·2 years agoI wonder what happens in the mean time? The items or regular mail that is in the system
and on the way to those zips? Held or returned?

·2 years agoAnything destined to those zip codes will start piling up, probably held at the last USPS facility before being sent to the local delivery unit. If it looks like the suspension of delivery to those zip is going to go on for a long time then they may start holding at the first facility (local to the shipper). If the destination address no longer exists (destroyed by flood) then eventually it will get returned.
I am monitoring a GA package I sent to Doral FL (zip 331, not on that list) to see how it goes. It was Accepted in Rochester NY Tuesday afternoon and left there early on Wednesday with a scheduled delivery on Friday. The only problem I foresee is issues with I-95, maybe in the Orlando area.

·2 years agoI have a Miami one, but I don't think it was one of my tracked ones... I dropped it off today. I forget the zip, but based on the map of where Miami is, I don't think it's on the list (isn't Miami and Doral almost the same spot in Florida?) I should go check anything that's currently in transit to see if anything is affected by either Helene or Milton. Then I can reach out to the buyer to let them know I'm following up on their package.

·2 years agoYeah Doral is just a suburb of Miami out near the airport. They had only modest winds in that area so not really any local issues.
I just checked the conditions on I-95, just the usual allotment of accidents and a couple of maintenance slowdowns.

·2 years agoNot necessarily. They often route the mail/packages to whatever nearby facility is assigned in the interim to handle mail deliveries for the destroyed post office.

·2 years agoI was referring to destroyed houses not USPS facilities.
In any even I have an update on that shipment I was following, It was received on the 8th at the Rochester Origin Facility, got a "phantom scan" on the 9th, nothing on the 10th and then early today it finally got an actual departure scan from the Rochester facility. Normally a GA package would never spend more than 24 hours in Rochester and often less than 12 hours.
It would seem that mail for Florida was being held at the origin location until Milton had passed and the conditions determined to be clear enough to reach Miami. The kind of silly part it that it's still showing delivery scheduled for "Friday before 9:00pm" which clearly is not going to happen, no way would a package leaving Rochester at 4:44am will get to Miami and be processed through two facilities AND get delivered in Doral in 16 hours (maybe for Priority Express but not for GA).
As some may have figured out, this package is destined for one of the "notorious" forwarders in Doral, I doubt delivery or pickup will happen before Tuesday given the holiday Monday.
