Watchers but no Views?
Summary: In a discussion about item listings, btrbn06 expressed confusion about losing all views on their listed items, noting that only the watchers remained. luckythewinner also shared curiosity about having items with watchers but no views. They clarified that a 'heart' icon in the search results allows users to watch items without actually viewing them. This indicates that watchers can be added even if views are not recorded, resolving the confusion among participants.
I have a few items listed that have a few watchers but 0 views. How does that work? Doesn't someone have to view an item in order to add it to their watchlist?

·1 month agoNo.
There is a little 'heart' icon in the search results which allows a buyer to watch an item without viewing it.
I use it all the time.

·1 month agoAll my views on all 6 items I have listed were showing up yesterday. I even had one item that had views in the it's. Today, all the views for ALL the items are GONE. All that is left are the watchers.

·1 month agoOnly recent views are counted. I think after 30 days, they are no longer counted.

From here, I can click View Listings under your ID and watch every one of your items without actually looking at the listing.
Just click the little heart on the listing photo.

Thanks, everyone!

·1 year agoNo, they don't have to view to watch.
A user can click the little heart item right in the search results and add it to his watch list without viewing it.

·1 year agoViews and watchers to me are meaningless. Some of the views and watchers that get posted are from people that have no intent to buy any item.
Also people like me when I was a seller on eBay I would collect information on what the current prices of items were to set the selling prices of my same or very similar item(s). Every now and then I would clear out my watched items - had one item I watched for several years. I called market research as I targeted a mid point price or more for my items.with a minimum profit margin of 46.5% gross profit before taxes

I use the feature all the time. If I'm having a 30% off sale I usually restrict it to items with low views and watchers. Chances are if a listing has 50 watchers it will sell without needing a boost. Ditto promotional campaigns. Let's just be thankful they haven't added a glimpses designation signifying a listing has appeared somewhere on some page on the internet. To me that would be meaningless.

·1 year ago@nevilletetts If someone hit the little 'heart' symbol in the search results, it can register as a watch without a view (i.e., they don't open the listing, but they favourite it).

·1 year agoIt is also possible to add an item to a watch list directly from the search results without opening the listing and incurring a view.

·1 year agoViews are calculated on a 30 day basis. Watchers are a permanent count. If the potential buyer added it to their watch list three months ago they are still a watcher. To count as a view it has to have occurred within the last 30 days.
