Today is my lucky day!
A seller just made me an offer on a item I was watching.
Instead of $17.04 now just $16.01!
Should I buy a few extras?
The more I buy, the more I save!

·1 year agoSounds like the seller has the auto offer set to 6%. (maybe manual since you're watching it)
If they had an additional 4% to make it 10%, would that of made a difference?
Even 10% off of a cheap item looks miniscule to most. I think many sellers don't realize how tiny the offer ends up being when they select a percentage off offer.

·1 year ago$16 is probably the 'yikes' amount for that item to that seller, like the minimum they could take for it to be at all worthwhile considering their investment and other costs. Nothing wrong with knowing your bottom line, but what makes them stupid is having the (original) listed price be so little over what they'll accept, so their offered discount looks like a joke.
I believe this is why suggested ad rates skyrocket on listings that have had a seller-sent offer and failed to get any takers. It is hinting that the listing will be throttled in visibility (a hint you don't even get if you don't use promotion, but the throttling would occur nonetheless), because just like late shipping or failing to resolve buyer problems, dopey unprofessional pricing practices turn buyers away from eBay, so once the algorithm senses such dopiness, the listing gets shuffled downward, so as to p!ss off fewer buyers.

·1 year agoI've got you beat...I once received an offer from a seller, for a book that I was looking at; the offer was 8 cents off the price. And I still didn't buy it.

·1 year agoMy pet peeve is these darn seller that have Make an Offer on their listings, that wouldn't even take a 16.01 offer on an item at 17.04.
