Warning buyer Scammers
🚨 Warning to eBay Sellers! 🚨
I’ve just been scammed by a buyer on eBay. I sent the exact item (the team) described in my listing, but the buyer clearly had a script ready to claim they received something different. They even showed a cheaper version to back up their false claim.
It’s been a huge disappointment — I’ve completely lost faith in eBay’s system and decided to close my account for good. Lesson learned the hard way.
💡 My advice to other sellers:
- Take lots of photos and videos while packaging your item.
- Include a dated note in the photos saying “This is the item being sent.â€
- Keep all tracking and postage proof.
Unfortunately, there are many dishonest buyers out there who know how to exploit the system. Please protect yourself — don’t make the same mistake I did.

·10 months agoSame thing happened to me. Sold an item and buyer left negative feedback immediately claiming item received was not what she purchased, when it absolutely was. I was never contacted by seller, just a negative and she kept the item. I did ask for revision of feedback to seller; no response. I contacted ebay, and pretty much nothing. This buyer also had feedback in her lists for doing this to others. Ebay supports this buyer. So these dishonest people can damage someone's flawless feedback? And ebay okays this? hmmmmm.

·10 months ago@pickapaper I'm more curious if the buyer has tried to report that feedback reply (I would assume not since it's still there).

OP10 months agoI understand your point, but respectfully, that’s not entirely accurate.
While eBay’s system often favors buyers in “item not as described†disputes, documented evidence such as photos, videos, and written notes can make a difference — especially when escalated or when law enforcement or payment processors get involved.
Having clear proof isn’t a waste of time; it’s about protecting yourself and maintaining integrity as a seller. Just because the platform’s process can be flawed doesn’t mean we should stop being thorough or let dishonest behaviour slide unchallenged.
I simply choose not to deal with any platform that allows criminals or dishonest buyers to win.
Would you like me to make it a bit sharper and more impactful, or keep it in this balanced, respectful tone?

·10 months agoWill just reinforce what others have stated: When a buyer opens an item not as described case, or an item not received case, videos, photos, written notes do not make any difference to eBay.

·10 months agoI can see where evidence - photographs, video, etc - can make a difference. Maybe that evidence scars the buyer into doing the right thing. Maybe that evidence can be used in a civil suit.

·10 months agoThank you for announcing that you are leaving, and over some stupid reason. One out of a hundred.
No one will miss you.

·10 months agoAll a waist of time, it wouldn't prove anything.
No one would even look at it.

·10 months agoFilming yourself packaging the item only proves that you put an item in a box and taped the box. What happens after that could be anything.

·10 months agoYour advice to take photos or videos and include a note is a waste of time. No one will consider those as evidence of anything.
Yes, if a buyer claims the item is not as described, eBay believes them and expects you to handle it with a return shipping label or a refund without requiring a return. If you wish to close your account over the same procedure you’d find on any online selling platform, that sounds like an overreaction, but you can do what you wish.
