used perfume not allowed
i have invested a lot of money in used perfume and instructed by ebay reps to list them under collectibles /shaving so i did then they all got removed i was told they are unsanitary because your finger touches they spray button{ honestly you cant make this stuff up } but what is allowed is used makeup brushes if you clean them off before selling them this is unreal so a used makeup brush that touches your face is fine but a finger touching a spray nozzle is unsanitary can someone explain this please ?

·6 months agoThe key issue here is that there's no way to properly sanitize an open bottle of perfume, or any open cosmetic product. If something gets into it, you can't see it and probably won't smell it, but it will be contaminated. Furthermore the mechanism that dispenses the perfume may be utterly saturated with bacteria /viruses/fungi and cannot be sanitized.
Makeup brushes, on the other hand, may be sanitized so even if you have a grossly unhygienic seller, the buyer has the ability to disinfect the brush.
Frankly, I wouldn't even consider buying any used cosmetics item, including brushes, as it's evident that the seller isn't familiar enough with the mechanics of disease transmission to grasp why they shouldn't be selling these items. If they are, they don't care ...which is even scarier.
I realize this may sound a little uptight but would you buy an open bottle of soy sauce or jar of peanut butter?

·6 months agoFor a good 50 years or so, I’ve been only wearing Chanel perfume buying it obviously brand new sealed in the box at the Chanel NYC store.
It is important to me, always has been + I pay retail for it 100% of the time.
Oh please! An opened bottle of my Chanel perfume I don’t think so! Ugh!
It also has wonderful memories for me. When I was younger my mother asked me what she should buy for me that I wanted and I told her Chanel perfume and from then on she always gave me Chanel perfume every birthday, Christmas + Valentine’s Day too.

·6 months agoThey consider it used cosmetics. There is the yuck factor. You can sell the empty bottles as collectables.

I read the rules. I am willing to only sell what is permitted by Ebay on Ebay. I have other things to sell than those which are prohibited, and am willing to seek other ways to sell things which Ebay does not permit me to sell here.

If they were in Other perfume collectibles and pulled down, there may have been a change.........perhaps AI. still plenty listed in that category from what I could see.........

·6 months agoI recently had a listing removed that had been up for some time. I used the collectible category, vanity perfume & shaving, perfume, commercial bottles/tins. My listing contained no perfume, so I probably should have used a different category, but I thought the bottles/tins was correct. It was a dummy perfume bottle store display. oh well

·6 months agoUsed Perfume is prohibited under the eBay Cosmetics and Perfume Policy, perfumes and colognes are classified as cosmetics. Because they are liquids that can be tampered with or contaminated, eBay does not allow them to be sold once opened, even if they are in a spray bottle.
Used Makeup Brushes have a permitted exception provided they have been thoroughly cleaned before sale. This is the only "used" item in the category allowed, likely because brushes are non-liquid tools that can be effectively sanitized, unlike the liquid contents of a perfume bottle.

·6 months agoI sold a bottle that was about $150. for a friend last year.
It was not in the box and it was a spray...no tags.
I assume my friend(s) smelled it by spraying it and didn't like the smell so they conned me into selling it.
I sold it really cheap....and it sold pretty quick.
Could the reason I got away with it is because it sold real quick?
I think I might have sold it under 'antiques....' or something else.
I did not list it as 'new' I am sure.
Anything, I was glad it sold and delivered...but what a pain wrapping it in a plastic bag in a box in a box and it going ground shipping and labeled as hazard of something on the box.

·6 months ago@12345jamesstamps It could have been that, it also could have been the category you chose. There used to be a 'workaround' that CSR's told people of listing under a different category, but I know they've been clamping down on that one lately too.
I don't really 'get it', there's a market for older perfumes & they're not nearly as problematic as some things that are allowed, but it is what it is. I agree with you, I did it fairly recently for the first time (new in package) & the shipping was such a hassle, that it took me an hour to read all the rules & fashion the special sticker that I didn't know about & therefore didn't have, that I don't ever plan to do it again. I'll use a different method, which has local pickup.

·6 months agoNot every perfume bottle has a spray...some you got to use a finger to the open end.
And then there's those who might fill bottle with something which is not perfume.
Whether what you put in the description...artificial intelligence cannot understand descriptions yet word for word...it looks for key words in the title and 'condition'(sometimes).
