USPS Lost part of a Shipment and Refuses to Honor Insurance
Sold five motors and shipped USPS. Box was damaged and one motor was lost. USPS insisted that the buyer had to bring in the missing item for coverage. They keep sending me letters with a laundry list of possible items we need to do, all of which were done(except showing up with the missing part). Anyone have a contact to cut thrugh this USPS **bleep**?

·3 years agoUSPS is by far the worst at paying damage claims. I've filed five damage claims and all were denied. My latest claim was a typewriter, buyer took everything to post office and they denied and stated this " Damage not caused while in USPS possession ". Well if wasn't damaged when i shipped out but arrived damaged, then whos possession was it in while traveling to destination? All i got back was " Not USPS " .

·3 years agoI agree with @dbfolks166mt .
And I think you just misunderstood what USPS wanted. They aren't asking you to bring in the missing item, they are asking for your buyer to bring everything to their local post office for a physical review of the packaging as well as what was received. This is not an unusual request.
If your buyer is willing to work with you, I'd have them send you pics of everything too. USPS is pretty good about putting notes on the packaging when there is damage.
Do get upset. I know it is frustrating, I just think you misunderstood what they need.

·3 years agoI have had to deal with a few damaged shipping claims with USPS and although it is a pain I fully understand why their policy is what it is. Unfortunately I have never found a way around NOT having the buyer take the item into their local PO where the PM will examine the item and either approve the claim or reject it. If they approve the claim there are a couple options one of which is the PO keeps the item the other is a partial refund and allowing the buyer to keep the item and use the partial refund to have it repaired.
If you cannot get assistance from the buyer to take the item in you are probably not going to win the claim. If the PO did not have this policy in place they would be susceptible to potential scamming attempt from shipping recipients claiming shipping damage the same way eBay sellers are susceptible to bogus damage claims or other NAD claims by buyers.
