Urgent: Ebay bank account payout method 3rd party trustworthy?
Summary: ancoo_9594 expressed concern about a suspicious request from eBay asking for bank login credentials for payouts. Several participants, including caldreamer and redmodelt, suggested it might be a phishing attempt and advised ensuring communication is directly through eBay's platform, not email. kensgiftshop and others highlighted that providing a routing number for account verification is a safer option. Additional options for verification like microdeposits or uploading a bank statement were also discussed. Participants advised caution and suggested verifying the account using secure, official methods.
Hi,
I'm a first time seller here on ebay, and the bank account payout option is incredibly concerning. It's asking me to log in to my bank account with my username and password, and to input a security code, all of which are unsafe to do and risk my bank security. I will not do that. But my other option is to take a 2$ added charge off of my sale to direct it to a debit card? That' s also not an acceptable option. Whatever happened to inputing a routing number and getting a direct transfer? How can I go about that?

·1 week agoIt sounds like you're getting confused with a couple different options and wording.
The option to log in to your bank goes through a third party, I believe Plaid, but it's as secure as most anything online can be.
It's not required, though, as others have noted, but the alternative is not paying $2 for payouts to a debit card. If you scroll down in the list of banks, it should offer the option to manually input your banking info, which lets you put in your routing and account numbers and they'll confirm with two microdeposits.
The $2 payout to a debit card is for Express Payouts, which are completely unnecessary unless you somehow have to have your payouts a few days earlier, but you'd still go through the process of verifying your account to do that. That's separate from the rest of the discussion.

·1 week agoI agree that sounds like phishing. However, as you are setting up your account the actual correct way, you could open a separate account from your regular banking.

·1 week ago@ancoo_9594 I would encourage you to look at the messages closer. There are other options in order to verify your account.
The $2 charge for getting a deposit is a completely different thing. It has NOTHING to do with the verification of your account and you can't pay the $2 and bypass verification either. The $2 charge is a fee for express payouts. However if you bank in a larger bank and not just a local bank, chances are that when a deposit is sent, you will have it in your account within 24 hours anyway. This however is not an option you can use until you verify your bank account.
Choose a verification method:
Instant Bank Login: Grant secure, read-only access to verify details immediately.
Microdeposits: Wait 2 to 4 business days for two small deposits, then confirm the exact amounts on eBay.
Bank Statement Upload: Upload a PDF or color image of a statement less than 3 months old showing your name and logo

·1 week agoLogging into your bank account is one way to verify it, but I never used it.
I always go for providing the routing and account number
Is there an option to select My Bank Isn't Listed?
If there is, try that.

·1 week agoI would add that even when they started onboarding sellers back in 2019/2020, the option to verify the bank account by logging into the account was an option. But I, like you and others stress, it is an OPTION, not the only way to verify the account being attached.

·1 week agoagreed, it's a spoof.......don't fool with it........ However, if you haven't done it, you do need to put your bank account # on your account........no password, etc required just the routing #. The names on your ebay account and bank account have to match exactly. John D Doe is not the same as John David Doe.......

·1 week agoThis is not how eBay works. I would guess this from an email not through eBay messages. If this is the case, not through ebay messages, then it is a spoof email. Block them on your email account and do not reply.

·1 week agoWow, that sounds crazy, I cannot believe that EBAY would ask for that. Are you sure that isn't a spam email? Scammers have software that can capture your keystrokes.
EBAY warned Sellers recently they are aware that scammers are targeting EBAY sellers with spam emails and to use caution.
When I enrolled on EBAY as a Seller I only needed to provide checking account routing number, social security# and proof of ID (driver's license).
