Time to put a fork in me
I am beyond upset at the moment. I think I am done with eBay for good now.
Got a neutral today because I shipped something to someone because it was lost by USPS. I handled it quite well when they told me. Refunded their money right away and sent replacement next day at no cost to them. I am beyond words at the moment.
Some people you can never please it seems.

OP2 years agoI had to put this adendum. I read this buyers other feedback to sellers. I am glad I did not just refund their money.
They gave a NEGATIVE review to a seller since they gave them a refund and not resent the item.
I am calmer now. Need to get ready for next month May 2nd is 25 years on eBay for me!

·2 years agoi received a neutarl a while back also, lost one of my 5 retraction requestions to get iot change but fell on deaf ears. My buyer biought a part from another seller that never arrived and bought the replacement from me. they even said my sale was good in the nuetral but wont do business with ebay becuause of someone elses sale. I got stuck with someone elses neutral although they deserved a neg.

When you see the item price on the feedback page that's just the APIECE price of the item they bought; it doesn't say how many they bought.
I certainly don't understand why anyone finds if worthwhile to photograph and list one-offs for less than $5, but if you have bulk quantities that a lot of buyers will likely buy multiples of, it makes good business sense.

OP2 years agoMost of what I sell are multiples of the same item. Do have some that are not the main two things I sell also. I save old listings and just change specifics to save me time.

You have built a nice little business over the years. I'm hoping you are just venting as it would be a real shame that you would give such power to one buyer. You did handle it very well. That was great customer service. Some people however just can't be happy no matter what. Don't let their character flaw become yours by making you quit. ðŸ˜

And to add to this good advice, @ellenshideout,... there's always, "What other people think of you is none of your business."

·2 years agoCould not have said it better! Some people were born on the wrong side of the bed and go thru life spreading sad gray fairy dust - no need to let them bring you down, when you know you did the right thing - did your best as the OP states - just smile and hope one day THEIR day gets better.

·2 years agoWelcome to post-Covid America, everyone us crazy, and confrontational. I've ranted much about ebay but admit that they are outgunned by the sheer volume of nonsense out there. I worry about all businesses.
The thing with ebay though is that they are spending all their time and resources to satisfy this crazy customer at the expense of sane sellers; this can't last for long. They need to draw the line in the sand for tougher rules, there is still lots of grey, particularly for buyer benefit (ebay doesn't lose if you, the seller, does).
There is another platform that is flat out saying buyers can return for any reason. I don't like that, but it's nice and consistent. It seems to be shared risk, not all on seller side, so we'll see how that goes. There are some others trying new ideas to thwart this insanity (ebay took the Amazon approach that the customer is always right, but Amazon is big and only risking themselves, not the sellers).
eBay is a data collection machine, I'd love to see decline numbers of sellers. My volume went to zero but then I started listing some. Nothing really moves and the risk is too high that anything will yield a Not as Described AND charge me for that return. I've been selling and even GIVING locally. Furthermore, eBay is going to start generating 1099, since government isn't satisfied with sales tax and wants income tax on capital losses! I agree with it if you're a vendor of cell cases from China, but someone selling $200 hiking boots for $20 should not be taxed! Far too much risk with nearly zero benefit.

·2 years agoI wouldn't worry about that neutral , Because I have 39 of them , left by some real nutty buyers from over the years of selling.

·2 years agoAt the risk of piling on - you have four other Neutrals AND three Negs in just the past year so I dont see why this particular Neutral made such an impact on you. I would say that it sounds like the mildest complaint of the lot.
Others have given good advice on how you might salvage the bad feedback by asking the buyer to revise it (AFTER you have addressed their complaint). It is probably too late for the older complaints but it is something you may want to keep in mind going forward.

OP2 years agoI have worked hard and all the old neutrals were when I was learning. Nothing for those reasons in 6 1/2 months. And 4 of those 5 were last summer.
Latest neutrals are both for USPS issues. One today was for one totally lost other that it took USPS so long to deliver. Which drive me nuts since sellers have no control over how long USPS takes to deliver after we sellers ship it.

·2 years agoThey'll be cool when they get their free replacement. Wait for that to arrive and reach out to tell them you made the situation right and would they be willing to revise their neutral FB. Most will do it, and lots of people leave neutrals because they don't think they're going to get anything from you, so this is their last action in the transaction.
If you make things right and fix their issue, they should be willing to revise. I've even had some that contacted me first to ask if they could revise because they didn't expect me to listen to their concerns.

OP2 years agoThe replacement was sent a while ago and the transaction is from 2/28 so thought everything was ok. We did alot of talking back and forth when the 1st package got lost I told them I was sorry it had not been delivered and told them a replacement would be going out. I now have the insurance money. I requested a revision and wrote a nicely worded response. But I am not holding my breath. This certain banknote is def my bread and butter. Make decent money on any purchase. Just had one person buy 50 and made almost $55 net profit on that one alone.

·2 years agoI personally would not be able to handle the stress of item selling for $2.35 having that much power over my emotions. My time is more valuable and my wellbeing is important than that.

·2 years agoSome buyers are never happy.
Are you serious "I think I am done with eBay"...I read the neutral feedback as well as all possible future sellers will see the feedback for something under 3 bucks.
Neutral feedbacks are meaningless to a seller...but can hurt a buyer since everyone can read them.
I did the exact same thing you did and never heard from the buyer ever again. I blocked the buyer of course.
My buyer got upset because I refunded them. And then I sent another out without telling the buyer. And still no response.
Would I give up from selling because of a 2 bucks purchase? As you can see I am still here. Yelp..my buyer made a 2 dollar purchase stating never received...got a refund...sent another one...and I got ghosted...and I got a negative feedback!

·2 years agoJEEZ, you're a TRS with 99.6% feedback, and 4200 sales under your belt! PLEASE have a bubble bath, some cocoa, pour a little something in it if need be. I don't know you but I know someone having a bad day beyond a meaningless neutral when I see one. Girl you're gonna feel better tomorrow, I promise.
Wait a minute
Hang on
Was this a parody post???

·2 years agoIf she were a top rated plus seller, eBay would have removed that neutral.
mam98031
·2 years agoThat is not true.
The OP is TRS.
FB removal for any reason is NOT a perk of TRS+. There is ONLY one perk of TRS+ and that is the 10% discount on the FVF.

·2 years agoGreat reply to that neutral.
I's just a neutral. Don't let it bother you.
I'll tell you what, I'll trade you for one of MY neutrals?
Neutral: Thank you
Neutral: It was a gift and arrived early

·2 years ago"WOW I love this, it's even prettier than the pictures! And it arrived so fast the seller must have flying reindeer. She is also the friendliest and most helpful seller I have ever done business with. I'll definitely be back to buy again. Don't hesitate to buy from Gurlcat, she's the best!"
-That's the one I want, because people are far more likely to read neutrals than positives. Heck even a negative, better yet. 🤣
gurlcat
·2 years agoA neutral has no effect on your score, and anyone reading their comment (and your good informative reply) can see this transaction doesn't put the slightest risk to your reputation whatsoever.
Tons of buyers don't think of neutral feedback as bad, I mean the word NEUTRAL means neither bad nor good. As to why they think they have to leave any feedback at all, who knows, but this one was definitely not expressing a complaint. Who says you didn't please them?
If they were even slightly irritated it might be because they had to wait a lot longer than they expected to receiver their item, but they're not accusing you of waiting too long to act or anything (which some buyers WOULD).
This isn't even a straw, so why let it break the camel's back???

Is everyone OK? That had to be scary.

·2 years agoOnce they get the replacement it will be fine. Just keep tabs on the package and reach out when they've had it for a few days.
It will be OK, a neutral isn't the end of the world (says a person who would get very upset about one that wasn't actually my fault).
