
NAD because Egypt 1 Pound 1980 silver coin does not weigh 1 pound, it only weighs a fraction of an ounce. He actually sent my coin back (he even paid for a stamp and dropped it in the mail). I was very surprised to receive my coin back.

·3 years agoSomeone in the group said "your buyer is too stupid to buy coins". I really thought the whole thing was a scam to get a free coin. That's why I was so surprised he sent it back. (He didn't file an actual NAD just shot his mouth off in a message and I told him to do a return if he doesn't like the coin, and a few weeks later the coin showed up in the mail, so I refunded him).
I have another one...
Guy buys a silver PLATED token. He wants to be sure, is it really silver plated? Yes, it's plated. It's not solid silver, it's electroplated. He goes and gets it tested and finds out only 1% is silver (which is normal for thin electroplating, when you get 30% it's still plated, but thicker plating). He returns it because there's not enough silver in the token. I make sure when specifying on plating on some stuff that I point out that plating is a very small amount of silver (like 1%). He got exactly what he was looking for, so I don't understand why the return on that one. It was $50 too because it was a scarce Canadian medallion. I don't know of any solid silver versions of this.

·3 years agoI do calculated shipping so I usually take a photo of the item on a scale. I have started putting the photo in the listing now since we have 24 photos. Not that the buyer is required to look at photos to stop an INAD.

·3 years agoI do that with ambiguous medallions that I had tested with the coin shop's XRF machine, but on the Egypt 1 Pound 1980 coin, the online catalogue will provide those specs. I did give him a link to the catalogue and said "this is what you purchased".
No one in my inner circle believed that guy was for real.

·3 years agoI think sometimes it can be a misunderstanding due to language or country. I have had a couple of buyers purchase a sewing pattern and ask me where the fabric is to make the item. Both were from Eastern European countries so it may be that in their country they sell patterns with the fabric included. Even though I never mentioned fabric being included in my listings.

·3 years agoI guess my favorites are the messages letting me know something is broken....and....
"Hey, this item is broken, and it's dirty, and it's scuffed, and it's noisy when it's running, and the paint is fading"
If there's an issue, no problem, I'll take care of it.
But when you get a message like that? Makes a person wonder....🤣

·3 years agoI call that "PhD-ing it" (Piling it high and deep) - I used to have people do that when they were trying to cheapen my merchandise so they could make a very lowball offer, or ask me if I would sell it "for considerably less" - it has been a while.
ETA: Oh, I'll leave it at that.

·3 years agoI've been buying from and selling to the public for almost 50 years. I always
laugh to myself the "Buyer" that disparages the quality of something I have for
sale. But, They still want it.
They go along with the "Buyer" that claims my competition is offering a better price on an item
I'm selling. When I tell them to go to my competitor, They tell me......
"Well, He doesn't have any"

·3 years agoI had a new in box pair of shoes with black marker on the bottom. It looked worse in the pictures. There were $70 retail, I listed for $35. Someone offered something like $10 'because of the goo on the bottom'. It wasn't goo, and it was on the bottom, it would probably wear off in a week of use. I declined , and they sold in a week.

·3 years agoI had a not as described return once as well as a heavily worded negative feedback with several cuss words that stated "the candy you sold me was individually wrapped and it fell on the floor when I went to unwrap one". I was somehow responsible for knocking the candy out of her hand and had zero clue what them being individually wrapped had to do with it.

·3 years agoA famous one from years back was the women who tried to bill a seller because one of her fake fingernails broke when she opened the package. She included a photo of the broken fingernail. She wanted $5 if I recall. Honestly, if you're going to come up with a dog of a story like that, at least don't be cheap on top of it.

·3 years agoI had that happen to me too! A few years ago I sold a group of 4 Elf on the Shelf Plushee Pals to a man that was getting them as gifts. They arrived before Christmas and he was mad he paid more than what was on the price tag. I told him to return for a refund. Of course he knew he couldn't get them before Christmas, so he didn't return them. He did keep messaging me, harassing me for charging more than the store. If he only knew that I had purchased them for half of the price tag I stupidly left on! Never again!!

·3 years agoNot as funny or silly as most of these but if you sell books and media on Amazon you will rack up the returns for "no longer wanted/needed", as in they watched the DVD or copied the textbook, or "bought by mistake", must have been the bird. Then of course an objection to the CONTENT of the book. It has gotten out of control no doubt due to people on the internet giving instructions on how to rip off "Amazon" and we small sellers getting caught in the buzzsaw.

·3 years agoWell, let's see.
I sold a bunch of full shield face masks, years before COVID. I think they were for welding, but they weren't tinted at all. They were crystal clear. The listing said the manufacturer ships these with a static piece of plastic applied to both sides to protect against scratches. Got a SNAD for the shield being impossible to see through clearly. I immediately sent the buyer a message letting them know to just take the plastic off. I never heard back, and approved the return hours before it would have timed out and given me a defect. They sent it back, perhaps never reading my message. 🤦 They even left a negative feedback, which luckily I got eBay to remove.
I had a refund fisher buy a $350 set of brand new Logitech speakers, and claim they arrived with a hole in the side and that they weren't working. The buyer said they opened the speakers and found a dead rat inside, with the speakers packed with rat #1 and #2. Gave a prepaid return label, and buyer wound up saying USPS wouldn't let him ship it back due to being a biohazard. 😠Buyer refused to send photos. eBay usually requires sellers to just refund buyers for items that are not allowed to be sent back (hazmat.) Buyer demanded a refund, and said they'd just throw it out. After a phone call that was about an hour long, I got a supervisor who was sympathetic and saying she didn't believe him either but her hands were tied by policy to close the case as altered after I realized the buyer would have had to cut the warranty void if removed sticker to get inside the speaker. Never heard from him again, and no chargeback.

No bright, colorful, distracting background, no dancing monkeys in the background, and no full page Novel about how big and great we are.
Had a message yesterday wanting to know what the damage was? (DAMAGED) was the 1st word of the title.
I sent him a link back to the listing so he could read it or look at the highlighted pics.
Had a message awhile back......."How are you listed on eBay so that I can find your items?"

·3 years agoThe doozies. LOL. That's great. I don't have many NAD's but I have gotten quite a few other weird experiences relayed to me, I guess because of what I sell. Like the customer who's font was broken by an "entity" that flung it across the room. Someone asked me how to get the demon out of their house. The craziest one was the feedback thanking me for a product because their "dead brother and sister stopped them from going to see their 80 yo mother." All things that made me go HUH. I think my fave was the guy who purchased a holy water bottle. He said it was the perfect way to hide his spirits (Vodka). Retail can be entertaining too.

·3 years agoMy most recent SNAD was over color too. They were angry my lights weren't amber like the ones they owned that quit working. They claimed in the return they were supposed to be amber even though I had 8 photos showing they were white/clear and the item specs had clear as the color. They even sent me a photo showing what they received (looked just like my photo) and wanted me to send the correct ones and they didn't want to argue about it. okey dokey
movieman630
·3 years agoAlso It's not the wacky ones that get to me. It's the straight up liars. People who intentionally force a return by lying about the reason. They're rare but when you get one it really gets you. Just not fair that it counts against us when we did everything right.
Last one I got hurt even more considering they asked me to do something that wasn't promised in the description. I bent over backwards to make them happy. They were a miserable liar after they got it.
Do yourself a favor. As soon as someone asks you to do something extra before they buy, just BLOCK THEM immediately. It's not going to turn out the way you think. At least do some recon and read their feedback. I should have done that last time. The guy was a serial negative leaver and has a reputation as a "thief" in their feedback. Could have saved me money and a headache.
movieman630
·3 years agoI don' t know how wacky it is but I notice it's when people obviously didn't even bother to read the description or look at the photo. They "assume" something in their imagination when they read the title and buy.
I had a guy buy a part for a vehicle called a Studebaker Commander which is what it says in the title - "1950 Studebaker Commander Tie Rod Ends, Pair ~ ES-171"
He left me negative feedback saying "Seller should have did more research on part. Stated it would fit a 1950 Studebaker Champion which it cannot. Let buyer beware."
Now I know they both begin with "C" but come on... Just READ!
If you do this kind of work long enough you will get a very low opinion of the masses. Or you will just end up an 80 year old hoarder who talks to their cats because you'd rather talk to cats then people. Ha ha!

This was a while ago but had a few people who bought my vhs movies when they wanted DVDs. ·3 years agoI sold a belt buckle and had a ruler showing the part of the buckle that the belt would fit through. The buyer messaged back with a picture of a micrometer held up to it. Seems my ruler was not accurate up to .01" so it was too big and not as described.

·3 years agoIt's guys like them that is the reason I won't usually provide measurements when someone asks. I know the "micrometer" guy exists. I'm not playing that game. In the parts business we get that a lot. They usually start with... "I don't have the vehicle you have this advertised for but it LOOKS like the one that's on my car. Can you measure...."
A lot of parts LOOK alike. The physiology of a vehicle is similar. All wheels are round. Doesn't mean they'll fit every vehicle! People man.

·3 years agoI sold a vintage belt that buckled in the back, and had a metal decorative pendant on the front. I put CLEAR instructions in description that this belt closed in back, and included it this on the photos. Once the buyer received it, she admitted to pulling the pendant off while trying to "open the buckle" she even sent pictures of the item once she pulled the pendant off. Before I could call eBay to try and explain and show pictures, they refunded her money, even though she admitted to tearing it up. eBay stated that due to new policies, once they refunded buyer and case was closed (though I never got a chance to explain what happened) they could not reverse the refund. They DID take down the negative comment that belt was NAD, however I lost not only the $ from the sale, but buyer wound up with item, and I'm sure with a little super glue, she was able to glue the emblem back on to buckle. UGH, eBay's policies change like the wind.

·3 years agoSold a vintage craftsman router recently. The buyer after 3 days, opens a return for NAD. They said the "red ring was impossible to turn". When I got it back, it worked fine. The buyer was not knowledgeable enough of tools or routers, to realize there is a SET KNOB to lock the ring so it doesn't go out of the setting when in use.
A stupid mistake that could have easily been fixed with a message to seller. Easier fix would be to either have knowledge of the tools you want to use, YouTube it, or look for a FREE manual online.
But hey, it only cost me 40 bucks round trip because the buyer wasn't smart enough to run the tool they bought...... Why would you buy a vintage tool if you have no idea how to use it? Whacky? Um yeah.
