What happens here?
What happens in this scenario? A buyer filed a remorse return (buyer pays return shipping) when the item is still being delivered to him and he didn’t receive it yet. When it got to him, he then refused the package for it to go “Return to Sender” and he doesn’t have to pay return shipping. Tracking shows it returned back to me but I still don’t have the package.
I know when a buyer refuses a package they lose MBG. But the system will still tag the package as returned in the Return Details right? And if so, the 2 day clock will start for me to issue the refund correct?

·4 months agoI have had that happen, I had free returns on the item anyway and I just refunded.
When I had this happen the buyer actually kept the item for a few days then took it to the PO and "refused" it.
I did not know you could do that

·4 months agoFrom my experience, a buyer does not have to have proof the item was returned. Was it sent back as INAD? Only sellers have to provide tracking.

·4 months agoDefinitely not true in at least the vast majority of cases. If the return tracking does not show it was shipped at all, eBay will not force a refund. It does not need to show it was delivered successfully, but a tracking number that was never used will not trigger a refund.

·4 months agoThis isn’t supposed to happen, but I trusted it does based on the multitude of reports on these boards. When this does happen, does eBay provide a courtesy reimbursement to the seller?

·4 months agoSomeone bought a GRADED hockey card from me & I sent it with tracking. I don't know how, but he put in an INAD claim on a card graded by PSA. Anyway, he said he sent it back to me (out of his own pocket) & there was no tracking. eBay gave the refund.

Have you called your shipper's customer service phone number to inquire about the package's location or status? You should probably do that first.
Then I would use the link below to report the buyer for misusing the MBG policy. When you get to the text box, Write out basically what happened the buyer requested a return while the item was still in transit, then refused the package and include any info from the shipper that might cause the package to not be returned to you without paying additional fees.

·4 months agoThe buyer basically loses their MBG, ebay's "clock" starts after the RETURN shipping label's TRACKING shows delivery. So without tracking on a return label showing that it has been delivered, there is no refund.
There are further issues that can arise out of this situation, but that's the gist of it.

OP4 months agoOkay that’s what I thought/hoped, but is it possible for the buyer to input the original tracking on the package as the return shipping label tracking since they are allowed to “provide your own return postage and upload its tracking number”?

·4 months agoNot completely sure on this but once the USPS scans a tracking number I don't think it can be used again on a different "package". So hopefully, the buyer can't use your original tracking number again.

·4 months agoUhm, I don't think so.
There are a few things a buyer in this situation could do but I really don't want to elaborate, the fact remains (and this isn't just on ebay, it's relatively universal to online orders) - A buyer who refuses a delivery gives up their right to a refund.
It still baffles me, but I guess it has to do with people in the past abusing the "return to sender" feature to avoid paying postage.
