The Old Days
I've been buying and selling on Ebay since the beginning it used to fun .
The little guy has been squeezed out
ya ya I know there are other avenues for buying and selling things so save your breath.
My head is spinning with all the new rules regulations not to mention taxes etc.
It's been fun but I buy and sell less and less each month.
The big boys have taken it over and I refuse to make them richer .

·1 year agoHello, I am so sorry that things have become so bad for you. I am being forced to relocate from a home I have lived in for 1/2 my life. 42 years in this location and I just can't afford the Bay Area any longer. As I type, I will be up until at least 4 in the morning packing up. Tackling all my eBay inventory is the most difficult and it seems like the boxes will never end. But when they do, then comes the taking down of shelves and cabinets and desks and patching all the holes making the place presentable from the next person. Rent will be jacked up wildly when I leave, as I know the lords of the land can't wait for my departure, but even as I l get ready to leave behind so many memories, I do look forward to the new discoveries and experiences. So my advice is to just hang in there, like that little kitty poster from years ago.

·1 year agoSelling used to be fun when you wondered WHEN your items will sell compared to IF they will sell or even be seen. I do better on Marketplace, but that is still sporadic. At the end of April, I went 11 straight days without a sale. In the last 2 weeks, I had 3 sales for $22. Each year seems to just get worse for selling online. I have not seen an improvement for 3 1/2 years. Only rare single days. After the 11 day streak, I sold $137 in 1 day. It was nice but did not make up for the days of $0.00. Good luck to all. 🙂

·1 year agoI'm a "little guy" seller and I'm doing just fine. My head is not spinning. Sure there have been changes but what hasn't changed in the last 20 years?

·1 year agoPersonally... it's still fun.... yes, there are more challenges but isn't that what life is about? Where else can you do what you've been doing for the past twenty years? Attitude is everything.... sometimes it sucks.... so what do you do? If you hate it so much it defeats the purpose and maybe you should try something else... I've had months with $20 in sales... it's been awhile since that happened and it made no sense whatsoever... Hopefully you have I have interests outside of eBay (not just selling stuff).... everyone should....
and personally, I am really tired of the general snarkiness that seems to permeate these boards....

If it didn't you would have 3 or 4 black and white TV channels to watch news, cartoons, Soupy Sales, Abott and Costello, I Love Lucy and The Lone Ranger. Also the 24" screen tube type TV had rabbit ears, sometimes with aluminum foil wrapped around the antennas for better reception on windy/rainy days (the foil was repurposed from being the covering to roast a turkey.
As a '44 model I was there.

·1 year agoAt this point, selling is generally as fun as the items you're selling. I still really enjoy it, but definitely not because of eBay. I would venture to say that the platform itself is the least fun aspect of it. Many of us endure the stupidity and sloppiness of the site because we have fun sourcing, researching, selling, interacting with customers, and even listing. Yes, I know that will get eye rolls from some, but I do enjoy pulling out items that I've tucked away months, or years, ago and rediscovering them. I'm not a fast flipper so it's kind of like Christmas for me.

·1 year agoOn a personal level, life was much simpler back then, too...selling was simple..I just listed and sold, received payment through the mail and shipped. 25 years later I have mortgages, accountants, lawyers, managing trust and elderly parents, adult children, paying for college, wedding, co-signing for loan guarantees....yes, everything evolves and becomes more complicated....eBay is no different

·1 year agoYour frustrations are felt by many and sometimes taking a break helps. Selling has become more challenging, but I still think buying can be lucrative and fun. There are many places/platforms that one could use but I would not limit yourself or exclude eBay because of the changes. IMHO
I would suggest keeping your eBay listings until you set up and try other platforms. Hopefully you find the right mix and can start having fun again.

·1 year agoIt is one thing to respond to someone that you have some dialogue/relationship (or contacts you) with but to slam a stranger who is frustrated and just venting is too easy and weak. You know better @chapeau-noir

·1 year agoIf it was followed up with constructive feedback, I think it could be helpful. By itself it was a throw away joke at the expense of another, minutes after the thread was started. Just hold off on ridiculing others (those who are not regulars here) until the thread has some time to develop. (flush out all of the details)
