transaction defect rate
Summary: bag2man reported an issue with their transaction defect rate due to an item sold twice within minutes, resulting in one transaction needing a refund. femmefan1946 and mam98031 discussed the possibility of a 'ghost listing' but acknowledged that proving it to eBay is challenging. kensgiftshop asked about the item sold, leading to bag2man clarifying that multiple sunglasses were in question. fern*wood suggested that an automatic relisting might have occurred, and stephenmorgan noted that similar listings with different item numbers might have contributed to the confusion. Another participant shared a related issue but experienced a positive resolution without intervention.
my latest transaction defect rate has to do with an item that got sold and paid for twice within 5 minutes of each other. one at 4:45 am PDT and the other at 5:00 am PDT. the earlier one got the item the other one got a refund because there was no longer an item to ship. I really like the transaction defect removed because I had nothing to do with creating this problem.

·1 month agoI see you had three pair of sunglass with the same Title that sold within a few minutes of each other. Looks like the same exact Title and Picture for each item but they all have a different Item Number.
I don't know how you were able to have the same exact three items listed at the same time. Use to be you were not able to do this. eBay would catch it and not allow the extra same listing. The title would of had to be different by at least one character, but I don't see this.

·1 month ago@devon@ebay This appears to be an example of the "ghost listings" that are being discussed

·1 month agoI sold something days ago...I peeked at the address in 'Print shipping label'...but didn't buy label and shipped it untracked days ago.
Got an email my buyer is still waiting for item even though it shipped long ago.
Bought the label in case of a defect and got defect for late shipping.
'Defect' appeared for 3 days and then disappeared magically doing nothing.
I don't get it...Aska Mentor stated I would get a few defect...but didn't.
Happy results doing nothing I guess.

·1 month agoIt looks like they got relisted twice. The two that sold for the buy it now price have different item numbers and were listed about 4 minutes apart.
I know if I'm asked by a buyer to cancel a sale, when I complete the cancellation/refund there is usually a small box which offers to relist the item for free. If it was checked, then it may have automatically relisted and then you might have also manually relisted if you didn't see that.

·1 month agoSounds like a "ghost listing" since once sold, the second transaction should not be possible.
However, all you will get here is advice, since eBay employees do not monitor the Boards. That's done by a third partycompany.

·1 month agoThe problem with that is it is likely pilot error. I know that Ghost Listings have long been talked about on the threads, but getting the actual proof over to Ebay has presented a challenge and without it, they can't chase it down to see what caused the issue. Complete info is hard to come by, even for the sellers.
