WHATS UP WITH BUYERS NOT LEAVING FEED BACK ANYMORE
Seems like buyers don't want to leave feedback much anymore. I sell a quality item for a very fair price, offer free expedited shipping, they usually get very fast. Seems like since i offered free shipping, and 30 money back, these people don't seem to want to leave feedback. But they want feedback. Dont want to even ask the buyer anymore. One Jack >>>> i asked if he liked the item would he mind leaving feedback. Didn't hear back from him, so i thought he didn't see message. Two weeks later I asked one more time if he could leave feedback if he liked the item, it helps me out, i would appreciate it. I looked at my reviews, and saw he left one under a positive review, this is what his review was (I'm leaving feedback, so seller stops asking me to leave feedback) I don't know what his problem was, i gave him a very good deal on the item and he got it in 3 days after buying it. I took it to the post office the next day so i could get it to him fast. A decent person might just message me back and just say i don't want to leave feedback, instead he had to say something sarcastic. Sometimes i forget to leave feedback, a seller will message me and i leave feedback for them. Its funny because the same people that don't leave feedback, want feedback for buying so they have a good record. I guess i won't ask anymore, don't know what people now days are going to say. All the years i have been on Ebay this guy really shocked me.

·1 year agoThis thread is old, but the only open one I could find about the subject.
I used to wrestle with this as a seller. I finally gave up and just started putting "We leave reciprocal feedback" in the footer of each item for sale.
If feedback is important to them, you get feedback, if not you don't. It saves on a potential negative feedback if they feel you are fishing for compliments.
One seller goes as far as calling you on the phone for it. (I won't mention names). He recieved negative feed back from me for spamming my phone.
As others have said, I don't think feedback is the driver anymore. Personally I look at the date the person's account was opened on, and any potential negative feedback, which I judge on the merit of the complaint.
There are alot of people out there that leave negative feedback for issues completly out of the seller's hands.
So no news is good news. 😊

·3 years agoI leave feedback when I ship, thanking my customer and telling them that their item is on its way. If I purchase something here, I leave feedback. I'm always delighted when someone leaves FB for me, but prefer to make the decision independent of what someone else does.

·3 years agoRegarding feedback, this is my policy: as a seller, I almost always leave feedback for you; always unprompted. As a buyer, I leave feedback for once I see you leave it for me. One seller got snippy with me after he requested I leave feedback for him (he had not left any for me) and I said the above. He Essentially saying "why would I do that?" OK pal, I said to myself, if you are so clueless....

OP3 years agoAs a seller, i give feedback almost always after they a buyer pays. and send him a thankyou message and tell them i will get item to post office next the next day. Then when they get item i ask how they like it. And most will say they love it. Seems like since i offered free shipping, the last six in a row, didn't leave feedback. So, one that said it was fine, I waited 2 weeks no feedback, so i messaged him and asked very politely since you like your laptop, i would appreciate good feedback if you wouldn't mind. He bought it on the 27th and received it on the 30th. I should have let it go. 2 weeks later asked again very politely. I looked at my reviews and he left under positive. I'm leaving feedback so seller will stop messaging me. Ebay did take it off. But I'm done leaving feedback, and done shipping the next day, i will wait 2 days like everyone else does. And won't ask if they like it. Its business no more being friendly and offering computer support. I learned a very good lesson. One guy even asked me to build him one with certain specifications and list it. Once i did that, i messaged him and no response. No mo

·3 years agoWhile a seller should not get "snippy" with you as that was just totally inappropriate, you need to remember this is a voluntary program. You may feel it is a necessary thing, but not everyone does. And there is no penalty for any member that chooses not to leave FB.
My policy is I do not leave FB for a buyer until after they leave FB for me, however if a buyer were to contact me asking for me to post FB for them, I apologize for my delay and post their FB in short order.

rail322012
OP3 years agoIn your case you have very high feedback, this didn't happen overnight, it took years to get the high feedback you have. What if you sold 4,000 items and didn't get feedback on any of them. I think you would start asking to get feedback, so you can become the high seller that you are. This is what i notice. When you're a sell a laptop, it does mean something. Sellers with high selling volume, and good reviews get much more exposure than a low volume seller with not as many reviews. Specially in the computer industry. (for example, you did a search on eBay for dell laptops) look at the outcome. You will see sellers with 20,000 or 1000 items sold and their reviews. Ebay promotes them automatically. While the little guy with 50 sales will be at the bottom of maybe 5 pages through listings. And in the case of the little guy selling, he has to promote his items to at least 10 percent to get that kind of exposure. But if you serch for a specific item, say a dell d830 and that is what your selling you have a better chance of exposure. i see it all the time. Im not willing to pay ebay 14 percent fees, then tack on an extra 10 percent, so they can take 24 percent of the item i sell. Now if you are selling a shirt for 10 dollars and ebay takes out 14 percent you might pay 1.40 in fees. Now when you sell a 300.00 laptop and they take out 14 percent after they add the buyers' taxes are added on top of your sale, then take almost 50.00 for a sale this is a big difference. Especially when you have to purchase the laptop, fix it up, put new equipment, spend at least 6 hours installing system, programs, updating, finding drivers to get it ready for sale, the profit isn't much. So if the little guy gets more feedback his number increases, and maybe not now but in the future you can get more exposure because of more reviews you have. That is my take on getting more reviews. And since i have never had a complaint, or even one of my laptops sent back, that means the buyer likes it. Believe me if they didnt like it with a 30 day money back policy i have, i would get complaints. Thats my intake on getting reviews. What is the harm in asking for a review if the buyer didn't give you one, but you gave him one. As long as you dont constantly bug them. Just one message shouldn't be bothering. Because when you're selling a laptop, you might get 10 messages asking questions. So if i send one message asking how he or she likes the computer, and if they do can they leave feedback I cant see that is harassing anyone. One guy sent me over 20 messages asking questions about the laptop. He finally bought it. I didn't ship it yet. He said he saw something else, can he cancel the order. I didn't like it but i let him cancel, although once you pay it is supposed to be a binding contract. So the same buyer can send you 10 messages, but you send one message and they dont like it?????

buyselljack2016
·3 years ago@oldschool718
we hear this automatic feedback thing from time to time.
Firstly there is a flaw in your "time frame". Unless something has changed, time to leave feedback is 60 days, so even if something as foolish as auto feedback was instituted, it would not be in "30 days".
What about buyers. Should they also not get this "automatic feedback".
Has been posted before. If an "auto seller positive after xxx days policy" was instituted some buyers that just left nothing when the transaction was "somewhat less that positive" may then decide to not give that seller a chance to reap an "automatic positive". They would express their opinion on the "less than positive" experience.

maxine*j
·3 years agoWell, it's voluntary and everyone has his own take on it.
As a seller, I leave feedback upon payment. It's just as quick and easy way to say "thank you," as I did at the counter of a brick-and-mortar when someone bought something. And I don't anticipate trouble with any transaction, figuring I'll deal with any problems when and if they arise.

OP3 years agoI also send a message with my and tell the buyers if they have problems or have general computer questions, they can message me, and if i have also will give them my phone number so i can talk them through their computer problems .So far i have i have talked to over 10 of my buyers, sometimes talking on the phone for an hour, if they are having problems installing a program, or if they are having Wi-Fi issues. There aren't many sellers that will do that. You have a lot of feedback. Don't tell me that you don't want it. As i said building computers is different than selling clothes, or other items you don't have to refurbish. My feedback is important because i have to use my skills as a computer builder, and if your good at it, and your customers are happy with the purchase, then more people are going to buy from you. Not one person has ever sent a laptop back. Some people say they have no time for feedback, but they can spend hours looking for something, but can't take a minute to give feedback. I have done the same thing, i forgot to leave feedback, a seller would contact me, and ask for feedback. Not once have i got mad at that. I immediately gave them good feedback. All this guy had to do was message me back and say i don't want to leave feedback. Instead, he had to be sarcastic. And i think that is out of line, with the services i provide .

OP3 years agoI don't beg for feedback. I contact every buyer after a week, and i ask them if their laptop is running well. Because i have a 30-day money back, and this guy said it was running fine. I was very polite, and i think it's a harmless question since he already said he like it. And i think if someone likes the product , and would leave sarcastic feedback because you asked for feedback is messed up. Ebay thought this guy was out of line to leave feedback like that. This is the message i got from ebay

·3 years agoI don't want to raise a problem where none may exist, but: Do you have the rights to the songs? If you do not, you may find a cranky buyer who will report you to the copyright holders directly or to one of the PROs, like BMI, ASCAP, SESAC.
That you are not selling the DVD might not be a defense, because you are using it for advertising and promotion.
Just something to look into, I'd say, for your own peace of mind.

spark-chaser1
·3 years agoWhat Maxine says is absolutely correct. Buying a CD grants you a license to play THAT ONE CD for your own private use.You can't copy it, play it at public events, period. Anything outside of your own use requires licensing, and its not cheap in many cases.
You own the physical CD, but none of the rights to ANY of the music on it. Read about copyright infringement cases... People have been sued for millions of dollars for making the mistake of duplicating/ distributing copyrighted material.
The FBI has a warning on every CD, DVD. They mean what they say. It is piracy.
maxine*j
·3 years agoOf course is is a promotional item. You are sending it to build goodwill for your business, not sharing it with a friend.
And I didn't say it's "a big deal." I said it's something you may care to look into. It was friendly advice, to take or leave.
By the way, we played music in all our brick-and-mortars, and we always paid BMI for the right to do so. We were playing the music for commercial purposes, after all, to create a particular ambiance in the stores.
-
spark-chaser1
·3 years agoQuite honestly, it actually is avery big deal. The music industry fights copyright infringement aggressively. There are many cases that have been as simple as what is going on here that have resulted in million- plus dollar lawsuits per song. In this case, 900 on one CD. How many CDs made to date?
Believe me, what may not seem like a big deal can become one if any recipient of one of these CDs decides to make it one.
Feedback will be the least of the OPs worries. The OP needs to do some research ASAP.
maxine*j
·3 years agoWell, actually, I think it's a big deal, too. but OP seemed so upset with me that I was trying to back off a bit by simply reiterating my first post, that she should look into the matter.
In our first brick-and-mortar, decades ago, we played taped music, very softly. A customer came in who happened to be a musician. He educated us, fast and firmly, and forever after we paid BMI an annual amount for the rights to any music we played. At that time (and still, I imagine) BMI based its rates for this "public performance" of copyright music on things like the square footage of the store, sales per square foot, etc.

First, it was a one-off purchase. I would likely never find myself needing to buy from this seller again and not like I'd go out of my way to buy from them again. So this coupon was kinda silly for me anyways.
The message and program of coupon for feedback made me feel like a dirty (prostitute). I left a "ðŸ‘" feedback and my coupon showed up immediately. Just a little explanation so we make sure nothing is misunderstood as certain words have meaning on Ebay.
FB or Feedback is what a member will leave for another seller.
A Review is about the PRODUCT, not the transaction or specific seller.
So they are two completely different things done on different screens.

·3 years ago@rail322012
Count your blessings, you got EXTREMELY lucky. That buyer could have easily made that a neutral or even a negative. As a seller you should NEVER send out reminders for buyers to leave FB. That is a horrible idea and at some point it will backfire on you and you will end up with some FB you don't want.
Ebay sends out reminder emails for buyers to leave Feedback. A long time ago I got a negative FB on my one of my other accounts because they did not appreciate the reminders. Ebay would not remove the negative.
You have enough FB that you should be fine. I respect that you feel you have earned more and want the buyers to leave the FB. But you need to remember it is a voluntary program NOT a requirement.
I too have a buyer every now and again write me and ask for me to leave FB on their account. I just apologize to them for my delay and leave the FB. It isn't a big deal. For me I only have about 25% or less of my buyers leaving FB. I simply don't worry about it because I have plenty.
But for new or newer sellers I can see this as a real issue. Because often these are the same sellers that get targeted by scamming buyers because they know they are inexperienced and might be able to get something past them that they can't with a seasoned seller. Sadly it is often true. But still I would never recommend, even to new sellers to solicit buyers to leave FB.
You could however put a thank you note in with all your shipments, thanking them for their purchase and let them know you will be leaving FB on their account and would appreciate if they would take a moment and leave FB for you.
Buyers mostly look to purchase something, receive it and move on. On Amazon, I don't even get 1 FB out of 100 shipments. What is worse is Amazon counts is as lifetime numbers. If you get a negative, it follows you forever and the percentage can really tank because very few buyers leave FB.
I've been lobbying Ebay to move in the direction of Etsy and Amazon which no longer have Buyer FB and haven't for years. Seller FB is important, but buyer FB just isn't.
mrbios_calf_usa
·3 years agoI'm 55 and I used to leave detailed feedback for everything on ebay but on sites like Amazon where vendors need to purchase fake likes and reviews to be listed at the top of the page my "real review" gets buried. I see electronics products with 5 to 15K reviews! Also, many amazon vendors include a coupon or even cash rebate for leaving a "5 star review". Ebay vendors sometimes overdue it with auto generated review requests and what you experience is largely the result. Also, no-fault returns on Amazon. If I see a product has zero reviews - so what? If I have any issues I can just return it at no cost - not even re-box the item.

·3 years agoYou got lucky !!!!
You got a "positive" feedback.
Other have not been so fortunate when asking for feedback.

rail322012
OP3 years agoWell I guess I know not to ask anymore. Out of all my reviews, 90 percent were done with out asking. It's not like I sent 5 messages. When you're selling a laptop that you refurbished, your not selling a new item. What your selling is basically a product that you have taken apart, and put back together with new parts, and used your skills as a computer builder. There are many that don't care and sell a product that will be lucky to last a year. So reviews are very important. I look at reviews when I purchase a laptop to be fixed. There are to many things that a seller will not disclose. I have been shafted plenty of times . When I get an honest seller I appreciate it. If I didn't get the good reviews I have, I would sell a lot less items. So I think reviews are very important,

It should be noted that it is a small percentage of buyers that would harm the seller's FB for a reminder email. But it doesn't take but a small percentage of negative or neutral FB to harm the seller. There simply is no need for a seller to remind the buyer as it is a voluntary system.

·3 years agoMaybe you don't mind but believe us when we tell you that many buyers do, and that annoyed buyers have been known to leave a big, fat neg with, "Here's the feedback you begged for."
Also, sometimes a buyer is not completely happy with a transaction but they're not unhappy enough to leave a neg, so they leave no feedback at all. Pester them for feedback, and that will tip the transaction into neg territory for them.
You have enough feedback to show any potential buyer that you've been around for awhile and know the eBay ropes, and that's plenty of feedback.
In general, on-line shopping is no longer a novelty, no longer seen as some sort of personal interaction, and fewer and fewer people leave feedback as a result of that.
