Is this advice from experience? Do you have your own website? If not please don't give advice on things you don't know about. If so please inform me on how having a website is better so I may make an informed decision.
A real web SITE either takes LOTS of monthly fees or you will need:
(2-4) web developers, a content person, helpdesk/phone support, at least one QA person, several good IT people, and a darned good lawyer if you skimp on security.
I'd guess 750k/yr just in salary would cover a modest eCommerce site once you got going, if you dont pay yourself. Ask the Venture Capitalists for say 5mil for Series A funding.
