USPS In Transit to next facility Arriving late for 6 days
So, a buyer reported the item hasn't arrived yet even when I shipped it out. The only update I got for almost a week without update is In Transit to Next Facility, Arriving late. After that not a single update so far. Is there a way I can resolved it? Probably it because of the holidays?

·7 months agoI had that issue a few times on packages coming to me. What I do is file a missing mail claim. The few times I have done it, it seemed to dislodge it because it started moving through system again, abiet not to me.
The last time this happened a package was sent to me on Nov. 13, from CT, sat saying in route for 6 days, filed Missing Mail and it showed up in, get set, Puerto Ricco! I am in Indiana. Sat there for another 5 days, made it to FL, then to CA! Finally, after 6 weeks it showed up here.
I believe that when there are back logs at various USPO facilities, they just ship the container and everything in it to another place whether it is suppose to go there are not. Perhaps there is something in the USPO work rules about not letting a container stay at the same location over a certain period.
When I filed the missing mail request, and as I told my post office, someone should know where the heck it is other than the generic "in transit to next location" which was Puerto Rico in that case and then CA.

·7 months agoDo what @jjddmwi said. That's what I do in these cases & it's amazing how quickly they are located & moving back in the right direction.
This kind of thing does happen from time to time & there always seems to be 1 of them at the Holidays.

·7 months agoIf your USPS parcel in the USA is stuck with an “In Transit†status and has not been updating for an extended period, you may contact me for assistance. Please share your tracking number, and I will follow up professionally to help recover your parcel.

·1 year agoNever saw any additional information on what this item was, what carrier or postage class you used or where the buyer was located. However, not sure if this got resolved and how it was resolved but if you shipped USPS and the USPS tracking is not showing the package as being delivered you are still within the timeframe to open an insurance claim with USPS for the lost package.

·1 year agoYou can try but realize that USPS has mail in temporary buildings/warehouses with temporary help that are mostly interested in a pay check = timely tracking updates are on hold every where this time of year. Have had packages that only had an acceptance scan and a delivery scan. Remember delivery dates at its best in only an estimate even with express mail - the guarantee is only for a full refund of the shipping label price paid - provided it was accept no later than an exact given time of day.
Read this - from the USPS

Was told by a person at our PO & a neighbor that USPS does not consider a package lost for 2 weeks after the estimated time of arrival - exception Priority Express mail

·1 year agoI would go the USPS website and open a missing mail search case as soon as you can (I believe you can do it after 7 days from mailing.) I have had good luck with this, as the tracking usually starts to update again in a few days. If your buyer has opened up an INR case, upload tracking as well. If they just messaged you that they haven't rec'd it, let them know you opened up a missing mail search. Keep good communication going. Good luck.
This month has been horrible so far. My distribution center (Oak Creek, WI) has been just awful. I had three packages sit there for a week stating on Dec. 1st! The missing mail search got them moving again. Most packages have been sitting on avg of 3 days before a scan from them. Stressful, indeed.

·1 year agoRespond to the case. Don't ignore it.
Upload the tracking number again and maybe cut and paste the USPS tracking history.
This will buy some time and hopefully a new tracking update will pop up.
eBay should be doing something about this like they do when severe weather is hitting certain areas of the country and allowing more time for delivery.

OP1 year agoNot sure how to do that, honestly.

·1 year agoYes it's the holiday season. All you can do is respond to the "item not received" case with tracking. If what you are saying is that it has been a week in the same place Ebay will probably determined the item lost and will force a refund. Then watch the item show up days or a week later.

OP1 year agoWell, I have till this Thursday to respond to buyer. Otherwise, Ebay will step in if I don't do anything. I got 3 ways to respond. That's either: Update tracking details to the buyer, refund the buyer or send the buyer a message. I could get in touch with USPS per buyers request.

If so, it will never update on it's own. You'll have to open a help request with USPS (I have to find the thread with this solution if this happens to me, I can't remember how to do it since it doesn't happen often that tracking doesn't show delivered).

·1 year agoNot much you can do if your parcel is stuck inside of some mail container & reaches a sort center that is backlogged & the USPS doesn't touch your particular container for days or longer. Expect delays during the winter & holiday season. You can ipen up a lost parcel case with the USPS. However, that won;t necessarily yield any results for a while.
Just hang tight.

·1 year agoI recommend that you go to your P.O. with tracking and request they do the internal tracking system scan to see where the container was at before the tracking went dead. Also ask them for the district consumer affairs phone number ,Not the 1 800 . because that office can get photo shots of package's at the sorting hub . all updates on the USPS site are auto computer generated and are worthless. your buyer will be filing a INR for the full refund.

OP1 year agoThe buyer did told me if I could look into it with USPS . Going to P.O. is 1 thing, like ask them in person to do interal tracking system scan

·1 year agoIt is hard enough to get them to do that internal tracking in "normal" times - the POs are slammed now with processing new packages. - the wait time for a tete-a-tete = the 12th of never.
Best advise is to be pro active and keep your buyer up dated in a timely manner.
In my personal observation - the USPS does in fact do all they humanly can - like extending normal work hours. of personnel, etc. The always advise folks to "SHIP EARLY" - many people say that doesn't apply to me - kinda like a speed limit sign attitude

·1 year agoIf they open a item not received dispute put the tracking number in the case. Do not call eBay or ask for help.

OP1 year agoWell, the buyer said this "On Sunday, December 8th it said that the item was “in transit to next facility, arriving late†As of Friday, December 13th the status has not changed. I would like to know if you could look into it with usps for me."

·1 year agoAt least your buyer asked for help. Mine just left a negative (eBay subsequently removed it).
Did your package go through the Memphis hub, by any chance? I've had two get stuck there, although one finally made it to the buyer, but the second one still hasn't and it was mailed December 5. It's got a "currently in transit to the next facility" note on tracking.
