what's up with ebay's auto pay gracing buyers more time to pay
i have never had a buyer use autopay.
buyer purchased an item last sunday & as of today it is 7 days over due.
however following his auction purchase i received a message " buyer wants more time to shop. auto pay scheduled. for 8/3 at 7pm pdt or 10 est (my time) TONIGHT.
i wait until `10:30 no payment.
i tried canceling after 5 days but BUYER HAS NOT PAID was not an option therefore you're forced to wait.
1/2 hour after tonight's deadline justas I'm about to cancel the order assuming the buyer had not paid was now optional but nowthe original autopay message is replaced with "the buyer has until tomorrow 8/4 to pay."
the buyer will now have 8 days to pay & i do not know when Monday ican cancel.
start of business? or after midnight?
i spoke to an ebay rep who had no idea why.

·1 year agoI don't really mind it as even with the 1 week the autopay did in fact work. I sell very little on auction so it does not affect me much.
What I don't like is from the buying side. It does not give me an option to use my managed payment funds from being a seller to pay for an auction. Has to be a debit/credit card or when setting to PayPal they don't have the account balance option. Just the cards linked to the PayPal acct.

Yes, the link does tell you how IF you received the invitation email. Did you get such an email? If you are unsure or might have missed it, I'd suggest contacting Ebay for further instructions.
On each Ebay page there is a link to contact Customer Service at the top of the page and again at the bottom of the page.
I would suggest that you contact Ebay for Business on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter for the better trained CSRs.
Here are your options for contacting Ebay Customer Service. Please be aware that for social media CS, you send them a Private Message and briefly explain what your problem or issue is. Feel free to leave your Name, address, phone number and/or your email address in this message. It is private and secure and it may help to speed up the response for you.

Your options will be on the left. If you use the link below you can only get to the Automated Assistant or Chat box type AGENT in the box and hit enter. You will then get more options. Not all options are available 24/7. It will depend on staffing available. So sometimes you can request a call back and sometimes you can't. Sometimes you have the Chat option available and other times it won't me. If it is important to you to use one of those options, just try back later.
If you use a cell phone or other mobile device, you may need to turn off your Spam filter so that Ebay can call you.
If you are a seller outside of the US or Canada, you will need to use the Chat Option.

By message you mean it was noted in the 'action' column on the sold ... I mean order page, right.
Every one of our 'auto paid in week' had that note but none had the 'or XX est' part.

OP1 year agoI know that but this is absurd . you as the seller should have the right to cancel any order after the 5 day grace period. auto pay or not. otherwise the buyer holds your unpaid item as hostage until they pay for it. IF they pay for it. eBay DOES NOT KNOW why there is NO OPTION to do this. Ebay has NO ANSWER as to why the auto pay message changed from a decline of last night at 10pm MY TIME to now TODAY sometime. This is ridiculous. The buyer enlists auto pay and is further graced another day. The items remains unpaid for 8 days 7 THE WORST PART? the buyers a SELLER who does not respond to messages.

If you don't want this to happen to you again, you have to turn off the "Buyer Rules" that initiates the "auto-pay" system (at least for auctions). Then YOU can decide how long the buyer has to pay instead of eBay. You will then be allowed to send invoices/combine shipping once again.

Though originally imposed to cut down on a non-paying buyers (in lieu of sanctioning buyers that didn't follow the rules and pay) eBay came up with this convoluted plan. Indeed, it likely did more to discourage PAYING buyers. It did not take long for buyers to realize that when a payment source was required to proceed, they would be billed separately for each item at full shipping cost. Why win ten auctions that had a shipping cost of $6 each, and pay $60 in shipping for a parcel that would accommodate all ten items in a package that weighed less than 6 ounces? Buyers see the "payment method screen" and simply go someplace else where it is not required. So eBay is now allowing some buyers to extend their time whether the seller wants it or not.
If you do not wish to combine items from the same buyer, just make all your items fixed price and immediate payment required. You buyers will again have to pay separately for each item immediately. You cannot combine fixed price items in your cart anyway if at least ONE of them has 'free shipping' and the rest don't.

What is absurd is to expect Ebay to not have any tools that sellers can use if it doesn't work for you. This is a very good option for sellers that have buyers that regularly purchase multiple auctions.
If you are unsure how to NOT have this option. Just read through the link I gave you earlier to help.

·1 year agoYou are mistaken. My Buyer Rules are set to NOT (unchecked) "Require buyers to provide a payment method before they place a bid", and I do not have Combined shipping set up in Shipping Preferences, just the option checked to "Allow buyers to manually request an invoice for you to provide a discount." As such, per the link you keep posting for people, buyers should not be required to autopay, nor be able to invoke the 7 day autopay feature. But they can, and do, despite the announcement you link indicating this would only apply to accounts with autopay required. So it's not working as advertised, and it is a problem for those of us who run auctions. There are many reasons to run auctions instead of fixed price, so telling people to list fixed price instead is not a solution.

On your listings, just below the price on the right side of the Auction, there is a little ICON you can click on it. It is a circle with an "i" in it. What its says is as follows:

·1 year agoThis was a good article worth reading and apparently it only applies to certain sellers. I've been experimenting with auctions lately, but have been wanting to make sure they end and are paid before we'll be out of town for a week.
Last night a couple auctions ended and one of them had the "Buyer wants more time to shop. Auto pay scheduled for (7 days from now)" on the order page, but it also said buyer can pay earlier, and thankfully they did, so it's not an issue.
However, the article is not quite correct as I don't think the seller can turn this off exactly as indicated.

So something is going on we don't totally understand yet or it isn't not quite working as advertised.

·1 year agoYou are correct, it is NOT represented in the Buyer Requirements, so no you can't go there and turn it off.
It applies when a seller offers combined shipping and there are a few ways of doing that. So if you don't want the 7 day option, then make sure you don't offer Combined shipping anywhere in your set up.

Keep in mind that the 7 day option encourages buyers to purchase other auctions too, not just one.
