Upload an account statement to verify - This is 100% Illegal .. Right?
Answer is Yes this is not legal. Unless you give out your account information to someone else, the only third parties that may be able to access your statements and other banking information are law enforcement professionals and legal representatives, and only with the appropriate request for documentation.
Because its a Free Country, Anyone can ask whatever he wants, But also you do not have to accept.
AWAY FROM THIS PART - This need to be reported to the consumer affair to respond and take an action.
Hopefully we can get an answer here from a lawyer for this part.
Why Ebay ask for this Verification?
In my opinion Of course to hold your money more than usual. This is Ebay since it started from last century.
Let's see HOW? (check screenshot bellow for requirements)
Of course this requirements is done by a Genius Employee at Ebay. He get a Bonus and we get a...
- Bank account can be verified instantly - transfer money within 1-3 days
But Not for Debit card - transfer money within a few minutes (with fees) - Upload an Account Statement
But photos or screenshots cannot be accepted - So What do you want me to upload??? - Where can you find a Bank account Statement that has:
a debit card Number on it or routing numbers - Account holder Name That match name on ebay - What if my account has a business name only?
or My wife or daughter name on it - Why I have to expose other names to an unknown sitting behind a screen? - Recent transactions - What about if there is no transactions made??
My Question is - IS THIS NORMAL??? Do we need to obey Mr Ebay??
Let's pray for Mr Ebay to stay away from sellers.
Happy New Year

If it's like bank accounts.......the names must match.....Joe E Bank........does NOT match Joe Bank. Change your ebay account to match the bank/card name........ I did that and it went thru fine.
As stated..........if you want to sell here, you have to follow their rules.......

·3 years agoAddress on account needs to be a physical address and not a PO Box.
Ebay would be the last place that I would give access to my debit card ... in fact the bank account I have connected to Managed Payments doesn't even have a debit card .. hope they never ask for one.

·3 years agoIf you want to sell here, you MUST give Ebay whatever they ask. IF you are looking for sympathy here, I doubt that you will get it. Most of us here are sellers and we ALL sell successfully and have given ebay what Ebay wants. Providing ebay with your social security number is the law, enacted by Congress during the last administration. If you plan on shifting to Etsy or Mercari, guess what, you still need to provide the Soc. Security number on those sites. Verifying the bank account is to make sure that the money is deposited into the correct account. What if you gave ebay an account number that was off by 1 digit?
If you set up your account with your cat's name well now is the time to change the name to match the social security number and the bank account number. Everything must match. This is also a way of Ebay cleaning up ebay. All of those accounts made up by scammers with fake names are no longer functioning.
Comply or leave. It's that simple. Nobody here wants to hear that it's not safe to give out your social security number to ebay.
If you are a business, I know that there is a procedure for that but I don't recall it now. Perhaps someone can help you. The bottom line is that everything has to match so that when Ebay has to send out the 1099 (whether this year or next year), the IRS gets the correct information for the correct person.
If you don't give it to them, eventually, ebay will freeze your funds and it will get to a point where you can't list. After a year or so, ebay will release any funds that you earned to your state government. Then you can get from them by proving who you are. Hopefully you do not have a common name.
Closing your account. You can officially close it exactly 6 months after your last buyer gets their package. Ebay wants to make sure that that buyer does not do a chargeback. Goodbye

·2 years agoIn fairness, I sell on eBay and Mercari, and Mercari has never made me show a bank statement. Just added my social and no other issues. eBay is now asking me for a full bank statement for the second time, when I already verified it a year ago. Just seems excessive and intrusive.
