What does "1 people have this in their cart" mean?
Today is the first time I have seen this on one of my listings. I chatted with Ebay and they said it was a new feature but not sure what it means (besides the obvious). Do buyers typically add items to their cart before hitting the BIN key? I had thought about lowering price and sending an offer to my one watcher but wondering if I should just wait now. Curious as to any of your experiences. Thanks.

·1 year agoIt can create urgency, but it can also lead to a so-what attitude among buyers.
I'm watching an $80 tool that has numerous watchers and people who have it in their cart. It's a big outlet seller that has multiples of every item and runs periodic sales of up to 20 percent off. I assume a fair number of the watchers and cart people know this and are just waiting for the price to drop.

How many others are watching the item.
How many others have the item in their cart.
How many have sold in the past ( ) days.

·2 years agoI'm a buyer and today is the first time I seen this too. I didn't buy over 10 pre owned things because someone else wants to buy them (at some point in time), one item said 5 other people have this in cart. I guess there is no settings on ebay where I could turn that notification off 😕

·2 years agoHere's something you may not be aware of. An increasing number of (newer) online merchants have done away with the "favorites" "watchlist" or "wishlist" type feature, and have only a shopping cart. The fact is, they are basically the same thing, a place where shoppers can "store" a bunch of things they may want to buy immediately (together with other items, in one lump sum) .... or ..... maybe buy some other day .... or ..... maybe not at all, because they don't really want it, or they find a better deal on it somewhere else, etc.
Temu is one example: they have only a shopping cart, no "favorite" or "watch" page type feature. -I have items in my Temu shopping cart that I put there MONTHS ago. Sometimes I'm looking at them and decide to delete some because I really will never buy them; others I let linger because I may want them someday and they're not hurting anything.
Now yes, eBay has both a shopping cart and a Watched Items feature. But the reason I bring up the cart-only websites is, it is highly likely that more shoppers are just using their shopping carts for watching items, even on sites like this one.
It's no skin off my neck if you want to assume all those items are "off limits" just because they're in carts, but I just thought I would let you know, it's not a sure thing that you would be robbing someone else of an item they really want to buy on payday, in fact it could just sit in their cart forever, along with dozens of other things, and they're not even thinking about it. Also bear in mind, they're not kidneys or insulin, right? 😉

·2 years agoWell I did buy one item that someone had in their cart for at least 3 days because it's a very good deal, I only put my first reply here because I'm hoping ebay will give us shoppers options for pc like set default search to stay in USA only and the option to hide the 1 people have this in their cart 🙂

·2 years agoI don't know if this is a record, but I viewed an item that 276 people had in their cart. Item was a tool by a top name brand and had been deeply discounted to just under $100.
Seller had multiples of the item, and at the time about 25 had sold. It was a good deal, but hard to say what motivated so many people to add it to their cart and not complete checkout. It was clear that the price was already at a liquidation level and was not going to be reduced further. I suppose some people were waiting for payday, or still comparison shopping, or had other reasons. But 276 is a crazy number. If eBay is trying to create buyer urgency, it didn't seem to work exactly as planned in this case

Another site tells you something is in a cart and to send an offer to help seal the deal ... since I can't see the other member's cart I have no idea if it is true or not. My thought of course is, "then buy the darn thing!"
Keep in mind venues want to get their fees when a sale happens so nothing is off the table in their pursuit of that.

·2 years agoI have 80 USED items in my cart. I can assure you that over half those items will be in my cart a year from now if I do not purchase them. I have been shopping on ebay for over 20 years and I have a good idea of these things. Ebay has a notice on every single item in my cart-80 items- that "One other person has this in their cart" I am not a fool ..there is no way that is true!! In addition I just put an item in my cart that has recently been listed by a friend who I shop with. Guess what it said as soon as I put it into my cart? "One other person has this in their cart" This is Impossible as it was just listed and no one would want it but me anyways!! The feature is a good idea to boost sales but if they are going to put this notice on every item you have in your cart... I will ignore it as it is not even true!!

Most likely it is a lead into a new eBay feature where you can send offers to those who have your items in their cart, another venue I know of has that feature. Just keep in mind most things you do like sending offers, offering discounts, using Promotions, etc simply drive the price down and ultimately your profit. If your BIN prices are the lowest you can sell at and meet your profit margin then you simple have to wait for people to buy.

·2 years agoReverb(musical instruments reselling site) has been using that for years. I always believed it was a lie to get people to buy quicker. Says something like "12 people have this in their cart and expected to sell soon." 2 weeks later it's still there. Lol.

·2 years agoI am a buyer only for the past 18 years and ALWAYS put items in my cart before proceeding to checkout in case I want more than one of YOUR items or want to do a SINGLE checkout action and pay for all items in my cart from multi sellers at once since I use ONLY PayPal and do not want multiple logins there either. It is not a new feature at least from a buyer's perspective unless "new" is measured in years. I do NOT remember the last time that i hit a BIN selection.

·2 years agoI'm sure I've seen this on eBay many times, I know that it is a common marketing technique used on many ecommerce sites.
For a OOAK listing the target is anyone coming to the listing and to get them to be concerned that they need to make a move before someone else scoops it.
For a multi-quantity listing it's to point out that other buyers are ready to buy not just look and leave.
I don't know if it's typical but I always add to cart, I usually end up adding quite a few things then go in to the cart and delete the things I don't actually want to buy (now or ever).
An "Add To Cart" button is ubiquitous online, for many sites it's the only way you can actually buy something.

·2 years agoI'm pretty sure I have NEVER seen it as a buyer, not on eBay, and I shop or at least window-shop here almost every day. Now, I have see "_______ watched in the last 24 hours" on listings. But about people having it in their cart, no.
If you can find a screenshot I'd eat crow and be very happy to see it because it would be a good sales-getter.

Here is a screenshot of one of my listings. I think I started seeing it within the last few weeks, but I cannot be sure. It seems like every week I notice something different on the listing pages lol

-I just now noticed that when I opened one of my listings I got a red bubble that said '8 people have VIEWED your listing in the past 24 hours.' -That's new to me too. I have been seeing the ones saying how many started watching in the past 24, but views, no.

Minor nit: that red message in one of my own listings reads, "1 people [sic] have this in their cart." C'mon, guys, it's not that hard to code a message using proper English.

If they were smart they would show BUYERS how many people have an item in their carts. Etsy does this, and yes once or twice it has lit a fire under my butt to go ahead and purchase a thing before it's gone.

OP2 years agoI happened to open the listing to check my revisions to see if I had dropped the price before. I had one watcher on a BIN. After clicking said listing it shows up as a red bubble.

·2 years agoHow do I 'check my revisions' - Have an active listing that we had previously lowered the price of, opened to 'revise your...' and can find nothing about checking revisions. Also nothing on the seller hub - active listing page.

If you want to check the revisions made to your listing, open the the listing from you active listings page by clicking on the title, then scroll down a bit to find the View all revisions hyperlink and click on it.

"revisions made to your listing" - Revision to me means changing something on an active listing - That's not what I want to see. I want to know older prices and when we lowered them.

I am sorry I misunderstood your question. I have never looked for the information you are seeking, so I am not sure if it is even available once a listing is ended and relisted.
You can try going to Seller Hub>Listings>Ended and use the dropdown list under All statuses to make an applicable selection and check prices. Note: The lookback period is a maximum of 90 days.

·2 years agoIf you just revised it and changed the price, I haven't found a way to see the previous prices. We started noting them in the description, but obviously not everyone will want to do that (and we've stopped, mostly, since we started using Promotions to lower prices instead of doing it manually as our inventory grew).

·2 years agoSome buyers who are planning to buy multiple items from a seller place them in their cart. They then request an invoice for the total with combined shipping.
Placing the item in their cart does not reserve the item. Someone else can buy it. If someone else buys it, the buyer who has it in their cart cannot.
Sellers do not know an item is in a buyer's cart unless they request an invoice.
The message may be new, I have never seen it. The cart is not new.

That means a buyer has an item in their cart. They are probably deciding whether or not to buy.
It isn't a new feature. I see it a lot especially when I see "Listings eligible to send offers" they either have looked at the item, watched the item or have it in their cart.
