This just seems so petty.
It's like they keep looking for ways they can penalize you and charge you more fee's. I guess working hard to keep the account Top Rated doesn't mean much anymore. In most cases I send a refund and don't even ask for the item to be shipped back to us.

·8 months ago13 returns....did you do them personally or did eBay have to step in?
Did you appeal to any returns?
If you got an open claim(13) and refunded everyone on your own without you or a buyer escalating the refund then I don't think this was the problem...returns.

OP8 months agoI appreciate everybody's input but it's not like we are trying to deceive or hide anything. The following statement is posted on all of the listings.
We have purchased several tractor trailer loads from a retired industrial dealer of 41 years. Everything from breakers, motors, controllers and fuses to testing equipment and power supplies. We are not experts so please look at the photos and ask questions. We welcome your input.
Most of these items are pretty old. Anywhere from a view years to several decades. So out of 1058 completed transactions in 2025 13 had issues. Of the 13 only 5 of those were listed as not working or defective. If all 13 were defects then sure maybe. In six years the account has only received negative feedback once. I honestly believe that over 99% of the buyers completely understand what they are looking at. They are considering buying an item that is old and dusty but obviously the overwhelming majority of the time still works fine. There is no way that I'm going to list over 3000 items as for parts or not working when almost all of them end up working fine. I guess we will just have to agree to disagree on this one.

·8 months agoIf you are not willing to test your items, why should customers be willing to give you high service metrics?
What goes around comes around.
P.S. The plural of fee is "fees" not "fee's".

·8 months agoThat tells a buyer nothing about the item, you need to give some kind of a description.

·8 months agoI don't understand how you have been able to keep your Top Rated Status when you have too many inaccurate descriptions resulting in too many returns, I would look into your descriptions & fix them as soon as possible to avoid this issue moving forward!

Do you really think you should be able to list items with inaccurate descriptions and buyers are being petty if they don't accept them?
Or do you really think eBay is being petty because you have multiple inaccurate descriptions resulting in 13 INAD claims, which in turn reflects poorly on you as a seller. Sending a refund without the return of the item doesn't make a happy buyer; it only reimburses them for an item they purchased but didn't receive as described.

·8 months ago@madssurplus It is much more efficient to head off INAD problems by accurately listing.
Stop sending out defective merchandise. You can list it as used and put in the listing that the item has been in storage "for years" and that it is "untested," but that does not absolve you from the responsibility to send your buyer a working item. eBay's definition of "used" stipulates that the product works! This means you need to test it, and if you are not going to do that, then don't list it as used. You need to list untested items for parts or repair, otherwise you will continue to set yourself up for even more INAD returns. That is what is hurting you, and it isn't eBay's fault. It's yours.
A lot of that type of stuff goes bad after setting in who knows what kind of environment for who knows how long. I'll pick up stuff like that because people buy it - but I either test it or I list it for parts or repair. You'll make more money by simply listing it correctly.

·8 months agoeBay doesn’t want sellers who have high rates of claims that the item the buyer received doesn’t match what they expected. That’s a negative experience for the buyer and a refund doesn’t fix that.

You're mad at ebay because you have too many returns?
Makes perfect sense.
