What is Triggering the "Counterfeit Products" flag here.
So, this is an original paperwork lot out of a 1981 Video Poker machine. It just keeps triggering the counterfeit flag. Original title was "1981 Omega Products Double Up Poker Manual Scematics Warranty Lot".
Changing the description to basically nothing still triggered the flag. I tried "1981 Double Up Poker Paperwork Lot" as the title and it still triggered the flag.
Any ideas?

·8 months agoI don't know anything about Counterfeit Poker Machines but I'm cursed by Crapless Craps Tables.
Crapless Craps Tables are my most Vicious Hated Enemy of the Entire Universe. If I roll a 5 then next number will be a 7. If i roll a 8 the next number will be a 7. If i roll a 6 the next number will be a 7.

·8 months agoMy experience is that a single word can trigger the eBay bots.
Tried to sell an ancient coin with "tribute" in the title, and it was rejected as being counterfeit. Removed the word "tribute" and was immediately accepted. This actually happened twice.
Have no idea why the word "tribute" triggered the bots. Did not make sense.
So just carefully replacing the specific wording in a title may eliminate the issue.

·8 months agoI’m guessing the word Omega is tripping the counterfeit flag, since it’s obvious, you’re not trying to sell a watch.

·8 months agoI know it is illegal to sell a video poker machine as a USA citizen...I had one.
And maybe copyright infringements on the paperwork somewhere in the papers.
'Double Up Poker'...a poker machine I love to play in Vegas when I lived there.
So even though double up poker doesn't have the word machine I know what it is because I love to play it😆

OP8 months agoI have owned at least 20 of them over the years. They showed up at the arcade game auctions constantly. If they were going dirt cheap and I was going to have a spot on the truck I would often buy one just to get a spare monitor. I am specifically talking about the el cheapo kind you would see in small town bars and gas stations that had no physical payout mechanism. I believe Texas is the only state in which those are illegal to own.

·8 months agoI’m getting counterfeit warnings as well on authentic items, it just started happening with a wave of warnings, I’m not sure what to do

OP8 months agoYeah, mine is probably about the fact that it is "Poker Machine" related. Even though it wasn't a true restricted gambling device, and it wasn't even the item itself. It was just paperwork for a 44 year old gray market "For Amusement Only" type of video poker that had no hopper or obvious payout. However everyone knew you could just go to the bartender and he would clear the credits and pay you out.
I have a funny story about those. I once owned a Poker Machine that I converted into a regular arcade game. The funny thing was that it had a tax sticker on it. "Coin Operation License Serial Number #0001" for East St. Louis, IL for the year of 1993. During the height of the 90s crime wave in the highest crime city in America someone was first in line to pay the tax stamp for the machine they were absolutely operating illegally.

·8 months agoI wouldn't try relisting those sneakers at this point. Sneakers are, unfortunately, one of the most heavily counterfeited categories. I think @onefootflipper's issue is something to do with the actual terms in his title, where yours is likely some pimply-faced kid with a bug up his backside. His is a tech thing, while yours is a real person saying "nope". That will get you into trouble if you push it.
There's a moderately well-known YouTuber who completely lost his selling privileges for life over sneaker stuff. Sellers like yourself, who are selling legit items, are still suffering the consequences of his actions.
If you aren't already doing so, you might try Poshmark, Mercari, or one of the other clothing/shoe platforms like Depop. It's safer than risking your access to selling on this platform.

·8 months agoNew to selling here and I'm currently having the same issue. I sell shoes and recently a pair of Air Jordan 4's were rejected by Ebay's "authentication experts" and the reason given was, "Doesn't seem authentic"...that's it, that was the only reason given. And they're 100% real.
Fast forward to this morning and Ebay has removed a listing of a pair of brand new Air Jordan 1's as being "counterfeit" but I haven't even sold them yet. Should I try and re-list them? Any help is greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advance!

·8 months agoMy guess (purely a guess) is that "poker machine" got you on ebay's radar and any attempts to change and re-list it now wont work.

·8 months agoI was kind of wondering whether "poker" might be the culprit as well. Can you substitute in "card game" (Double Up Video Card Game) to see? If nothing else, it might answer your question.

OP8 months agoI will try that next time I have Poker machine parts. Although other paperwork and parts for that model are listed using Poker in the title.

·8 months agoI saw the Derringer listings. Maybe they're older and the ebay gods haven't gotten established listings on the radar. This is PURE speculation, but weirder ish happens around here.

·8 months agomaybe "Video Card Game Machine Paperwork with Schematics" or "Video Card Game Manual and Paperwork with Schematics" I'm not sure if putting "Machine" in the title is good because the only thing is manual / paperwork, diagrams, and schematics are for sale. Maybe something is copyrighted / patented and it can't be listed?? I'm not sure what the rules are for gambling products on Ebay, im curious myself.

OP8 months agoThat wouldn't be the case here. That isn't the case with any of the actual big name arcade or gambling machines from companies that actually still exist or at least have someone who owns their IP. Omega products would have been "A half dozen guys in a rental warehouse" cranking out variants of the same game for 4 years before they merged with a gambling machine distributor that had vanished off the face of the earth by the end of the 1980s. The merger seemed to be based entirely on just acquiring their inventory as the new company never produced another game again.

·8 months agoI'm more curious about that McDonnell Douglas folder pictured....:)
Makes me wonder what some of the program engineers were actually working on...lol!
(Yes, it was one of the companies I worked for back in the late 70's-80s...)
It's now Boeing and most of the buildings were torn down in Long Beach, California.

OP8 months agoI am in St. Louis and we have them here as well. That folder has one of two sources. Either that paperwork was really in that folder, which is totally possible, Omega was only an hour away from Long Beach. I find it completely probable that someone might have been moonlighting writing video poker code on the McDonnell Douglass computers back then.
Or I found that folder along with 36 issues of "The Hornet's Nest" which was the production newsletter for the F/A-18 Hornet Development team, and listed them without the folder. The Hornet's Nest Collection is still up, it will probably take years to sell, waiting for that Unicorn buyer.

·8 months agoWhat category was this to be listed under? Is poker a trigger word for the Ebay algorithm nexus?

OP8 months agoI went ahead and listed it on another website. I really wanted it here though, the vintage arcade / amusement guys shop here for the most part and not other venues.

·8 months agoThere are probably several special-interest/collector/restoration websites devoted to vintage arcade games and such where you'd no doubt find a lot of interest in those items.

·8 months agoDON'T TRY TO LIST IT HERE!
Legit or not, and there is no reason for it not to be legit, eBay gets antsy about sellers who try to list previously refused products.
Maybe etsy?

OP8 months agoIt wasn't even getting to the point it was listed, it was getting kicked back to the listing page to be edited.
In any case. Mercari has it now.

·8 months agoDo you ship internationally? If so, perhaps the items are not permitted in all the countries you ship to. The one and only time I got flagged for a counterfeit, it was for a totally legit Shiseido eyeliner with international shipping because Italy didn't allow the brand to be imported from us at that time.
