What does the inscription on my silver cup mean?

I have a Derby S. Silver plated pitcher with the inscription "P.O.W. 1931 Mens Singles" does anyone know what type of tournament it could of come from? I thought tennis or golf but could not find any info in my research.

P.O.W. does not come up except for prisoner of war.

Player Of the Week?

(When Googling, I saw lots of Player of the week awards for different tennis clubs.)

I believe it is tennis but am not sure. Can't find anything about it online.

"Men's Singles" sounds like tennis.

P.O.W. could also mean "Prince of Wales" or it could be an acronym for a local tennis club. This looks like a trophy from a local tournament.
