The sky must be falling
It’s 11:00 am and I’ve had zero sales. I don’t remember the last time I have had zero sales so late into the day.
What did I do to **bleep** the eBay gods?

·1 year agoHey, @theteamsetguy Look at all of those sales you got today! Looks like James's magic cheerleader switch worked! ðŸ‘

·1 year agoI miss the days of organic sales. I so enjoyed organic sells.
All my sales have been the paid for sponsored advertised sale.
I can't remember the last time I had a pure enjoyable organic sale.

·1 year agoI used to own a chain of B&M video stores, and there were a few times when we had no sales for the first part of the day...
...it happens to all businesses so i don't know why people continue to think it's so unusual, or that somehow ebay is controlling something...?
zamo-zuan
·1 year agoMight have something to do with the fact that "controlling something" is literally how advertising based search algorithms are designed from the ground up? lol

·1 year agoOver halfway through the eBay day and still an "externa find day" with slight change to 80%/20% with no inclination to open the wallet.

·1 year agoI've been selling for 25 years, same 4 evenings a week and same 1 1/2 hour time frame with most items auction style. Almost always 20-40 watchers with a lot of loyal followers in a little niche market. Up until 1 1/2 years ago most items would do about or better then I expected with a very nice bump in the last 5 minutes on most items. 1 1/2 years ago all at once 2 days a week prices are better then expected and then 2 days record low prices and no bump at the end. I took a few week break to see if I am doing something wrong and then a month later similar items that fell flat in price bring record high prices for me and other items that brought great money a month earlier fall flat. Always 1 or 2 evenings a week, usually different evenings and its like everyone went on vacation when my auctions end. For a year and 1/2 the only thing consistent on Ebay for me is it has become inconstant for no rhyme or reason. I have just learned to live with "when you're hot you're hot and when you're not you're not". Enjoy it when things do great, accept it when they don't.

·1 year agoWas that a Jerry Reed quote?
roccotacodad54
·1 year agoYes Jerry Reed lyrics about a dice game (I think, maybe). Anyway I remember it played on the radio pretty often at one time....................

·1 year agoSales are back to normal for me.
Maybe a maintenance 24 hour thing or a 'hiccup' thing.
But sales have returned.

·1 year agoToday my "external" views out number my "organic" views.
85.7% to 14.3%.
Could be something eBay related.
Could be the standard inhawaii response reasonðŸ˜

·1 year agoAs leader of the ebay cheerleading squad, I will make a few calls and see if I can get your switch turned back on. 😉
theteamsetguy
OP1 year ago@inhawaii ,
Thanks for calling. You da man! Whoever you called was able to turn the spigot back on for me. Sales are now about half of my average day.
inhawaii
·1 year agoYou're welcome.
Your switch is turned back on. 😉

·1 year agoThat's what I was talkin' about right there. It is all about who you know.

OP1 year ago@chapeau-noir ,
That looks like the squirrel that just visited my bird feeder.

·1 year agoOn a serious note, when I experience slow sales, contacting/tagging @inhawaii has helped tremendously over the years. Not many of us cheerleaders have the pull he possesses.
Maybe a taste of that magic be worked for the OP.

·1 year agoNo sales this morning for me = sleeping until 11 a.m. I take it when I can, which is rare thankfully.
Here's hoping your sales improve! Good luck to you and enjoy your day.

·1 year agoI would expect more with the warm weather starting to hit parts of the country.
People may be outside enjoying the weather.
Sky is not falling.
12345jamesstamps
·1 year agoWe say the same thing when it is bad weather all over the USA...in regards to no or little sales.
The funny part...the 'sky is falling'...LOL
I had to say that for a laugh oof the day.
mustang707
·1 year ago"People may be outside enjoying the weather. " Not where I live. It is in the 30's with wind that makes the wind chill temp about 24 degrees. So at least part of the country (as you stated) should be inside at their computers or phones making purchases on ebay!
chevymontecarlo88
·1 year agoWell i can't control the weather but if you ask @inhawaii , maybe he can put a good word in. He is making it happen today. 😀
theteamsetguy
OP1 year ago@chevymontecarlo88 ,
James in Hawaii is probably about to get up.
lux.ra_14
·1 year agoBut consumer confidence is. To a 12-year low.
Could affect eBay sales, even if the sky stays put.
chevymontecarlo88
·1 year agoOh, come on. Don't be a party pooper. The sky is fine, i just came in and it was awesome. No one is saying everything is perfect, was just giving the OP a reason why it could be slow.
Apparently i missed something when i was out looking at the sky. Someone took down my music video. 😓
lux.ra_14
·1 year agoI could be wrong, but the weather might not be as important as tanking consumer confidence to the average eBay seller.
Most overworked talking point of 2024: The price of eggs.
The contender so far in 2025: Saying the sky isn't falling to counter any bad economic indicator of the new Golden Age.
chevymontecarlo88
·1 year agoWhat do you sell @lux.ra_14 ? (category)
What do you think is the cause of your slow/low sales?
chapeau-noir
·1 year agoYeah, and from some of the same people who were crying that the sky was falling for the previous four years. 😖
lakefor94
·1 year agoHas not stopped. It could be an 4 to 10 year course. Major league project, to say the least.
chapeau-noir
·1 year agoWe'll call that the "twelve egg omelet".
chevymontecarlo88
·1 year agoTo be fair, that statement needs context. No one was crying over the last four years because the sky was falling. They were crying 😂 because a potato 🥔 was falling up the stairs.
campanaelia
·1 year agoYou're right, nobody was crying the last four years because the sky wasn't falling. And only MAGA were crying when Biden tripped.
To be fair Trump also tripped getting into Marine One chopper and used the short stairs on air force 1, which presidents don't normally do, but MAGA ripped Biden for doing the same.
Don't forget Trump is approaching 80 now so we will probably witness more falls from him in the next 4 years. People tripping and falling is a common occurrence so I wouldn't normally make it an issue but MAGA set the precedent.
BTW Bidens been gone for over 2 mos., why do you keep dwelling on him?
I guess you're trying to be funny but you need new material.
Maybe we should be more concerned about nat'l security issues instead of letting Trump downplay that.

I noticed that as well... yet this quarter has been amazing for me (knock wood).
I sell old things -- old books, old records, old porcelain -- that are no longer manufactured.
Obviously the market for such items is small, yet there is demand.
And eBay seems to be the place where people go to find them.
As for consumer confidence... my understanding (correct me if I'm mistaken) is that those queried for such surveys are asked about purchases like homes, cars, major appliances... NOT the sort of random or one of a kind stuff you will find on eBay.
The longer I sell on this platform, the more I am convinced that eBay is mostly insulated from the economic vicissitudes we read about ion the newspaper. regards
lux.ra_14
·1 year agoI didn't know the answer, but the link below is instructive. It has the actual questions, one of which is about purchases, and the others are of the better/worse and right/wrong track variety.
Consumer Confidence

·1 year agoSame with me...no sales today and one yesterday.
I had my best sales last week for the entire year.
So having nothing is so strange.
I will just enjoy the great weather outside I guess.
It's like doing 'time away ' but not doing it.
I think it has to do with eBay algorithms.
Well, if I made no money so did eNay...LOL
