What do people see?
I promise i'm not trying to garner views or sales.
I'm just curious.
When people to go my store, what do they see?
How does ebay decide what shows up where (first line, first page, etc.)?
When I visit my own store, it seems to show my items at random or in random order.
Is it in fact random?

·1 year agoI believe is is based off of popular items, most recently listed, and the person's (who is looking) view history.

·1 year agoI didn't look at your store, but I'll relate what I normally see when I click a sellers store from a listing.
Let's say I'm looking at a pocket knife. I click on the sellers store, and IF they have more knives for sale, several of them pop up in the page, as well as a random mix of items unrelated to the knife. If I want to see all the knives they have for sale, I need to click on the category. But for the most part when clicking on a store from a listing, it shows me about 30-50% of the item I clicked, related items in that store.
If I just go to someone's store, it's a hodgepodge of items from their store. No rhyme or reason to the display of items. I've clicked your before and have seen a mix of food/candy, stuffed toys with their weeny hanging out, and small engine parts.

·1 year agoI believe items are sorted by views
e.g. A buyer just looked at your Stihl chaps.
This item is now pulled up to #1 on the list
Could be wrong but I found this to be true for my store

·1 year agoThis people sees 309 listings for sale in a horizontal groups of 4 that can be scrolled vertically when I visit your store and if I just click on your listings they are shown in a singular vertical line up.. Don't see items in af same or similar category - like the grocery store lineups - my SWAG is the are in order of date or initial insertion date and/or renew date.
Am viewing them on a 20" PC monitor. Don't do eBay stuff on my "smarter than me" phone.
Plus we are in the Eastern Time zone while you are still sleeping. Just a bit of "off topic" useless info.- but it was "free"
Ciao!

·1 year agoIf I was choosing which seller to buy from I'd go for the one that didn't have these plush on the shelf next to candy. Realistically few sellers visit eBay storefronts. They search for what they want and skedaddle. Stores exist to organize inventory. Buyers can search what they see in store like all eBay searches, if they even make it in the door.

·1 year agoIt is not random.
You and I and the Ebay buyers and the sellers are not trusted with what the best match algorithm is. But there are some clues.
Some sellers who frequently visit their stores and sort the items by newly listed, will frequently get Best Match results which look like the latest listings.
When I am on a listing spree in a certain of my store categories, I will get best match results which are biased to items in those categories, both new listings and older listings.
Some times my Best Match results are primarily items which have had recent views or recent watchers.
There are a variety of what seem to be patterns associated with my store listings, but often no clue as to why the pattern was triggered.

·1 year agoNo, it's not random. There is a Sort option right there, everyone may have there's set differently as I said in my reply, it depends on the sort option. But the defaut is Best Match & at least in my store, BM shows the most recently listed items.
The fact that you don't have all the other rows that you see in mine, is also not random. You're supposed to set all of those up.
ETA - to be clear, you don't HAVE to set them all up, but it's all free promo space, why wouldn't you? Look at how quickly your "All Listings" show & how far down you have to scroll in my store before you get to that section.

OP1 year agoGotcha.
Thank you.
I kinda like the random return.

·1 year ago@inhawaii Your choice. I still get that same section though, it's just below all my customizable modules which I think are great cuz I can promote items for upcoming Holidays or styles that are really hot right now, etc or whatever makes sense for your business.

OP1 year agoYes, the holiday thing makes sense.
Have a great weekend.

·1 year agoI see your banner & then your items. Default sort order is Best Match. You don't have any of your store set up to populate your featured items, Holiday items, Just in or any of that. You get 4 lines I think that are customizable. Look at my store & compare it to yours & you'll see what I mean. It looks like you have never customized your store. It looks like since you don't have any of it customized beyond the Banner, it just goes to "All Listings".
On mine, when you eventually get to the "All Listings" portion, it defaults to Best Match & they are in order (for me anyway) by the most recently listed. I don't believe that part is customizable except by sort order. But you can do a lot of promotion, etc & set yours up with all the customizable features like mine, very easily!
ETA: You can set up Featured Categories, then 4 rows of promotional stuff, then any actual Promo or Discount (or there are other options for that space). Mine has all of those, the only thing I don't do is a video. I have customized everything else & I change it all about once a month to keep it fresh.
