venting about cosmetics policy decision for a perfume that was unopened but removed
Can I just vent about this please? I had a brand new never opened vintage bottle of expensive perfume. The bottle has a stopper but it's tied very tight, with a knot and a crimp, so the only way to open the bottle is to cut the string. And you are NOT getting that string back on.
Mine was pulled from ebay after several months due to 'being opened.' I appealed, lost, and called, and THAT appeal was lost.
So they just yanked a product off ebay for an incorrect reason. And there are, of course, others on ebay with the same product, tied in a similar way.
I'm so angry I just took off tons of listings and in calculated fees that amounts to almost $5k of lost fees for them. FELT SO GOOD

·7 months ago@njcarpetbagger If you have not figured it out by now, eBay has a right to remove any listing. It is their platform, not yours. You do not have a right to be a seller here, and you do not have a right to sell anything you believe you should be able to sell in any category you believe it should be listed in. I have little doubt you listed that in the wrong category. Something like that should always listed in

·7 months ago$5k in fees equals over $37000 in sales.
All over 1 listing.
Brilliant.

Just curious which category you listed it in. Sometimes it is better to list vintage perfume under "collectibles" rather than "health and beauty - fragrances".
Let's face it. AI is kind of stupid sometimes and doesn't know whether your perfume has been opened or not or has a "different" type of stopper. If you listed it under collectibles, you would have probably been fine because those perfumes can be vintage, opened and used, etc.
If you ended a ton of listings because of this one instance, you are only hurting yourself. eBay doesn't care. After you cool off a bit, you might want to rethink and relist and go back to doing what you do best - selling. With AI in full force now, these types of things are bound to happen and do happen. You just have to look at it to see if there is something you can change and continue on, or you can do what you did, get mad and quit.

·7 months agoYes, frustrating. AI removed it. You think things are bad now, just wait until AI has COMPLETE control of the platform. 😶

eBay does not need a reason. From the eBay user Agreement:
"Additionally, we reserve the right to refuse, modify, or terminate all or part of our Services to anyone for any reason at our discretion."

eBay will probably not lose anything. The sales you would have gotten will simply go to a similar seller with similar items at similar prices.
eBay loses fees when a BUYER leaves. But when a seller leaves, the buyers simply choose another listing to buy from and life goes on.
