USPS returned my Sold Item back to me, Please Advise
So I sold an item and USPS returned it back to me citing An Address problem. I checked the Address and it's Legit. I messaged the buyer and he stated he's never had a problem before.
Tracking shows I supposedly got the Item back last night in my mailbox, I'll have to check later on today.
What do I do now. Reship the Item again or Refund the Buyer and Relist my Item ?

JUST an FYI: I had a buyer that USPS would not/could not 'deliver' to a house in New Mexico. You could 'google map' the house, see the house etc. and there were houses right next to each other all the way down the street....
and yet per USPS was NOT a valid address. Only Fedex/UPS would/could deliver.
This particular customer was 'used to this issue' so he had his items shipped to his 'neighbor' for that reason.
I researched it. Was legit...completely WACKO on the USPS side of things as I could SEE the house etc. USPS sometimes is just amazing.
Depending on the $$, you should contact the buyer and have a discussion; or refund them or??

I would ship it again.

Contact the buyer and tell them in addition to sending them the photo you are showing us now and say it was returned to me. Then cancel "issue with buyers address." Refund them. Relist the item for the buyer to purchase with an updated address but also add extra for the shipping which was originally spent. The issue is on the buyers end. If they don't want it or saying the address is correct just sell it to someone else.

·5 months agoDon't add the extra shipping to the re-list. Subtract it from the refund. At least that is what I would do. You have fulfilled your obligation as a seller, ebay will not penalize you for this when they see the tracking.
You can also have them PayPal you for the re-shipping cost.

OP5 months agoI'm going to try UPS just once back to the same address on Main Street. If it's undeliverable again I'm going to just refund and block the buyer.
Thanks for the Advice.

·5 months agoGood luck if it's on Main street, that's almost entirely commercial/industrial. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. 🙂

·5 months agoBe aware the PO can make a mistake.......I would ask your PO to check the address....I've had them just scratch out the "not known" and put it back into the flow for delivery.....(no charge).

·5 months agoThis is happening to me right now, an order was not delivered yesterday because ‘no such address’
Too soon for me to have the package already returned to me, but I have been in touch with the buyer to let them know not to worry, I will get it sorted out, and double checked with buyer the address in the system is the correct address.
It is strange, because even if I had incorrectly labeled the package, I stand in line and get every package checked with a postal worker (and charged regular postal fees, I am stubborn) and if it is a ‘no such address’ I would have been informed before shipping.
So I will check with my post office Monday morning with the tracking number.
But like others good advice, communication with your buyer that you are on top of it.

·5 months agoPeel back that top label so you can see if the street address was clear. The USPS return label is covering everything above the San Diego, CA 92113-3830. All we can see is that it was on city route 10. If there was a skip from the printer or the barcode was unreadable for some reason, your label may have been the problem.
ETA: That neighborhood, Logan Heights, is a very mixed bag so it's possible that the carrier won't deliver to the specific address or that the address is no good (the building is gone). I used to live there and the carrier didn't deliver to our location.

OP5 months agoI google mapped it and came back w/ Chicano Park & Barrio Logan 😂 What the Heck
tarotfindsandmore
·5 months agoExactly! I used to work at both the Barrio Logan and Downtown library locations. I could walk to both from my K Street address. If you google those SDPL locations you'll see exactly where they are relative to where your package was supposed to go. 🙂
See, if you can get the label up though so you can google the specific street address. You may find that it 1) is no longer there, 2) has no mailbox, or 3) isn't safe to deliver to....or 4) the current occupier has notified that USPS that your recipient is not at that address and, again, there is no current forwarding order.

·5 months agoMake sure the buyer can receive USPS mail at that address. I can’t get USPS deliveries at my home—only FedEx, UPS, or DHL work for me.
For USPS mail delivery, I have to use a PO Box, so I need to know the shipping method before making a purchase.
By the way, I live only a couple of blocks from the post office.

·5 months agoYou're not obligated to do anything.
All options are open to you.
*Send it back
*Full refund
*Refund less shipping
*No refund
BTW Did the buyer confirm that you have the correct address?

·5 months agoIf the buyer confirms the address is good, reship. I sometimes investigate a bit on returned mail in case there's something that might be overlooked (like part of a street address), of course this is generally at work with our cheques being returned, we owe vendors money, so we'll invest some time in making sure it's correct next time.
I'd of course let the buyer know you're reshipping, one issue is if the time runs out and they become impatient and file an INR. I'd let gut feeling determine if I'm concerned about that.

·5 months agoWait til you get the package back so you can see why it was returned. If the label was ruined or the package got smooshed, you're going to want to either reship or file a claim with USPS. There's also the possibility that the buyer moved and his/her forwarding order just expired, in which case you'll need to have the buyer update their address with ebay and purchase a new label.
