USPS will be closed on January 9th
Thursday, January 9th has now been declared a National Day of Observance to honor the death of Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States. Because of this, the United States Postal Service will suspend regular mail deliveries, retail services, and administrative office activity on that day.

·1 year agoThe ONE TIME holiday is out of RESPECT for Jimmy Carter's service to the USA and beyond. I honestly don't understand why some find this the wrong thing to do.
It isn't political, this has been done in the past for other Presidents too as well as life altering events like 9/11, and the death of Martin Luther King Jr.
It is a sign of respect from a grateful Nation [at least likely most of us].

·1 year agoAnd now, yet another useless hololiday that serves no other purpose than to make America even lazier.
Don't get me wrong, I actually thought Jimmy Carter was a great president and he does deserve recognition... But adding holidays to the calendar every so many years, we have way too many already.

·1 year agoIt's just this year, for his funeral, not a perpetual annual holiday.

·1 year agoUSPS will probably be closed until Wed. the 8th if your in Kansas, Missouri, IL, IN, Ohio and due east. Freezing rain-sleet with 6-14" of snow on top of it. I'm in St. Louis, MO and all the major interstates are snow packed, told everyone to stay home if possible.

·1 year agoThere have already been a few threads about this, but it doesn't hurt to bring it up again, since eBay has failed to make any official announcement about it.

·1 year agoI didn't think eBay made announcements about USPS operating hours.

·1 year agoThey announced the USPS restricted operations for President Bush's funeral, but not until the day before.
Note that the original announcement on December 4 was updated two weeks later because so many sellers' shipping metrics had been affected. Hence my skepticism regarding an eBay staff member's assurances in an earlier thread about this year's topic:
