The New Transaction Earning report - what they said and what they mean ...
Just saw this pop up on my Seller Hub orders tile ... so I checked it out ... I "get" what they are trying to do but it's not really an accurate "earnings" amount since there are two numbers missing: 1) Item cost to the Seller and 2) label cost ... maybe they update this once the label is printed ... will check that out once I print a label. This page at least should state "Prior to your shipping label cost and item cost that the Seller paid" ...

·3 years agoI guess it's a good beginning for anyone that doesn't track their own monthly P&L. Needs some tweaking but it's a start. It gives a snapshot for the seller, who should know the cost of the item, so they can fix pricing on it.

A sellers sales numbers have been totally confuzzled since the time that eBay stopped showing the total for shipping(followed by the tax charged by eBay) as separate amounts(totals). The total sale eBay shows is for eBay use only. What they base their revenue on. I do not purchase my postage/shipping via eBay and never will but is mostly(whatever is a parcel service vs letter) clearly stated directly from Shippo. Postage and tax are not revenue. Maybe if a sellers makes a couple of "Schmekels" in the process. If they do that it just goes towards covering fees. But it is not a major windfall.
As for the eBay provided breakdown of (seller) profit, showing tax/shipping collected as income for the sellers does little to help to unconfuse the final numbers. (From the display you noted.) Just viewed several and best technical terms I can come up with are ewwwww and dogs breakfast!!! Thanks for nothing?

From a ca perspective it only shows the amount the seller charged for shipping not the actual shipping. Maybe it shows differently if postage is purchased from eBay. Not everyone goes that route. Would be interesting to know how it covers postage discounts/handling charges or if the system is smart enough to do so?

·3 years agoIt's a nice idea, but it needs work such as the Seller's cost as has been stated (meaning Costs of Goods Sold), and we cannot print that information to attach to our sales orders. I would suggest that it is a tool for the casual seller, or as a way to check our accounting software against eBay's records of our sales.

·3 years agoyep, it will deduct the actual shipping cost, once you print the label............how could you expect that to show until you buy/print the label?
Likewise..........ebay doesn't show item cost because they don't know it.........and I, for one, am not going to give up that information to them.........

OP3 years ago@dhbookds I am not complaining about what they did, just how they have labeled it ... it's not accurate and implies one has made more than what one actually will make ...
I'm sure eventually the Listing tool will have a "Seller's cost" field and Sellers will have the option to fill in their costs so this earning thing is more comprehensive ...

·3 years agoYup, that was my first thought, that pie chart causes a lot of confusion amonsgst novice sellers & we've been seeing a lot more posts about it lately. I get what they're trying to do, but they regularly have sellers believing that their selling costs are 30% or more.

·3 years agoI may be wrong (it's been known to happen) but IIRC there was a place in the inventory mgt on SMPro where you could input your item cost?
But then I may have dreamt that as well.

IDK. Never liked the layout of SMP, so didn't use even the basic.
With the pie chart, it's not just the lack of item cost, which of course, they don't know, but also that shipping labels are considered part of selling costs, really driving up the percentage. Taxes & Govt Fees are also included in the total. Mine shows 35% which is a really skewed version of reality.
