Vat registration for US sellers? (Also Japan tax ID to)
Hey guys was wondering if any US sellers have been able to find any good companies to register for VAT?
Also as a side note if they have had a good luck with registering for Japan or Australia tax number. Thanks

·1 year agoDepending on your platform, you most likely do not need to either
A) Register for VAT
B) Obtain a Tax Number for any region/country/jurisdiction.
As a seller on any of the larger aggregators, (i.e. ebay, etsy, etc....) you are not the 'party of record'...
they are responsible for collection, reporting and submission of all the appropriate taxes for each region/country.
If you do not use the services of an aggregator type platform, you would need to research the responsibilities of collection for international sales.

You don't need to do that.
You are based in the USA. You don't need to register for VAT in the EU, or in any other countries. If you sell anything to another country eBay takes care of any VAT/GST/HST/sales tax obligations that they are required to do by local law. Same with any other online marketplaces.
Sellers based in Europe (or other countries) are required to register for VAT/etc. with their own government, when they exceed certain limits that are set by their government. They have to pay VAT when they purchase inventory/material, and then they collect VAT when they sell it, then they subtract what they paid from what they collected, then they pay the government the difference (the tax on the value added).

For what purpose? You account is registered in the US, your items are located in Florida, the US does not have a VAT system.
