Trying to copy and save photos from my listings
Using Win11 with Edge.
When I right click on the image and want to save it to a file, it wants to save as a WEBP file rather than a jpeg or png file. I need jpeg or png to upload to my AMZ listings.
How do I do that without having to screenshot it? Screenshot saves it as a png file like I need it but I just want to save it as a file like it used to work a few years ago, rather than going through the screenshot process.

·9 months agoTime saver but this is specific to Firefox only. Hope you don't mind my using one of your listings in lieu of OP's to demo the steps @my-cottage-books-and-antiques
There might be an extension to get similar functionality from Chrome.

·9 months agofor the actual jpg file [vs the webb stuff] in firefox, right clik the image - > Inspect ... right clik the highlighted inspector window text -> copy -> Image Data-URL
you get a super-long url of the actual .jpg

·9 months agoAs stated above I use save as function and then rename the extension from webp to jpg and then save it.
It seems like a issue with Windows not offering the drop down menu to select the extension you want so you have to manually change it yourself. It works the same to change file to a GIF format.
Maybe windows did this so you make sure you want to change the format of the picture and not accidentally change it.

I don't know, man. My money would be on eBay doing us one of their favors......

·9 months agoThe normal way would be to upload pictures to Amazon the same way you uploaded pictures to ebay.
One way that does work though is use the snipping tool.

·9 months agoWhere are you starting from? I just tried it from random listing and it downloaded an image from the listing as a .jpeg. I had a whole response written up before I checked it, too.

OP9 months agoThis is what I get. I am going to try what Monica said next.

It must be something with my system, maybe. I thought I used to be able to drag and drop them into AMZ listings and also used to be able to save them directly on my PC as a jpeg after right clicking on the image.
Now I get that WEBP as the only option.
I think @gurlcat had a thread on this at one point.

·9 months agoIt may be that eBay presents different image formats depending on your browser. You can test that by trying another browser on the same system, and then the same thing on another device if that's an option.

·9 months agoUse the "snipping tool" built into Windows 11. I use it daily and it is much faster than anything else available to me. Simply hit the plus icon within the program, size around what you want copied and it saves it to the folder you want it to save it to (set this option up in the settings.) Saves it as a jpg file I believe.

OP9 months agoJust loaded Chrome and get the same WEBP file save option only.

·9 months agoquick follow up....i think amz allows uploading in the .webp format
so, consequently, you do not need to mess with changing formats......
so, just download the .webp image, and upload as a .webp file to amz...?
(i think)

OP9 months ago@monica-sells AMZ does reject the webp files, but your suggestion about opening it in paint or something else and then saving worked as well.
I just remember that I used to be able to drag and drop directly from my listings or I am just having a senior moment.......

·9 months agoeBay definitely made a change a while back regarding that, which is why I started to type up a reply stating they'd changed it, but then found it wasn't changed on my system. So I'm not sure, but I don't think it's just you.

Good ole AI
To save an image as a JPG instead of WEBP in Edge on Windows 11, right-click the image, select Save image as, change the "Save as type" to All Files, then manually type .jpg (or .jpeg) at the end of the filename before saving.
This works.

OP9 months agoI am hoping the jpeg option just starts showing up after I type it in manually a bunch, maybe???? probably wishful thinking.
Thanks to all for helping me troubleshoot my problem. Appreciate you all.
if anyone else has anything to add, I am all ears.

·9 months agoThat just renames the file extension @lakefor94 as you can check (find an online JPG checker tool) that it is still a WEBP format file, but now with a JPG extension.
Instead right-click any image, even the small preview versions then select Open image in new tab.
Then at the end of the URL for the image
-- change e.g. the s-l140.webp
-- to s-l1600.jpg
and you can save that for upload to AMZ.
This gives you the original-dimension JPG (usually 1600 pixels wide) stored on eBay, not a screen-snipped crop, nor a WEBP converted to JPG. Or for higher quality, use .png in the URL instead.

OP9 months agoThanks for the tips @yo0339 . I will give those a try tomorrow and check out the pics.

·9 months agoif you are using microsoft windows, without having to buy a photo editor, i used to just download the webp, and open it in MS Paint...
then rename it, and "Save As" a .jpg
that worked for me prior to getting a new photo editor
