Unauthorized coupons on listing
I ran into this issue yesterday. My issue turned out to be a hacker to my listing. The coupon shown on that site which mirrored my EBAY listing but not on mine. It offered 50$ off. I changed my password and went back to that site and it showed could not be found. That site was EBAY.ca rather than Ebay. com. Thankfully I just happened to be researching my items at the time. Taught me to change passwords regularly.

OP1 year agoI apologize if I offended anybody on this thread. I merely tried to alert people to potential security issues. I did not make it up. With that said I am signing off and thanks for those who have given me encouragement and good info in the past. Best wishes to all.

This was most likely an ad that had snuck its way into the ads eBay shows on the website.
This happens on all kinds of sites all the time. You get bad ads once in a while. Especially since it led you to a completely weird site that looked to be from China. (it actually could be from anywhere)
Nothing wrong with changing passwords every so often, in fact many places actually recommend this, along with 2 factoring and other suggestions. Thought I doubt you account was actually in trouble at the time. Though your system could have been compromised if the link took you to a website that infected your browser or your computer/mobile device.

OP1 year agoI am not sure why I am on this thread defending myself. I will make a habit of changing passwords and you guys do not have to. The fact is online sites are targeted. Good Luck and Done.

·1 year agoEbay.ca is ebay CANADA, not ebay China.
Different ebay platforms routinely offer buyers discounts/coupons that EBAY covers, not the seller. Those coupons appear and disappear, there’s no way to predict when they’ll appear unless there is set ongoing promo.
While regularly updating passwords is best practice, but what you describe is not hacking but maybe just a misunderstanding of how the platform works.

·1 year agoA hacker isn't going to waist their time putting a coupon on one of your listings.
Sometimes Ebay will add a coupon that they cover.
ebay.ca is the Ebay site in Canada.

OP1 year agoYou show no listings so your opinion is **removed**.

"You show no listings so your opinion is irrelevant."
With over 3000 seller feedbacks, Inhawaii is a trs, you probably dont even know what that is. He was also just released from the hospital, after many weeks. Not that that matters to you with such rude remarks.

·1 year agoAfter all the questions you've asked over the past couple months and the good help that is freely given, I'm shocked at your rude comments today to regular volunteers.

OP1 year agoI have respected everybody and the help they have given me. I merely tried to bring up the fact that people need to pay attention to security on their accounts. I did not expect the rude comments directed to me either.

What rude comments? That a hacker wouldnt waste their time putting a coupon on one of your listings? I would agree with that too, it only makes common sense..but evidently, not to you.

OP1 year agoWhat did I say wrong? That one sells worm food or the other I tried to look at listings and got blank? They have the nerve to talk about what I sell? As I said I respect the advice I get from this site but some people I do not like their sarcasm and vitriol. If what you sell does good more power to you but don't criticize others for trying to reach a different market.
jdbelt1960
OP1 year agoI take that as an insult from someone who is selling worm food.

How is that your business what anyone sells?

OP1 year agoIf he had not criticized me...

·1 year agoNo one criticized you. We told you that what you’re describing does not make sense. I would think you’d want to understand what you actually saw instead of digging your heels in and reinforcing a false narrative in your head, but you do you.

·1 year agoIf you ship to a given country, like Canada, your listings will show there.
The Canadian buyer sees your prices in USD and in our own loonies.
However, the $50 coupon is very suspicious and you probably were right to change your password.

·1 year agoebay.ca is just the Canadian eBay site. Your listing showing up there is not the result of you being hacked, and the coupon was likely simply an eBay coupon. It sounds like you simply overreacted and misunderstood what you saw.
jdbelt1960
OP1 year agoWhen I clicked on the coupon for more info why did it direct me to China? Once I changed my password that listing was not available.
jonathanbrightlight
·1 year agoI have no idea what you clicked on. But what you described is not a hacked account.
jdbelt1960
OP1 year agoI only described what I found and I did not authorize a $50 discount. When I clicked on it the coupon was from China. After changing my password the site was no longer available. I do not ship internationally. I will make it a practice to regularly change my password which is only good IT Security practice.

OP1 year agoAlso the coupon did not show on my EBAY account listing.

·1 year agoWhat exactly did you see that led you to think that you were going to a Chinese address?
As others have said - the top level domain (TLD) for Canada is .ca and the TLD for China is .cn so which URL showed in your browser address and how did you conclude that it was going to China?
jdbelt1960
OP1 year agoDuh. It took me to a China site with Chinese writing.

·1 year agoTbf to the OP, I've seen this on one of my listings. Though it was only a 20% off coupon, but it did show it's wasn't an ebay thing and the coupon url did lead to a China url address.
Not sure how they managed to get it on there but it vanished not soon after I saw it.
