USPS Denies all Damage Claims
Summary: jrn1255 expressed frustration about USPS denying damage claims despite providing receipts and pictures. mam98031 noted that USPS often requires buyers to present items for inspection, which can complicate claims if buyers are uncooperative. golfingaddict and others discussed potential improvements in packaging, suggesting that inadequate packaging might contribute to damage. Another participant mentioned that claims were frequently denied after procedural changes by USPS, highlighting the difficulty of receiving compensation. The discussion involved sharing experiences and offering advice but revealed ongoing challenges in dealing with USPS claims.
USPS will not pay on damage claims. USPS has paid a partial for lost items, but 4 damaged parcels have had the claims denied even though I provided required receipts and pictures. I keep getting form letters with the same verbiage. Anyone else having the same problem?

·2 weeks agoall items broken without box damage has been denied by USPS as its a sellers job to pack appropriately. They also go through image of the item through their internal trackings.

OP2 weeks agoI am sure USPS is thorough, so why when all is provided, my claims have been denied?

·2 weeks ago · EditedFirst of all, I think most of us are smart enough to know that the USPS does not deny "all" damage claims.
"...had the claims denied even though I provided required receipts and pictures."
That doesn't surprise me, as that's not all that is required to have claim paid.

OP2 weeks agoUSPS has denied all "my" damage claims this year. They have paid a partial refund on a lost or missing.

·2 weeks agoAt one time claims were routinely paid with appropriate documentation. Shortly after dejoy took over virtually all claims for broken items were rejected. First, the buyer had to take the item and all packaging to the PO. Second, you had to have a USPS account. Even if all requirements were met the SOP letter would state that an insufficient amount of packing materials were used and the claim is rejected. USPS Insurance is a waste.

OP2 weeks agoThank You for the confirmation. Is there anyone else who is not being compensated for USPS damage?

OP2 weeks agoClose guesses. Turntable, and Receiver heaviest. Hand blender, and money clips the lighter.

·2 weeks agoWhat do you think is causing the damage? That should be your primary concern knowing that USPS is denying claims.
Can you pack better?
Should you ship with another carrier?
Are the damage claims on similar items?

OP2 weeks agoThanks for the input. I shipped with double wall and bubble wrap. Various items Hand Blender, Money Clips, Turntable, and Receiver.
I now ship UPS.

·2 weeks agoBubble wrap will not adequately protect something as heavy as a turntable or a receiver. You have to use dense foam or a well-engineered corrugated cardboard insert.

OP2 weeks agoThe Spindle was splintered and the cover cracked on the turntable. That is a definite drop on the top or crushed. The Receiver had a broken knob. Package was punctured in the area of the knob. The Vintage Radio shipped with no damage. I determined shipping Boxes through Denver is ill advised.

·2 weeks agoUSPS doesn't just require pics or receipts all the time. Many times they want to actually see the package and/or products damaged. Pics can be altered, so you may be having this problem if you can't get the buyer to cooperate and take the items to their local PO for inspection due to your insurance claim. Sadly there is no way to make a buyer comply with the request which often hurts the seller.

OP2 weeks agoBuyer brought Phonograph to the Post Office and was told to go home until the Post Master is in. The Claim was then deied when the Post Master did not contact. 30 day period lapse.

·2 weeks agoClearly there was a communication problem. The person they spoke to at the PO likely never updated the manager of that office. You should have stepped in after a couple of days of no communication and called the local Postmaster so you could work towards a resolution of the matter. The phone number are easy to get with a simple Google search. I know you likely didn't know this, but for the future you know this is what you should have done. Be proactive. Being reactive often does not turn out well as you can see here.
What happened with the other 3 packages that were damaged?
